them to the hospital. >> first responders there taking care of it. as soon as we get more information, we will bring that information to you. now to our other breaking story. police now investigating a stabbing at spring valley high school. we're told a high school stabbed a fellow 15-year-old student during a fight inside the school. the victim suffered wounds to the head but is expected to survive. and now to a fight between the mall easter bunny and a parent has gone viral. it's one of the most watched videos on abc 7 and on our news app and facebook page. >> in just the past few minutes, we've learned that the rabbit, the man dressed up as a rabbit, and the father are both being charged. eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is at the newport center mall in jersey city with what caused this rabbit ruckus. >> more on the charges you just mentioned, the rabbit is 22

they're both being charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. inside this mall, hair pulling, fists flying. at one point this easter bunny had backup, his coworkers. one woman who works in a store inside this mall, she tells me at one point the kids who saw all this were so scared and crying, she corralled some of them inside her shop. another woman said she just stopped and stared and prayed no one had a weapon. >> i've never seen a bunny fighting a man. >> reporter: that's right, this bunny, the white costume character caught on cell phone video acting in a very uneaster-like manner, fighting in the middle of newport center mall. shannon was there, heard screams and couldn't believe what she saw next. >> i look over and literally i just see a man in the bunny suit, the top half of it was off, the mask was off but everything else was on fighting -- i'm assuming it was

i don't really know who it was. >> reporter: they say this bizarre brawl happened sunday evening. officials say according to this floppy eared seemingly fearless fellow, a 22-year-old, he says a father of a 1-year-old little girl verbally and physically attacked him. the child, the rabbit insists, slipped from the chair after she had her picture taken. that's when everyone scrambled. >> i just saw punches being thrown, people were being thrown to the ground, and then they removed him and he came back, took off his gloves, like the gloves were gone. and then tried to fight again. >> reporter: today mall security was heightened alert. inside, same display, different more upbeat bunny. we're told this area is not run by the mall, rather is subcontracted out. a mall spokesperson tells eyewitness news this bunny will now play the role going forward. this one is now out of a gig.

[ laughter ] >> reporter: it not surprisingly has gone viral. >> i thought it was crazy, hilarious. and also the kids must be like terrified of the bunny now after all that stuff happened. >> now tonight the programs which operates this easter bunny photo area in the mall says it's working with jersey city police, charles, 22, the easter bunny. both men charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct. for now we're live in jersey city, kemberly richardson, channel 7 eyewitness news. so many unanswered questions over the death of an off duty police officer found in a car with a gunshot wound in new jersey. newscopter7 was over the scene where his body was found near a movie theater in sayreville.

is on the scene with more information. >> that officer's body was found in his personal vehicle early this morning. here we are hours later. the prosecutor's office has not released much information on exactly what happened here. he did speak to the media earlier this morning. >> reporter: newscopter7 was over the scene, the parking lot of a long closed movie theater that sits between routes 9 and 35 in sayreville. investigators from the middlesex county prosecutor's office and the sayreville police were on the sayreville police were on the scene. the report came in at 7:15 of a body in a car. the body was a sayreville police officer found dead in his car. prosecutor andrew carey. >> the police responded. at this time we've identified there's a victim of one male police officer with sayreville police department who has died from gunshot wounds. >> reporter: police have not released the identity of the officer, nor have they said anything about the possible circumstances surrounding his death.

will not identify the officer as family members may still be receiving word of this tragedy. police also have not said that they're looking for suspects or motives at this time, not ready yet to release its conclusions. >> at this point middlesex county prosecutor's office will be taking lead of the investigation along with sayreville police department and we'll hopefully have more for you sometime soon. >> so there's so much that we still do not know as far as what happened out here. we don't know if there was anyone else involved. we do know that that officer was off duty at the time. we're still awaiting information from the middlesex county prosecutor's office. live here in sayreville, toni yates, channel 7 eyewitness news. turning to vote 2016, democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton blasted republican contender donald trump in front of an influential pro-israel group in washington this morning. clinton told the public affairs committee that iran's growing

planning new attacks in brussels and had accumulated a large group of weapons and people to carry out those attacks. the cafe in paris where 20 customers and staff members were killed during those terror attacks in november is now renovated and reopened. covered in flowers and bearing the names of the victims, the fresco has been painted at the entrance of the cafe. the nation's two largest fantasy sports websites have agreed to stop taking paid bets in new york at least for now. draftkings and fanduel had been resisting orders from eric schneiderman to stop taking wagers. he argues the sites let people gamble and are illegal. >> this is a decisive and important victory for the rule of law in new york state. >> the sites now are lobbying state lawmakers to get changes to new york law. more than 30 states are considering daily fantasy

we are back. we continue to follow breaking news as we told you, a bus slamming in to an overpass at 34th street as it was exiting we believe the fdr. we've got eyewitness news reporter tim fleischer there who has been able to talk to some folks to find out exactly what happened and what caused the driver to slam in to the post there. >> i can certainly show you some of the earliest pictures. you can see the aftermath of how this bus came off of the exit ramp at 34th street. he was actually heading north, then according to mta officials he lost control of the bus. you can see where she slid up on to a concrete abutment and slammed in to a pillar on the fdr.

been injured. some have already been transported to the hospital. we're right next to the helicopter so it's a little noisy right now. let's hear what one of the injured had to say. >> the bus was coming slowly. as it approached, it came in like at least on 25 and it hit dead on right under the pole as you can see here. it's been stuck there ever since, and moving slowly. so i made the call to 911. >> back live now, you can see where they have one of the emergency exits on the side of the bus to extricate some of the passengers to get them out of there. we understand none of the injuries are life-threatening. they've transported some of the folks. we're trying to determine also why the bus driver lost control of the bus.

little bit of snow early then cleared out. it was the 20th that had 4 and a half inches of snow and a trace on the 21st. 47 degrees. basically monmouth and ocean counties getting the higher amounts. berkeley township came in with an inch and a half. west orange and ridgewood with less than an inch of snowfall. suffolk county is expected with over 3 inches of snow in spots. hastings on hudson did well. 2 inches, and the park comes in with a trace of snow. danbury, a few inches in danbury. new canen came in with just under 3 inches of snow. wilton, connecticut with 2 inches. nice rebound. in the 40s here in huntington. numbers in the hudson valley are in the upper 40s. chilly in monticello. more clouds, couple flurries. wind chills in the 20s right now. the wind gusts will stay up during the evening hours. it's still a busy breeze overnight. does back off to 6 to 12 by morning.

it's not as bad. west wind, we should be able to get in the 50s tomorrow afternoon. ontario. even a couple flurries in the catskills. there's last night's storm. that will leave. because we're wedged in between this low and this high coming in the gulf states, we have gusty breezes. offshore. get in to more of that bermuda high position. winds will turn more southwest nicely. first step is getting the warm front through tomorrow night in to wednesday morning and numbers on the southern side of the warm front, 65 to 70. that's the type of air that will replace the brief chill we have in place now. these are the clouds associated with the warm front. we'll be fine through tomorrow with a fair amount of sunshine. late in the day clouds will stream in and turn us partly sunnier in the afternoon. a lot will stay to our north, but i can't rule out a brief shower wednesday before we start to warm up and get sunny during the day. brisk and chilly tonight.

a british judge is pleading

to settle their custody dispute. the singer took film director guy richie in the u.s. and britain to get custody of her 15-year-old son rocko. rocko has been living with his father in britain for several month. today the judge in britain dropped the case and asked for an amicable resolution. a judge in manmade the -- a judge in manhattan made the same request to the couple. an artist on long island is raising money for animals in need. >> meet dagger, the lab who is creating works of art and his pieces are selling all over the world. long island reporter kristin thorne met him today. >> reporter: art can come in many forms, and so can artists. >> paint. yes. >> reporter: dagger is a 3-year-old black lab who has quite an eye. >> pick a color. go ahead, pick. >> reporter: his owner, yvonne dagger, says she's just the

we're following two break news stories right now at 5:00. first an mta bus crashed in to a pole and concrete divider near the fdr and 34th street exit. >> at least nine people were injured. tim fleischer is on the scene with more for us. >> let's break out those injuries for you, as you pointed out, there are nine total injured that were on the bus here. six of them have refused medical attention. three though are going to the hospital with what we're told are nonlife-threatening injuries. certainly good in this situation. let me step out of the way and show you what's left of this. you can see how the bus rolled up on to this abutment and

the bus was coming off of the 34th street exit, heading north off the fdr when this accident occurred. we do not know just why the bus driver lost control. we don't know if he might have been cut off or whether he was not attentive, we don't know at this point. we're waiting for investigators to fill us in on that. here's what some of the passengers had to say when they were pulled from the bus. >> all of the sudden we crashed. that's it. >> did you get hurt? >> yes, my knee is banged up. my face is banged up too. and my phone went flying. thank god i didn't go flying. i was like tilting but i was okay. so i think it could have been a lot worse. >> again, there are nine people who have been injured on the bus.

three have been transported to the hospital. that's the scene at the crash site. tim fleischer, channel 7 eyewitness news. now to our other breaking story. this one in rocklin county. a 15-year-old boy stabbed inside a school. >> it happened during a fight at spring valley high school. the victim stabbed in the head. >> eyewitness news reporter josh einiger just arrived on the scene. he has the latest. >> it's been a pretty rough afternoon for students, for faculty, certainly parents here in spring valley after this stabbing incident earlier this afternoon. police still trying to investigate it. according to a county spokesperson, this happened around 1:00 this afternoon. two students fighting in a hallway here at spring valley high school. one of those students apparently armed with a knife then allegedly stabbed the other one three to four times in the head. according to a rocklin county spokesperson, that student was taken to the hospital with puncture wounds to the head but

it's not clear the status of the stabber, the student with the knife in this case. police and school district have not revealed any information to us about their investigation or any arrests that have been made. we can tell you one student hospitalized with stab wounds to the head after in the hallways of spring valley high school. injuries are not life-threatening. when we learn more information of course we'll bring it to you. live in spring valley, rocklin eyewitness news. all new at 5:00, new jersey prosecutors have charged a man with assaulting a police officer. 20-year-old amir al-karuni faces multiple charges from the incident in paterson that happened in september 2015. police say he resisted arrest, fled in a vehicle and dragged and tried to hit the officer. officer maribel candelo suffered injuries to her arm, hand, hip and leg. he pleaded not guilty. a calm but quick thinking teenager is credited for saving his own life and many others'.

girlfriend as a passenger when they had to make a crash landing on a golf course, but both teenagers are okay. today they returned to the scene of the crash and shared their terrifying moments when the engine cut off. ken rosato has the story. >> there are several occupants and looks like they're getting out of the plane but injured. >> reporter: two high school seniors recounting their spring break nightmare. >> i didn't really know what to do, what was going on. the first thing i thought about was my parents. >> reporter: certified pilot 17-year-old christian dell and his girlfriend nicole saved up to rent the plane. the return home was all smooth sailing until the last leg of the flight. >> it just started sputtering and ultimately failed. >> engine failure. >> i was just like looking at him, trusting that he knew what to do and i was praying to god that we were going to be okay.

christian's emergency training kicked in, narrowly dodging homes, trees, and power lines, crash landing on the 14th hole of a golf course. >> he did his job and that's now. >> from what i'm told the pilot did an excellent job. >> reporter: witnesses rushed to their aid, both teens taken to the hospital suffering concussions and head injuries. >> i kept telling him, you're else. he landed right there in the middle where no one was around. >> the faa is still investigating what went wrong. >> we're fortunate nobody else got hurt. >> reporter: ken rosato, channel 7 eyewitness news. new york city's health department now has set up a zika providers. this call center is expected to streamline testing procedures and assure the appropriate tests are ordered and tracked. starting today healthcare providers must call the health department for approval before they test any new york city

hoboken is testing a system called pay by plate with meters located on hudson plates. it uses photographic images of a vehicle's license plate to responsible for payment. drivers won't have to display a receipt on the dashboard. a parking app will be available for download on your smart phone. police officers face a whole lot of challenges but one officer went above and beyond when he rescued a skunk. that skunk had an applesauce jar stuck on its head. this was in somerville, new jersey. officer paparo who is known as officer pip risked getting sprayed and managed to get the jar off of the skunk. the skunk ran off, did not appear to be hurt. we don't know if the officer got sprayed. >> did he get sprayed? >> but his fellow officers would know because they would smell him. [ laughter ] i don't think he did. two coaches in new jersey hailed as heroes. today hear how they jumped in to action to save a woman from a burning car while on spring break.

a man who apparently returned one too many purchases to amazon is now banned from buying from the online retail giant. greg nelson had his amazon.com account canceled after he returned 37 of the 343 items he ordered. he claims all of the returns were justifiable but amazon uk canceled his account and deleted any remaining gift card balances. amazon said at times it cancels accounts because of extreme account abuse. apple unveiling designs for an upgraded iphone today along with the revamped ipad. the se looks the same but has a little more kick and a better camera. apple also revealed a new slimmer scaled down model of the ipad pro. and the apple watch is getting some new colors, new band choices, and a lower price, lowered by $50.

fleischer is at the scene with the latest. >> certainly a frightening accident involving this bus. six have refused medical treatment but three people have been taken to the hospital. this is the bus that came off of the northbound exit of the fdr, came off at 34th street, then for some unexplained reason the driver lost control, drove up on this abutment, then slammed in to this pillar. a total of nine people onboard were injured in this. one man was trapped inside. the fdny treated all those injuries. they even had had to extricate several of the people out an emergency exit on the side. here's what the fdny is saying about the one man who was trapped inside. >> we had had one person who had to be extricated from the bus. during the accident he hit the seat in front of him, was experiencing chest pains and so
