of their own classmates and they are in the first grade. abc's gio benitez is here with the details and what the superintendent is now saying. >> good morning. we're talking about 7 and 7-year-old kids allegedly planning a murder. a plot to kill a student just as young. now, watch closely because this may just spark a conversation within your own home. this morning, three little kids allegedly involved in one big plot. first grade students at this anchorage charter school suspended after allegedly plotting to poison and kill a fellow student. school officials say they found out about the morbid alleged plan only after another classmate overheard the students talking about it. >> we're grateful that we had students come forward and share their concern. >> reporter: according to police, the young girls planned to put silica gel preservation packets from their lunchtime food bags into another student's lunch. the students believing the packets were poisonous. they are marked with do not consume warnings.

amongst my friends and i'm sure all of our viewers over there. do you ask your kids for their code? do you look through their phone? what do you recommend. >> there are rules that will help. number one discuss what is appropriate and inappropriate and don't just do it with photos. also talk about texts. you know that they want to flirt with their friends. you understand that but there has to be boundaries. they cannot just send anything because, you know, these decisions can haunt them the rest of their lives. limb their phone time. you know, a lot of these texts and these photos are sent late at night. no reason for your teenager to be texting. >> a good tip. somebody gave me and it's a hard-and-fast rule. no phones at night when you're ready for bed you hand over the phone. >> stock them in the kitchen or family room and monitor your kids' phone activity. don't hide it. don't pretend you're not doing it. this is a part of the right and privilege of having a phone. you'll check for not just what they're doing but their friends are doing.
