making for treacherous driving conditions. in the midwest, this crash in chicago, at least one death reported on the roads there. and tax day may be fast approaching, but you would not know it by the whiteout conditions. in lancaster, pennsylvania, and take a look at this, a scene straight out of december. some spots in ohio getting nearly a foot of snow. this brutal cold snap already postponing one major league baseball game and there's more rough weather on the way. abc's senior meteorologist rob marciano leads us off tonight. >> reporter: tonight, dangerous conditions across the midwest now churning east. >> accident on theize eisenhower. >> reporter: black ice and zero visibility in snow triggering this 14-car pile-up overnight on the eisenhower expressway in chicago. one person killed, four injured. icy roads making for some white-knuckle driving across

ten inches of heavy wet snow in some areas, at rates of up to 2 inches an hour, downing trees and knocking out power. snow in virginia, showering down on the cherry blossoms and forcing the washington nationals to call off that game today. wind chills there expected to fall in the 20s, temperatures plunging 20 degrees below average. freeze warnings stretching from connecticut to the carolinas. just two hours of subfreezing temperatures are enough to wipe out a crop. this north carolina farmer blanketing his strawberries just to keep them warm. >> there are no guarantees in farming, we can't really do anything to control the weather. >> reporter: and these farmers in minnesota kicking off spring planting season with a tractor parade through heavy snow. lot of people putting their spring planting on hold here in central park. a mixture of rain and snow throughout the day. this is the second wet snowstorm here in the month of april. so far. remarkable, cecilia. >> it's absolutely brutal, rob. break it down. how bad is it going to get?

>> well, we still have snow falling in parts of southern new jersey. you see it there on the radar, as things rotate through, that will end from west to east tonight. already an inch-plus in atlantic city. temperatures are going to drop like a rock tonight. 30 in new york city. freezing all of the way down to columbia, south carolina. freeze warnings are posted. should also mention, a lot of rain in southern california. rains that come tomorrow, could be heavy enough to have some flash flooding. we're watching that system as well. cecilia. >> does not feel like spring. rob, thank you. next to the fbi's most wanted woman behind bars tonight. brenda delgado was taken into custody in mexico. authorities call her the mastermind behind a murder for hire plot that left a dallas dentist dead. the arrest came 48 hours after

most wanted list. abc's phillip mena. >> tonight, the capture of a fugitive, after seven months on the run, brenda delgado now under arrest in northern mexico. the suspected mastermind behind the death of the dallas dentist, who was gunned down in the garage. the motive for the plot, investigators say, jealousy. hatcher was dating delgado's former boyfriend. >> it was a murder for hire. >> reporter: police say the suspected hit man seen on this surveillance camera was promised drugs in exchange for killing hatcher. that man and an alleged getaway driver was arrested. but delgado fled shortly after police questioned her. >> what's left is to bring her to justice. >> reporter: investigators believe that she was hiding out in her native mexico. >> by placing her on the top ten list, it placed pressure on the mexicans to pick her up. partly expedite the extradition process will

>> reporter: to make a deal, for her extradition, u.s. officials agreed to take the death penalty off the table. mexico opposes capital punishment. but she can still fight extradition herself. and delay a return here to dallas for months. cecilia. >> phillip mena, thank you. a break in another man hunt to report tonight. anthony garver is now back in custody after escaping from a p sshgs yshgs psychiatry hospital on wednesday. he was hiding under debris in the woods. he's charged in the 2013 stabbing death of a young woman. police say that while he was on the run he contacted his parents trying to get a passport to flee to morocco. and now to that breaking news overseas. in those belgium terror attacks. you'll remember this surveillance video and that man in the hat inside the brussels airport. right there with the two suicide bombers and then caught on camera, again, in the moments after the blast.

that man, mohamed abrini, has confessed to being that infamous man in the hat. abc's alex marquardt is in brussels tonight with more on how authorities say he got away. >> reporter: answers finally tonight in the frantic manhunt for the so-called "man in the hat" from the brussels terror attacks. according to belgian authorities, mohamed abrini, arrested friday, told them today that he is that man, seen with the two airport suicide bombers who targeted the departures hall. abrini allegedly leaving behind a bag of explosives before fleeing, the escape caught on surveillance cameras. the 31-year-old belgian was also the last known suspect of the november paris attacks, charged today with terrorist murders and participation in a terrorist group. authorities say brini's dna had been found at the brussels apartment, a virtual bomb factory, from where he and the other attackers left to the airport. new audio was released today believed to be one of them calling for the taxi.

taxi at 7u15 in the max roosstreat 4. >> reporter: and the bags they used, the federal prosecutors said, were bought by this man, osama k., slapped with the same terror charges today. authorities say he was at the maelbeek metro station with the suicide bomber who blew himself up. the prosecutor's office tells us tonight that with all the video they had of the man in the hat, abrini had no choice but to confess. authorities say that he threw away the tan jacket in the garbage as he fled and then sold the hat he was wearing. cecilia? >> alex, thank you. we want to turn now to the race for the white house. another vote just coming in. bernie sanders, late bernie sanders, late today, declared the winner of the wyoming caucus. the vermont senator now claiming victory over hillary clinton in seven of the last eight states, but the next big fight, right here, in new york. abc's mary bruce has this side of the story from the famed apollo theater. >> reporter: tonight, with that

is vowing to take the fight to the democratic convention. >> this looks like an audience that wants a political revolution. >> reporter: the sanders' campaign now saying if hillary clinton does not clinch the majority with pledged delegates before the convention, sanders will contest her nomination. winning new york in ten days is key to his strategy. >> if we can win here, it absolutely opens the door to a path toward victory to the white house. >> reporter: sanders is closing in on pledged delegates, with about 45% of them so far, but clinton is still ahead. >> i'm going to keep going until i have all of the delegates i need to be nominated. >> reporter: in the bronx today, sanders' supporters told me, bring it on. >> that is a fight that i want. >> so, you're following bernie all day long from one rally to another? >> yes! >> that's devotion. >> reporter: sanders

billionaire and his wife. trump left after half an hour. for once, avoiding the reporters waiting to hear from him. this is the first time we have seen him in days. he spent much of the past week huddled with his top campaign advisers after that disastrous loss to ted cruz in wisconsin. that virtually ensures donald trump won't have a clear-cut convention victory. today, cruz is in friendly territory. >> god bless the great state of colorado. >> reporter: many of colorado's 37 delegates chosen today at the state party convention. >> go cruz! >> reporter: the process, a political version of speed dating. 600 wannabe delegates have ten seconds each to make their case. cruz is poised to win most if not all of them. overnight, trump tweeted bitterly, isn't it is a shame that the person who will have by far the most delegates and many

three-hour tour, just like gilligan's island. a group stranded, making a plea for help with whatever they could find, and as abc's eva pilgrim reports, luckily for them, they caught the navy's attention. >> reporter: tonight, three real-life castaways lucky to be alive after their three-hour sailing trip went really wrong, stranding them for days on a tiny, deserted island. the passengers set sail that day for a three-hour tour >> reporter: their story, eerily similar to the opening scene from the '70s' tv show "gilligan's island." but it's this image catching headlines -- the three spelling out "help" with palm leaves. search crews saying they did everything right to get rescued, a big wave taking out their boat on their way to a small island in the pacific. the men forced to fight through two miles of choppy water, thankfully armed with these life vests. >> the personal flotation devices allowed them to stay
