stone wall inn. a transgender attacked in the bathroom. first a developing story. a car jumps a curb and mows down someone. witnesses say it was on purpose. good evening, i'm diana williams. >> i'm joe torres. bill and sade are off tonight. tonight the victim is in her life. it happened near union street and mlk drive. >> eyewitness news reporter jim developing details. >> that car came screaming down union street. it jumped the curb over here. it knocked over a light post, all the while dragging a young woman alone. witnesses say the two had been arguing beforehand and at least to them it sure looked intentional. >> reporter: the car had so much power built up before it slammed in to the wall. it knocked over a light post on union street but the traffic light was the least of it. a young woman was struck.

and victim had been arguing. >> they were fighting in the car. the girl jumped back in the driver's seat and just mowed her down. just ran her down. >> in your mind this was deliberate? >> deliberate. deliberate. the car jumped, while she was under it, jumped from there to there. >> reporter: he's the victim's uncle. he saw it all. >> she just hit the gas as hard as she could and just ran her down. >> the girl hit the gas and the other girl is right there in the corner and she hit the pole and the car ran her over. >> my reaction was why? why? why did it prompt you to run her over with a vehicle? why would you get inside a car when you had time to think about it? why would you do that? that was premeditated. >> reporter: the courts may well decide that issue. police say the driver who is also injured is in the hospital. >> every action has a consequence. so i think she should be fullest extent of the law. >> reporter: as police took the

in surgery with two broken legs and internal injuries after a shocking and violent cash on the sidewalk. >> can't get it out of my head. >> you can imagine what a nightmare for her uncle to see her hurt this way. we want to stress that nobody has yet been charged in connection with this incident. the driver of that vehicle is in the hospital and if police and prosecutors believe she is guilty of anything, they've not yet charged her with anything. the victim is in critical condition. reporting live from jersey city, jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. an accuweather alert. a wild night, potentially dangerous winds. a huge tree fell on to an apartment building in new jersey. one woman thought lightning had struck. when she walked outside she saw there was a tree on top of her apartment in parsippany. >> if they're old trees, they need to come down. they've fallen on the roof before but not bad. >> she says the building

clear to stay in the apartment tonight. in brooklyn tonight the wind blew down a construction fence. it happened on 8th avenue in sunset park. the woman on the sidewalk was hit by that fence. she was taken to the hospital in stable condition. the winds are just beginning. meteorologist lee goldberg in the weather center with the details. >> getting so messages on social media that shingles being knocked off, winds flickering. 51 degrees. temperature not the problem. the west wind is gusting to 44 miles per hour in central park. we've had gusts over 50 and that's why we've seen some reports of trees down near the philly area, now close to home a 58-mile-per-hour gust at laguardia. right now gusting to 33. 34-mile-per-hour wind at flushing. 48 at jfk. these are the types of numbers we're going to see right through the day tomorrow. that's why the wind advisory goes in to tomorrow. it's because of a huge powerful

historic stonewall bar. the 25-year-old was attacked in a restroom. i want you to take a look at this picture. police are putting it out. this is the person that they want to talk to. eyewitness news reporter n.j. burkett is there live tonight with the latest on this investigation. >> the woman was treated at a nearby hospital and yes, the allegations are disturbing but the mayor and the police commissioner are confident tonight because the image of the suspect is so vivid, people here at the bar have seen him before. >> what was your reaction? >> my reaction is how does that happen at stonewall? >> reporter: the bar's owners say the allegations came as a shock. a 25-year-old transgender woman claiming she was groped and sexually assaulted at the bathroom at the famed stonewall inn. the victim told detectives this is the man that attacked her. it happened shortly before midnight saturday night. investigators say she waited up

incident and by then the man was gone. nypd chief of detectives. >> case is going well. people inside the stonewall know him and we'll go from there. >> reporter: the suspect is described as hispanic, 5'9" to 5'11", around 35 years old, a gray suit and a distinctive goatee. the stonewall inn is a historic city landmark, considered the birthplace of the nation's rights movement after a police raid led to a riot in 1969. nearly 50 years later police and the bar's owners and patrons are working together. >> to see a violent incident like this is very, very troubling. but i have confidence based on information that chief boyce just indicated that we will apprehend this individual. >> it's always been a safe place. >> to be clear, the man in the surveillance images is wanted for questioning in this case. anyone with information to help police identify him is urged

we're live tonight in the west village, n.j. burkett, channel 7 eyewitness news. police looking for another man and they hope this sketch can help them. they say he assaulted a runner in a bronx park. the nypd says the victim was running on the putnam trail in van cortland park tuesday when two men approached him. one suspect distracted the runner while police say this man punched him in the face. the victim was cut on the cheek. today at the capitol building in washington, d.c., police shoot a man after he pulled out a weapon at a security checkpoint. tonight the suspect, 66-year-old larry dawson, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a police officer. he's in the hospital in critical condition. eyewitness news reporter josh einiger on the scene. he joins us now from washington, d.c. >> this all happened at the capitol visitors center which is clear on the other side of the

the reason we're here is because this is where larry dawson parked his pickup truck on this little street which gave him a very long walk around the capitol complex to get to the visitors center. he was a man on a mission. the question tonight is why. >> reporter: tonight police towed away the pickup trick dawson left near capitol grounds. investigators hope in that car will be the answers they need, an explanation for today's chaos. it was pandemonium at the capitol. >> police everywhere with guns drawn, people running and screaming, and people just dropping to the ground. >> reporter: the entire campus on lockdown after the sudden scare. >> based on the initial investigation, we believe that this is an act of a single person who has frequented the capitol grounds before and there's no reason to believe that this is anything more than a criminal act. >> reporter: it happened in the

tourists have to be screened. at 2:39 in the afternoon, a man approached the conveyer built and screening machine when suddenly he pulled what police say looked like a gun. at least one officer fired on the suspect. then came the chaos. police identified the suspect as larry dawson who has a stay away order after an outburst at the capitol last october. back then he called himself a prophet of god. police stress this was no act of terror. >> i was scared. i was thinking maybe it's time to go home. >> reporter: they're pretty rattled. they were a few blocks away when the capitol wound up on lockdown. as new yorkers, they're no strangers to security concerns. as they walked the grounds tonight, they said they had no regrets about their choice of a spring vacation. >> what are you going to do? not go on vacation, not going to take your kid out? >> we figured let's say a prayer and hope everything is okay. >> you can't see it in the dark

blossoms are in full bloom and that's really the context in all this. it's one of the busiest weeks for tourism all year here in the nation's capitol with security extra tight just days after brussels, capitol police say only one civilian suffered a minor injury in all the chaos. as for larry dawson, tonight he's at an area hospital. police say he's in critical but stable condition. we're live in washington tonight, josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. a somber interfaith vigil in brooklyn tonight for the victims of the deadly easter sunday terror attack in pakistan. dozens of people gathered outside a muslim community center in flatbush tonight in remembrance of the victims of the suicide bombing that killed 72 people. the blast went off in a lahore on sunday. the bomber meant to target christians celebrating easter but most of the victims were muslim women and children.

this is not what represents the millions and millions of people that believe in a peaceful religion. this is a criminal and evil act and we should all -- and we need to stand all together to combat this. >> a taliban faction that supports isis claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it deliberately targeted christians celebrating easter. in rocklin county a person has died from bacterial meningitis. officials say the unidentified person was a foreign national visiting relatives. during the visit that person got sick and was taken to the local hospital. the health department has identified people who had direct contact with the patient and antibiotics. they say there's no risk to local residents. just ahead, new health information that could keep your kids from getting ear infections. plus, an internet personality arrested for heinous crimes against underaged girls. >> a wild police chase.

new at 11:00, investigators in new jersey have charged a 32-year-old man with prostitution of underaged girls. prosecutors say robert ianuale would let girls participate in his swerve-cast. viewers could tip girls in exchange for performing sex acts. he's accused of offering online viewers money to sexually assault a new york city woman and broadcast it live. he got his license revoked tonight. a pet store owner in new jersey who's facing hundreds of animal cruelty charges is paying a price.

brunswick voted to revoke vincent lesacco's store license. the aspca filed 267 animal cruelty charges against him. he's the owner of just pets, and several animals at the store got sick and were deemed unfit for sale. some of the dogs died after they were sold. investigators found several other dead dogs in the store's freezer. a new york city postal worker wants four new york city cops to face discipline after they pulled him off his mail stop and arrested him. police arrested glen grays as he delivered mail on street. the officer's unmarked car nearly hit him. after words were exchanged, the plain clothes officers arrested him. >> african americans were targeted by cops. i thought it would be different if i put the eagle on my chest in the sky blue uniform and go to work every day, that situations would be looked at different. but obviously i wasn't.

he received a summons for disorderly conduct. investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the police stop which is now under review. governor cuomo ordering an immediate ban on all nonessential state travel to north carolina, a response to that state's controversial new law. north carolina legislators passed what's called the bathroom law. among other things it says transgender people have to use bathrooms that match the sex indicated on their birth certificates. mayor bill de blasio also imposed a ban on city sponsored travel to north carolina joining seattle and san francisco. hold on to your hats, says lee goldberg. >> should i do the wind tunnel effect? outside. >> it's kind of a sleep interrupting wind. you're going to hear howling. it's really whipping. outside right now we have temperatures in the 50s. camera shaking with the winds that are gusting.

state building in red tonight for a good cause, for multiple myeloma awareness week. keep that in mind. our temperature right now is at 51 degrees. a west wind at 16 is gusting to 39. the pressure is on the rise and the high today in when the sun came out. so above average tomorrow, we won't get to average. i think we'll be in the low 50s and will feel like 40s. rainfall is about .4 of an inch. sunrise and sunset times for your tuesday. we had had as much as .8 but that dried out quickly. winds can be damaging across the area right through the day tomorrow and it's chilly, really through wednesday morning now with these gusty winds. a late week warmup is coming in but that will end with wet weather later thursday in to friday. our numbers are still up there. 37 in monticello. we'll see more cooling overnight. these wind gusts hit in the middle of the night.

we could have wind gusts that touch 50 tomorrow. laguardia, 45 minutes. check your carriers tomorrow. there will be delays because of the wind. wind gustess to 35. 7:00 in the morning, partly sunny in the day. gusts should peak midday in the early afternoon, start to back off but very noticeable in the early evening. then they'll really start to drop off. still patchy clouds that will break up tonight. a couple sprinkles in the catskills. this is a very powerful storm. this has merged in to one potent storm moving in to the maritimes it. thankfully this area of high pressure will get here on wednesday and even late tomorrow night, start to build in and our winds will start to get lighter. watch the futurecast here. tomorrow morning upper 30s, and lower 40s across the area. wind chills will feel like basically in the 20s tomorrow morning. the afternoon. plenty of sunshine but it will feel like 40 to 45. when the winds die down tomorrow night in to wednesday morning,

in the 20s to low 30s. partly sunny, blustery, cold in the morning. wind chills in the 40s. up to 52 but with the gust feels like 40s. there will be plenty of sunshine out there. clear and cold. brisk in the early evening hours tomorrow night but then it gets calm and cold by morning. 57 on wednesday. on thursday i think clouds are increasing but the rain should hold off until later in the day. if that happens we have a great shot at recovering to 70 degrees. it looks mild on friday but it also looks damp and one thing about friday, took the sun out of the forecast. i think it's going to rain for much of the day. it will get cooler over the weekend. that sunday temperature, only 47. a couple april days in the 40s. bill evans will have an update in the morning. a woman takes a cab from new york city to pennsylvania then skips out on a very hefty fare. >> a wild police chase ends with the suspect in a muddy river. but that suspect still puts up a fight. you have to see how police finally got him in handcuffs.

the driver of the pickup truck led police on a chase to a river near houston, then he got to the riverbank and he jumped in and he tried to swim away. of course he didn't make it very far. he got stuck but he still refused to surrender. eventually police were able to rope him in. no word on why police were chasing him or what charges he's going to face. a woman faces criminal charges tonight. investigators accuse her of skipping out on a $600 taxi fare. the alleged fare skipper took a cab from new york city to denver, pennsylvania, a 135-mile trip. police say she got out of the cab and told the driver she would be right back in just a few minutes to pay the fare. she opened the garage door, walked inside, and never came back out, even when police knocked on the door. tonight's health alert, breastfeeding and new vaccines are helping to reduce ear infections in infants. a new study says 46% of infants
