news. >> gunfire on staten island, three people shot, two of them are dead. good evening at 11:00. i'm sade baderinwa. >> i'm bill ritter. new york police are on the scene now trying to figure out exactly what happened. >> eyewitness news reporter jim dolan has the developing story. jim? >> reporter: the mother and her adult son are dead tonight. mariners harbor is a residential neighborhood. at 6:30 in the evening there are children out here on the street. tonight was definitely no different until suddenly gunfire rang out, a lot of gunfire and now police are trying to figure out who fired nearly 15 shots and killed a mother and her adult son. the crime scene looked more like a war zone in staten island, not one but three people shot and down on the street. tyrone heard the shots and saw his friend on the ground. >> i was just like damn, i didn't expect him. the only thing he do is fix

he's a good kid like he fix cars. i didn't know any trouble whim. it's just crazy. it's just -- with him. it's just crazy. it's just crazy to see my friend dead. >> people heard shots, but they thought it was nothing. they heard about 15 shots and they thought it was nothing till one lady noticed a body in the parking lot and then they realized somebody actually got shot. they thought it was only one person. it turned out to be three. >> reporter: police cordoned off the area and started looking for clues and suspects as neighbors dealt with the sudden shocking loss. >> i heard the shots. i came outside. i just saw people on the floor, so i'm like oh, i seen somebody on the floor. i seen my friend. i used to go to school whim. it was a lot. i was like dam. i did not know -- damn. i didn't know what to do. >> life, it is what it is, wrong place wrong time. it could have happened to anybody. >> reporter: police have not yet identified this mother and her adult son who are dead.

will survive his injuries, nobody arrested yet in this case. live from staten island jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. from staten island to manhattan new york cops trying to identify a flashy red car because the people inside pretended to be police before they sexually assaulted and then robbed a woman in chelsea. two men in a camaro signaled to a 67-year-old woman to stop her vehicle on west 16th street. the suspect identified themselves as police officers. then they sexually assaulted the woman and stole her purse before fleeing. he's cried wolf too many time. now it will cost him. a man accused of making dozen of false alarm calls to a building in queens is under arrest facing a string of charges. investigators say 47-year-old kenneth campbell made 36 false alarm calls for apartments in his building on 135th street with neighbors he had problems with. about the call range from gas leaks, electrical fires to bomb scares and medical assistance. multiple agencies responded to some of the calls.

attendant accused of trying to smuggle 70-pound of cocaine tomorrow will be back in court where a judge will decide if she'll be released to home confinement. a judge in brooklyn today agreed to a half million dollar bond for marsha gay reynolds. prosecutors have 24 hours to appeal that decision. friday tsa officials at los angeles international airport a reynolds dropped a bag filled with cocaine worth millions and then ran. she was pulled aside for a random screening. that's how it started. a cab driver attacked and stabbed in the neck by a passenger in yonkers. as he stuffed out of his taxi, the suspect drove -- stumbled out of his taxi the suspect drove off with it. it was later found by police. the drive is in critical condition, his family speaking to our josh einiger. >> reporter: christian patterson had one thing going for him last night in this parking lot when he was found stabbed in the neck by his passenger, his carotid artery severed, it turns out right across the street is a hospital

stagger there for help is very likely what saved his life. all he did was his job, but it landed him in intensive care. tonight cab driver christian empado is hooked up to machines to keep him alive. >> christian is in very, very source condition. >> reporter: his fellow cab drivers in yonkers took a break from work to ask the public for help finding the man who left their friend fighting for his left. in this parking lot off north broadway that passenger with no neck. the driver's artery severed managed to run across the street to the hospital while his assailant drove off in his cab. >> every time that backdoor opens you're picking up a strange are and you don't know what that strange -- stranger and you don't know what that stranger is going to do to you. >> reporter: police found the cab abandoned on saw mill river road. by then empano was on his way

he's married, father of six. this is his cousin. >> he's pulling through. we want to say he's pulling through. he's still in intensive care of just pray for the best. >> reporter: family members say he took a turn for the worse tonight. police are in possession of video of a man who might be the suspect, but they have not released it publicly yet. live in yonkers tonight josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you, josh. big developments in the deadly terror attacks in brussels. authorities are now detaining at least six people in raids around the belgian capital as cops continue to search for what are now at least two attackers, one at the attack and a second bombing suspect at the subway. belgian's prime minister also rejecting the resignations of both his justice and interior ministers despite evidence of significant intelligence and law enforcement failures to prevent the bombings. in a strange move and despite experts saying more attacks are

meanwhile a fell that had been desperately holding out -- family this had been desperately holding out hope for two siblings in new york now told their loved ones likely did not survive the attacks. sascha and alex pinczowski trying to catch a flight home from new york. sascha and alex were not on the list of passengers who survived but were taken to the hospital. the suspects terrorists in france who authorities say was in advance stages of planning a new attack, the french national was arrested during a raid in a suburb of paris. officials say he was part of a terror network planning a high level attack in france. there is no link at this point between this plot and the terror attacks in brussels or paris. meanwhile in new york city tonight a new recruit to help france's counterterrorism effort, the foundation k-9's for cops donated a fully trained police dog to the french national police. the k-9 was presented to french s.w.a.t.

it's hoped he will help make up for the loss of a k-9 named diesel who was blown up in a raid five days after the terrorist attacks last november. as the world reels from the latest terror attacks tonight the republican presidential candidates have deinvolved into perhaps the lowest level of nasty campaigning yet. donald trump and ted cruz now embroiled in a nasty war over their wives. >> you mess with my wife and my kids, that will do it every time. donald, you're a coward. leave heidi the hell alone. >> the billionaire real estate developer posted an unflattering picture of heidi next to a beautiful picture of melania, trump ticked off over an ad showing his nude wife in a years old magazine photo. it was a superpac that supports cruz that aired the ad.

an appearance on jimmy kimmel tonight. california's primary is june 7th. kimmel asked mrs. clinton about national and domestic issues plus her thoughts on donald trump and some potential new campaign slogans. that's tonight after eyewitness news at 11:00. a man is caught breaking into a car in new jersey. unfortunately for the suspect the person who caught him in the act practices mixed martial arts. henry rodriguez was pulling into a parking lot by his home in fairlawn last night when he noticed a stranger removing items from his neighbor's vehicle. rodriguez confronted the thief who tried to push him off. so rodriguez put his martial arts moves right on him. >> he started running, so i went to grab him and then everything fall from his lands and then i grab him. -- hands and then i grab him. i hold him and i put him to sleep. >> he knocked him out. >> when police arrived the suspect 41-year-old kevin stark, jr. was passed out. he's charged with robbery and burglary. a man charged in a shooting

police officers has pleaded not guilty. frederick funez was ordered held without bail today on charges including attempted murder of a police officer. he remains in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds suffered in last month's confrontation in bed-stuy. police say he pointed his gun at officers and crashed his car into a police vehicle. two police officers were shot but survived. he helped redefine comedy on television talking directly to the viewers and taking them behind the scenes, garry shandling dying suddenly tonight. he was just 66 years old. the native of chicago was rushed to take los angeles hospital, the cause of death not disclosed. he starred in the larry sanders show in the 1990s about a late night tv host with anxiety trouble but with no problems skewering his industry at time. we're also remembering tonight nick scoppetta, an extraordinary new yorker who

about an 8th grade student bringing a gun to campus. a muslim student and what happened next in this unfounded rumor mongering was not the finest hour for a whole lot of people at a connecticut middle school. here's eyewitness news reporter carolina leid. >> reporter: an ugly insult spread into a disturbing rumor at dolan middle school in stanford, connecticut, but the situation escalated quickly when police were called to the school to question her son about what happened during an 8th grade social studies class nearly two weeks ago. >> one of the children in the class said about another kid he looks like the type of kid who would bring a gun into school and start shooting people. >> reporter: she says her son who is muslim, a palestinian of egyptian consent, simply tried to console another muslim student who was being bullied.

involved in this situation and questioned them for roughly two days all in, two days but no one else. >> reporter: but she says her son doesn't know who made the comment. the president sent this e-mail to -- the principal sent this e- mail to parents which reads in part it was determined these rumors were part of a very unsuitable joking among students. those involved will be disciplined and the entire student body has been informed of the dangers this kind of communication can have. >> i've spoken to my some at length about this situation and i've done my best to not upset him or have him have anger toward everyone else. but he certainly apology. >> reporter: administrators here at the middle school promise to get back to us with a comment. we have not yet received one. reporting in stanford i'm carolina leid, channel 7 eyewitness news.

bronx planning to sue the nypd after an officer shot and killed her beloved pet. the deadly encounter was caught on camera in the belmont section. the dog's owner opened her door when the officer knocked on the door. when the pitbull walked toward the officer wagging its tail, the officer shot it in the head. the owner is suing the department and the city. nypd is investigating the incident. a smash and grab that didn't quite go as planned. a driver rammed a car through the front of a clothing store in indianapolis making a clear path, but when it backed up, the driver not only hit another suspect, the security gate came crashing back down trapping the other thieves trying to get into the store. a few managed to get through grabbing the loot and took off. they're still on the loose. not the crime of the century, but a man arrested for not returning a vhs videotape that he rented 14 years ago.
