huge rallies or big events ever since he declared his presidential bid last year but tonight that all changed and rather dramatically. >> reporter: after his loss in wisconsin last night, a homecoming for donald trump. >> first of all, it's great to be home. this is home. it's great to be home. we love new york. >> reporter: a supportive and large crowd somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000, and here trump blasted his closest rival, ted cruz. reminding everyone of what cruz once said in a debate about new york. >> i've got this guy standing over there, looking at me, talking about new york values with scorn on his face, with hatred, with hatred of new york. >> reporter: the latest polling shows donald trump with a commanding lead in new york. he's already looking ahead to the election this fall. >> by the way, i will beat hillary so badly in the general election. >> reporter: there were only two minor protests inside with two arrests.

red, white, and blue cowboy hat was taken out. and 20 minutes in to his speech, the crowd chanted, pointing to a couple protesters. they were also escorted out. >> don't hurt the person. don't hurt the person. >> reporter: this crowd was loud and many spoke of anger, disappointment, us against them. >> the politicians promised us things and they didn't do what they promised and this is how this man has risen to where he is today. it's a lot of frustration. >> i just think he's great. we should definitely build that wall. they need to take back the country honestly. >> reporter: trump wrapped up with a plea to vote april 19th, and he closed on a familiar line. >> we are going to win, win, win. we're going to make america great again. i love you. >> and looking ahead there is not another primary between now and april 19th. the next primary is the new york primary. we're going to see a lot of all these candidates, both republicans and democrats over the next 12 days in new york state.

ahead, donald trump will have to win 57% of all future delegates. ted cruz. he has to win 80% of all those delegates. news. while there were cheers inside the rally, it was a different scene outside. hundreds of protesters lined the streets both for and against eyewitness news reporter josh einiger is there with that part of our coverage. >> when they hit that magic number of 11,000, the capacity inside the venue where trump was speaking, a lot of supporters were turned away. they left the old grumman campus only to encounter a pen full of anti-trump protesters. the police had to scramble and set up a separate pen so both sides could yell at each other for hours. >> reporter: it might have been unseasonably cold tonight, but along oyster bay road, the tempers were hot and a dueling

lighthouse prep academy canceled its bigger event with cruz. it claimed the senator from texas is racist, homophobic, and misogynous. >> his values don't reflect on us as a school. if ted cruz doesn't want us or mostly from immigrant backgrounds in this country, then we don't want him inside our school. >> so he didn't go. cruz tonight attending private fundraising events in new york city. he'll continue his campaigning in new york city with an event in brooklyn. ohio governor john kasich will also be there campaigning in brooklyn and park slope at vfw. on the democratic side, hillary clinton is launching an all-out effort to win votes in her home state. clinton will be campaigning tomorrow in new york city. on friday she'll head to buffalo and rochester. she then plans on returning to the city for events on saturday, possibly sunday. today she was campaigning in pennsylvania. ahead of that state's primary on april 26th. her opponent bernie sanders

it will be cloudy and windy. accuweather is just 2 and a half minutes away. students at one of the largest colleges in the u.s. are on edge tonight as police investigate a possible murder mystery. the body of a woman in her 20s was found at the bottom of a creek yesterday at the university of texas in austin. police have not released the victim's name nor would confirm that she was a student at the college, but classmates say she was a well known dance student. police are conducting extra patrols and warning students not to walk alone. meanwhile, police on long island are trying to figure out who would steal a wheelchair from a disabled boy. the wheelchair was stolen from outside a home in holbrook. kathleen bermelia said her 10-year-old son cody who suffers from several disorders including cerebral palsy needs the chair to get around. >> the only way i can think about it and not be sad is that somebody needed it maybe more
