five boroughs later tonight. a strong smell of gas elementary school. officials say students who are not allowed into the school detected. instead, the kids were sent to new utrick high school on 80th street. thankfully, nobody was hurt. the source of the gas smell is still unclear. lawyers for a man accused of killing an mta bus driver while behind the wheel of a truck, rejected a plea deal. dominic is charged with second- degree murder, manslaughter, and dwi in the death of 49-year- old william pena. pena's relatives and coworkers were at the hearing this morning. >> ultimately, we want justice. william pena went to work. and what he did wrong that day was get to work on time. and his life was taken. you know, we will forever have to live with his loss.

adjourned until may. well, two 19-year-olds are accused of trying to use cash. they face a charge of petty larceny. the bills however, say at the top, for motion picture use only. on top of that, police say when the teens tried to run away from the scene, after passing one of the bills, they hit a parked car and a pedestrian. the injuries, thankfully, were just minor. a high school security guard is now under arrest, accused of secretly roger a student in the bathroom. then posting the video online. police say 24-year-old daniel williams walked into the bathroom in nassau county. while a 16-year-old boy was inside and taped him. he was arrested while posting the video. >> he posted on snap chat.

through personnel at the school. once they found out, they called police. detectives came to the scene and they went to view the snap chat. >> williams has been suspended from his job with pay. a man from new jersey is under arrest for distributing child pornography. adele mccray stored several pornography files on storage cloud that he accessed from several devices. several devices are now being examined for more files. mccray is charged with distribution and possession of child pornography. right now, some workers have walked off the job in protest. hundreds are participating in that job action. the workers claim they are concerned about security and demanding higher wages. the strike, though, is not impacting any flights am. city bike is pulling about 1,000 bikes from its streak street racks to inspect them for a defective part. the newest parts seem to be

expected. city bike said that could take a few weeks. >> more of our area could be affected by the zika virus this season. this morning, the cdc released an updated map of the areas affected by the u.s. and more of connecticut and new york. the areas may have a presence of the mosquito type that carries the virus. health officials, so though, -- though, say it does not mean the insects will spread the disease. cleaning up today from a round of severe weather. we're talking tornadoes, thunderstorms and major flooding. and now, millions of people remain on high alert. abc's adrien banqueter has the latest. >> reporter: they leave a trail of devastation. >> oh, my gosh. you're right. >> on wednesday, four tornadoes hit oklahoma with two more confirmed in arkansas and kansas. seven people were hospitalized.

his hostages. video shows just how the picture came to be. in this picture, you can see a pair of flight attendants, waving at passenger ben ennis, bringing them to the front of the plane. ennis stands proudly, not to take just one photo but two. he has defended the photo, saying he wanted to get a picture of what appeared to be an explosive vest. top aide has resigned after allegations he had an affair with her. the alleged girlfriend of robert bentley, governor robert bentley, walked away from her job yesterday. the two-term governor, former baptist deacon, is denying having that affair. but bentley is also admitting to saying inappropriate comments. a water rescue. heavy machinery saves a surprising entrueder. and a pand -- intruder. a panda poses for a selfie. we begin with that dramatic video of firefighters, battling raging floodwater to save three people in arkansas. fire officials say three people became trapped in their vehicle, after a severe storm dumped heavy rain near little rock. the water, triggering massive flooding and made the roads impassable. so the three people climbed out of their car, and clung to trees, until firefighters could arrive. but firefighters pulled each person ashore, using ropes. and fortunately, nobody got hurt. check out this incredible rescue. a man's motion-sensitive alarm was triggered in washington state. he discovered that the

this morning. n.j. burkett is live in the outback, with details and how police hope residents can help. >> and that's right. the drug problem here has reached epidemic proportions. those are the words of the police commissioner this afternoon. who says he is determined to take on this program, head on, with a new approach. what they are doing is establishing a hotline number. specifically for residents to call to report suspected drug dealing in their neighborhoods, ken. the commissioner is convinced that if a breakthrough can be made, it's going to come from the streets, from the neighborhoods, where drug dealing and drug using is often taking place. now, in addition, they're restructuring how the department responds to drug tips and how they are being prioritized. they're also taking a hard look at cases where people died of drug overdoses. making efforts to track down the dealers in those cases. but the commissioner insists

begins with the public. >> the number will be staffed 24/7. a member of the public calls the number. and he or she can remain anonymous. if he or she chooses. the caller will be asked a series of questions about the drug activity. a member of your criminal intelligence section will decide where that complaint goes, whether it goes to the precinct level or goes to a narcotics section in headquarters. and outreach organizations are praising the initiative. because the suburban drug trade has changed with a lot of drug dealing going on behind closed doors and out of public view. we're live in long island i'm n.j. burkett. a mother in long island is accused of driving drunk with her 2-year-old daughter in the back seat. kim shunning mcpherson, of lakeview, crashed crashed into

they gave her breathalyzer and she was more than two times the legal limit. after her arrest, police discovered mcpherson has an outstanding warrant for child endangerment as well. and we are seeing the clear surveillance video of the man police say is targeting elderly women in brooklyn, queens. this new video shows the suspect near the scene of the latest attack in kensington. police say he hit an 84-year- old woman in the face with a gun. in the process, breaking her nose. it was the fifth attack in the past two months. family from the bronx is desperate about information about a loved one who has not been seen in a week. 34-year-old javier converta was last -- his family is consumed with worry over this. >> even like the smallest thing that you think may not even matter. just call the proper therapeutics. let us know. -- authorities.

[ crying ] >> horta has several tattooso his arm, including very distinct, an incan warrior on hisurn left arm and a rose, with an arm breaking through a grave. first graders, apparently plotting to kill a classmate. >> reporter: three little kids, allegedly involved in one big plot. first grade students at this anchorage charter school, suspended, after allegedly plotting to poison and kill a fellow student. school officials say they found out about the morbid alleged plan, only after another classmate overheard the students talking about it. >> we're grateful that we had students come forward and share their concern.

young girls planned to place silica gel packeteds from their lunchtime food bag, into another student's lunch. the students believing the packeteds were poisonous because they're marked with do not cobsume warnings. -- consume warnings. they're actually nontoxic. but the tiny beads do pose a choking hazard. >> we talk to -- will talk to them and see if they recognize the seriousness of their actions. >> they sent home a letter to parents saying, quote, please take time to connect with your child to talk about what it means to tell in order to be helpful. while the alleged plot wasn't carried out, and no criminal charges were filed, parents are alarmed. >> a research officer spoke with each student involved, as well as the victim. and thoroughly went over with them the repercussions of this kind of stuff and really tried to give them the straight talk

this could have potentially turned into. >> reporter: lori stokes, channel 7, eyewitness news. one day before the deadline, it appears new york state has a budget deal. it reportedly includes a minimum wage increase to $15 an hour. there is also an agreement on paid family leave and tax puts for people making up to $300,000 a year. new jersey, meanwhile, has a $357 million budget gap, involving new jersey transit. but governor cristy says there will not be a fair hike -- fare hike this year. they said the latest contract deal reached with the workers wouldn't result in a fair hike until at least june of 2017. that's when the next fiscal year ends. we turn now to meteorologist bill evans in central park with the accuweather forecast.

a man from the bronx is facing charges after a police dog detected more than 1400 bags of heroin hiding inside the man's body. 49-year-old esstrella has pleaded not guilty. he was pulled over for a traffic violation in vermont, tuesday, leading to the discovery of the drugs. an arizona farmer is fuming after a teacher at his son's school wrapped his legs in duct tape. he has autism. he said the boy's legs were

the city. through training and execute being horticultural projects. we will help to improve those other parts. you know, again, very small projects. very small improvements. but it goes a long way, throughout all five boroughs. we've also been up since about 2005, doing the same thing. it's really a win-win. both for the parks department and the central park conservancy. >> i live up in harlem on the northeast side of the park. love it. overlooking the botanical garden. but if you had to tell me, you guys know everything from the soil to the trees to the buds. every plant at the park. tell me a unique thing about central park and plant life. >> sure. there's approximately 20,000 trees in central park. as you can see behind us, many of those are in flower now. most of those are cherries and magnolias. we have about 300 acres. most importantly, everyone has their special mace.
