civilian vehicle here on summit avenue. right now no word on how either the officer or the person in that vehicle are doing right now. from there the motorcycle according to police kept on going, hit a car in maywood on spring valley avenue, this all happening in the middle of the afternoon, right around 2:00 this afternoon. residents tell me they can't believe all of this unfolded at that time of day. >> rush hour, got to let the guy off, unless he did something really, really bad. >> they can't take any chances. i support the police. >> and the person on that motorcycle suffered moderate injuries according to police. he is in custody and at the hospital. reporting live in hackensack, eyewitness news. we're going to stay in new jersey for our next story, it's

initial lead testing results are in and they reveal elevated levels of lead. aj ross is in newark tonight. >> those test results came in minutes ago according to newark public school officials. the results from eight nontraditional sites like malcolm x fieldhouse, they have elevated lead levels in the water, meaning some massive changes are definitely underway. these results are just the first phase of additional tests to come back from the lab following the alarming discovery earlier this month of 30 newark public schools. the eight sites tested in the most recent round were deemed priority 1 and include athletic facilities, buildings leased to charter schools and student centers. samples were taken from 16 drinking water sources. about 5% of those drinking water sources had elevated readings. this was just the first phase of several phases of the additional

is now doing and they will be posting these results continually online as full disclosure to parents, students, staff, everyone. we'll have much more coming up on eyewitness news at 11:00. live in newark, aj ross, channel 7 eyewitness news. homicide detectives are on the scene of a disturbing discovery on long island. a newborn girl found lifeless in a bag outside of a home. police were called to the home on walnut street in glen headed to. officers found a 20-year-old woman with severe bleeding which childbirth. a bag. and on the back deck of the home >> an e.r. doctor determined there was a pregnancy involved. location. an autopsy will be conducted on the newborn child to determine whether the child was born alive or was stillborn. >> the woman is being questioned.

with investigators. the suspect in a shooting in a bus station in virginia that others has died. gunshots rang out of the greyhound station this afternoon in richmond. all three victims were taken to the hospital. life-threatening injuries. right now the area near the station is cordoned off while police continue their investigation. now to new information about the brussels terror attack. officials were warned about one week before the attacks. the intelligence division warned dutch authorities about khalid and ibrahim el bakraoui. it was seemingly overlooked. the brussels attacked at the airport and the subway killed 32 people. back here in our area, an eyewitness exclusive. an out of control car slammed in

hits four people. the accident happened last night in a busy fordham section of the bronx. cefaan kim with the new and exclusive video of that crash. >> you see how many pedestrians are packed on to that sidewalk there. this happened around the same time of day yesterday. imagine a speeding car slamming in to a crowd there. eyewitnesses say it was chaotic and panic. >> reporter: take a look at this surveillance video exclusively obtained by eyewitness news. taken from east fordham road in the bronx. a sidewalk packed with people. this mother with her baby in a stroller passes by then just 10 seconds later, a speeding car comes crashing in to a crowd of people, slamming in to four of them but somehow they all survived. >> lucky for this. this is what saved me. i think it would have done real damage if it wasn't for this. >> reporter: this is the light pole lopez is talking about. the impact knocked the utility

spun it around. the garbage can thrown right in to this storefront. lopez stands on this corner every day holding this sign. you can see the car crashing right in to him, knocking him down, but he says luckily he was only grazed by the wheel. >> this flew, hit that and broke the window. the lady was standing over there. she got hit. two ladies that was coming up got hit and they put their hands on top of the car and pushed them back but they got hit pretty good. >> reporter: this is cell phone video shot by an eyewitness capturing the panic after the crash. it happened around 6:30 p.m. yesterday. police say the 36-year-old driver of the chevy impala swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle. eyewitnesses say he was going about 30 to 40 miles per hour. >> the driver was just walking around like he was kind of stunned. he didn't really look like he knew what was going on. >> three of the victims were

expected to be okay. lopez refused medical attention. that driver remained on the scene and received the summons from a failure to yield to pedestrians. reporting live in the bronx, cefaan kim, channel 7 eyewitness news. now to the race for president and new york primaries just 19 days away. a new poll shows hillary clinton and donald trump have home state advantages. in the republican race a quinnipiac university poll gives trump 56%, a 36-point lead over cruz. john kasich is in third place. this poll was taken before trump's controversial comments about punishing women if abortion becomes illegal. the democratic race is closer. mrs. clinton has 54%. bernie sanders, 42%. sanders is holding a big rally in the bronx this evening. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is there. >> after months of caucuses, primaries in other states, it's finally new york's term in the political spotlight. bernie sanders and hillary

when voters head to the polls. >> come election day, it shrinks and often we go over the top. we think we had an excellent chance. >> reporter: meantime, a day after campaigning in harlem, hillary clinton held a rally in westchester county, painting frontrunner. >> i have earned 9 million votes in this election already. donald trump. and i have 2 and a half million more votes than bernie sanders. >> reporter: for both candidates, new york would be a political and personal victory. clinton represented the state for eight years as a u.s. senator and has lived in chappaqua for nearly two decades. sanders was born and raised in brooklyn and needs a lead to cut in to clinton's big lead in delegates. when new yorkers go to the polls in just a few weeks there will

two 19-year-olds are accused of using fake money. the two tried to use fake $100 bills to make purchases at stores. the bills were clearly marked for motion picture use only. that's a photo of them. to top it all off, police say the teens hit a parked car and pedestrian when they were caught. thankfully the injuries were just minor. it was spring here. many homeowners are getting ready to clean up their backyards and fertilizer their lawn.

of all of that grass in central park. 250 acres of lawn. looking awfully green and beautiful. here's meteorologist amy freeze. >> the first mow is underway. >> reporter: this is a sure sign of spring in new york city, turf crews cutting 15 acres of grass. we were invited along. bill evans onboard during the noon news. lee goldberg helped with the edging. i fantasized about a huge number 7 right in the middle of the meadow. the truth is, mowing grass in central park has a protocol, and it's done with high tech equipment and a multimillion-dollar budget. >> these machines cost about $80,000 a piece. >> reporter: this is not your dad's mower. there's absolutely no clumping and it's precision down to every blade. it's tough to understand with 42 million visitors entering the park, they can keep it looking so perfect. caretakers admit they have mixed emotions when these lawns open. >> when you see hundreds of

case but police have been pouring through this area looking for clues. we were here a short time after it happened. we took some video. we want to show you. it's our understanding a woman was slashed. she was put immediately in to an ambulance. and shortly there after she was taken to the hospital. this is another slashing. people in the city getting very frustrated obviously about all the slashings. again a woman was put in to an ambulance. she was taken to a hospital as police were combing the area and people just getting out of work reacting this way. >> it's terrible. especially in this area. i would have never ever thought this would have happened here. it's terrible. >> once again, a lot of people just getting out of work. we spoke to at least one man walking out of this building, 65 broadway. he's walking out of the building. right as he's walking out, he told me he actually saw the woman fall to the ground. he didn't see much else.

that's a small chance. outside we go with a gorgeous looking sunset over new york harbor. very dramatic. almost looks threatening but no storms right now. there are showers off to the west that will develop as we go to the late evening. still at 67. pretty gusty wind. that wind is gusting over 30 miles per hour. 29.87 inches of mercury with the barometer. high today, 73 for the last day of march. 18 degrees above average. only 9 degrees away from a record high. goes in the books as the fourth warmest march on record. only seven days were below average. 58 in ronkonkoma. again, the national air conditioning from the atlantic keeping the coastline cool, that will be the case tomorrow. low and middle 70s like today in poughkeepsie and newark. these temperatures should be attainable, maybe add a couple degrees to them tomorrow. the winds continue to be gusty. we'll have gusty winds tomorrow especially in a couple thunderstorms. as we go through the early evening hours, you don't need your umbrella past 7:00 or 8:00. couple spotty showers form

tomorrow morning the commute will be wet in spots. wet roadways. maybe even isolated thunder at that point. we'll have a couple downpours through late morning. i think there will be windows where it's dry for a moment. we can be near 70 by noon before stronger storms come in midafternoon. high clouds around right now. she's will come in during the first part of the night. then we watch this line of thunderstorms. if you watch the futurecast, it's not depicting but toward eyewitness news at 11:00 i'm not going to be surprised to see a couple showers around. maybe isolated shower or thunderstorm at that point. should be a bit of a lull in the action. as we go in to the afternoon, another line of showers and thunderstorms likely to form. this particular futurecast is depicting the heaviest to be east in to the evening commute. first part of the commute may be a little bit dicy. then things will dry out in to tomorrow evening. breezy and mild. spotty showers probably after
