fleischer is at the scene with the latest. >> certainly a frightening accident involving this bus. six have refused medical treatment but three people have been taken to the hospital. this is the bus that came off of the northbound exit of the fdr, came off at 34th street, then for some unexplained reason the driver lost control, drove up on this abutment, then slammed in to this pillar. a total of nine people onboard were injured in this. one man was trapped inside. the fdny treated all those injuries. they even had had to extricate several of the people out an emergency exit on the side. here's what the fdny is saying about the one man who was trapped inside. >> we had had one person who had to be extricated from the bus. during the accident he hit the seat in front of him, was experiencing chest pains and so

to stabilize him, package him, and carry him off the bus and transport him to the hospital. >> my knee is banged up. my face is banged up too. and my phone went flying. thank god i didn't go flying. i was tilting but i was okay. could have been a lot worse. >> one of the passengers onboard the bus thought the bus was actually going just a bit too fast as it came around what is a curve as you come off that exit on to the service road. police have not determined what is the cause of this accident at this point. the driver was injured but not seriously. certainly they'll be talking to him, trying to find out what actually happened as this bus accident unfolded. tim fleischer, channel 7 eyewitness news. now to that funeral home mixup, putting the wrong body in the casket. >> amazing it wasn't discovered

some family members of the dead woman, val jean mcdonald said in the casket. >> but they went on with the funeral anyway. who was in the casket? michelle charlesworth in the woodlawn section of the bronx with this very disturbing story. about tonight. the grandchildren, 6 and 10 her. the adults were so embarrassed that they didn't know until cremation. they admit the woman they kissed in the casket looked a lot like their mother. plus she was wearing her clothing and jewelry and she had been terribly sick for a long time. and they, to be honest, could barely see from crying. >> horrible to hear that that woman is not your mother. but she had a proper burial. but it wasn't our mother. that's the problem.

leroy are two of her sons. at 81, their dear mother died of christmas. the body they said goodbye to and kissed and had cremated was not their mother. the funeral home called to tell them of the mistake. >> she has your mother's clothes on and jewelry, right? >> eyes full of tears. when we walked in there before you even step up to the -- >> i started screaming. >> reporter: mccall's bronxwood investigation. we asked for a comment and received the following statement. we've expressed to the affected families our acute distress and sorrow over this occurrence and we are reimbursing the mcdonald's for all costs. that reimbursement was news to the family when we called them back, and also something they never even asked for. their brother, who was returning to australia, was the first to see their actual mother. >> he went by there and he seen my mother laying out on a slab under the sheet. he said yep, this is mom. so the lady that we had had our

mother. >> what was your reaction? >> reporter: all the time from the moment they saw her, the grandchildren knew the truth. they insisted that was not her. listen to what a 10-year-old said. >> he came up and said, that don't look like grandma. >> they're not holding back. >> we didn't really truly say goodbye to our mom like we wanted to. she didn't deserve that. >> it was five days after the funeral that the family says the funeral home reached out to them to say please come here and see to say please come here and see if this is your mother and told them about the mixup. what about the other family, the spokesperson for the funeral home will only tell us they have not been identified, won't be, and they were never charged any money for this mixup. and so therefore will not be reimbursed. so sad. michelle charlesworth, channel 7 eyewitness news. so many unanswered questions
