victims of the deadly explosion in the east village. one year ago, the powerful explosion killed two people and also destroyed three buildings and left dozens homeless. >> this is what it looked like in the neighborhood before, and after the explosion. today, family and community members gathered in the east village to remember the two victims. >> eyewitness news reporter diana is at the scene. reporter: tribute continues tonight. in a few minutes, a candle lit prayer vigil will be held to remember the lives of nicholas figueroa and moises locon. nicholas' mom tells me not a day goes by that she disease not think about her son and the way he died. >> every day, that pain is there. it seems like it happened yesterday. i mean that pain is never going to go away. reporter: nick figueroa relives the smoke

day. it's been one year since her 23 year old son went on a lunch date at the restaurant when a gas line exploded and the building collapsed. >> you know, i just hope that later on in the future nothing like this happens to nobody. >> my son was full of life. he, i lived through his eyes, through him because he was so adventurous, so loving, so caring. reporter: a 26 year old restaurant employee, moises locon was also killed. as the community and family memes remember, nick's father will present moises' family with a piece of the fire escape. >> this is the ladder itself that drops down from the fire escape. reporter: dozens were left homeless when the buildings came down. it was days before many could return home if at all. >> everything, everything was gone. reporter: mildred spent 44 years on the

explosion happened. the building owner and three others are facing manslaughter charges for an illegal gas line hidden from con ed inspectors. moments after the inspectors left the building, the line was resword causing the -- restored causing the blast. >> this situation that went on here for months and turned into a tragedy, so we don't have that in another location. that prayer vigil to remember nick and moises is expected to start at 6:30 this evening. the building owner is expected back in court later this week. now to the latest on the terror attacks in brussels. today, prosecutors announced they have charged three men with terror offenses. one of them identified as a

airport surveillance photo. in addition to the three people being charged, a fourth man is in custody. he's the person shot by police at a tram stop yesterday. today, charles schumer spoke about the broader fight to stop isis led terror. >> the fact that we have been able to take out the no. 2 person in isis is not an isolated incident. so while we see isis do terrible things, here, san bernardino, overseas, in brussels and paris, we know that they're on the run. reporter: since thursday, authorities have arrested nine people in belgium, two more arrested in germany. 31 people died in the attack. still, no flights in or out of the brussels airport. it will remain closed until at least tuesday. investigators say they need to check the structural safety of the building.
