scandal at a local hospital. a worker is arrested for giving unauthorized physical exams, sexually assaulting and taking pictures of the unsuspected nursing students. first, an investigation in to fundraisers connected to mayor bill de blasio. this as the mayor says he'll receive some of the contributions he received. good evening at 6:00. i'm bill ritter. it might be the biggest bump in the road yet for the administration of new york mayor de blasio, or not. a federal investigation, the u.s. attorney's office and the fbi probing two of the mayor's fundraisers. it's a sidebar to the same federal corruption investigation

n.j. burkett in lower manhattan tonight with our lead story. >> that's right. what does a former restaurant owner in harlem have in common with police commanders in brooklyn and two borough park businessmen who are fundraisers for the mayor? there are at least three degrees of separation in this widening investigation. >> i remember a lot of people i know from borough park, i don't remember knowing those two individuals. >> reporter: the mayor today was firm. that he barely knows jeremy reichburg shown here on the left, and jonah recnits, two former businessmen currently under investigation along with the nypd's former chief of department. investigators are pouring through finance records from the mayor's 2013 campaign, amid questions about how donations from the city's real estate and business interests were solicited and whether individuals may have benefited. >> if i think my administration hasn't handled something well, i'll say so.

things appropriately, i'll also say that. we are very, very careful about doing things in a legal and appropriate manner. we're very, very careful about disclosing the support we get. >> reporter: over the weekend, agents arrested hamlet peralta, accused of running a ponzi scheme. peralta ran the hudson river cafe in harlem and that investigation took agents to the two businessmen in borough park who raised money for the campaign. as well as the police commanders in south brooklyn suspected of granting favors in exchange for trips, gifts, or cash. nypd commissioner bill bratton. >> we took action last week. it's five members of the department. we'll continue our participation. we'll see this as an administrative conflict of interest. criminal violations by any member of our department. >> the commissioner tells me he's not ruled out further administrative action as this case unfolds. in an interesting twist, the two brooklyn businessmen were

that accused ponzi schemer, and this whole case apparently flows from that. the u.s. attorney's office here in lower manhattan has declined to comment on this case. we're live tonight in lower manhattan, n.j. burkett, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> what a story. and what a scene in midtown today. 58th street between 6th and 7th avenues still shut down right now after a water main break caused damage to the road. big damage. water from the break spilling over in to a steam pipe. that caused plumes of what looked like smoke to rise to the ground this morning. water has been shut off in 14 buildings. it's affecting 350 customers. the department of environmental protection trying to figure out exactly what led to this water main break. we're following a developing story that affects your evening community. officials say avoid the lincoln tunnel. big delays you can see on the new jersey turnpike because of emergency repairs. it's closing two lanes on the southbound eastern spur of the turnpike near exit 15x. that's what you're seeing right now from our traffic cam.

i voted for it. senator sanders voted against it. >> reporter: at a gun violence forum, clinton claims sanders in his home state of vermont share the blame for new york city's violence. >> in the state that has the highest per capita number of those guns that end up committing crimes in new york come from vermont. >> reporter: and she rid culd sanders saying he can't handle the pressure of new york city media. >> he's had trouble answering questions about his core issue, namely dealing with the banks. >> reporter: upstate today, sanders hit back at clinton, calling her too cozy by wall street and demanded she release transcripts of her big bank speeches. >> i will release all of my transcripts. sexually assaulting them during these so-called exams. and secretly taking pictures of them naked. eyewitness news reporter tim he's at bridgeport hospital. >> in the suspect's stanford apartment, police did find shocking material. here in bridgeport, a number of people are quite surprised that a healthcare professional has been arrested. >> we didn't think the man was going to take pictures of you. you know what i'm saying? i don't know. it was crazy to me. >> reporter: andre williams and others who have doctors in and around the sprawling bridgeport hospital facility are surprised to hear of the arrest of 62-year-old barry barkinsky accused of multiple counts of sexual assault and voyeurism. >> there was extensive contact between mr. barkinsky and the victims in this case. >> reporter: barkinsky, who was an ems coordinator and teacher here at the bridgeport hospital school of nursing, came under

confirm, after a victim claims that barkinsky, while offering chiropractic treatment allegedly examined his genitalia and secretly took pictures. there are four victims, city officials say. >> there were some things that happened that troubled some of the victims. >> reporter: one victim city officials confirm had enrolled in barkinsky's class and none of the victims were patients. hospital officials say barkinsky, who did not work in patient care areas, is no longer employed at the hospital and they have no record that he provided treatment at the hospital. no one answered the door here at barkinsky's stanford apartment where city officials found some 2,000 pictures along with other videos. >> digital in nature. that is essentially relevant to the case against mr. barkinsky. >> reporter: his landlord only says -- >> no one knows him. he just stays to himself. >> reporter: bridgeport hospital officials say they

some serious questions tonight about privacy and who exactly is listening to passengers on new jersey transit. this after the big commuter transportation agency is installing more video and audio surveillance systems on its train. it's supposed to help fight crime but now there are questions about civil rights. here's eyewitness news reporter lucy yang. >> reporter: be careful what you say. surveillance cameras on new jersey transit's light rail

being upgraded to record not just your every move but also your every word. >> totally disagree. no audio. >> reporter: granted there are signs warning riders on the trains which have already been upgraded, but that is hardly calming the critics. >> it's really a monumental invasion of privacy. so that's the real concern, that's there -- they don't have a warrant or any other legitimate reason to be recording these conversations. >> reporter: it's reported the river line trains are already recording conversations. work is underway on the hudson, burgen, and newark light lines to tap in to audio well. federal grant. >> wow, that sounds invasive. >> i personally don't care if they're recording me if they want to hear what i'm having for dinner tonight, they're more than welcome to figure that out. >> to me it doesn't matter because it's for our security. >> reporter: we reached out to new jersey transit all day for a response. so far no statement. so in addition to the privacy issue, it's not clear how long

d a dog in utah surviving a 150-foot fall off a cliff. toby is a 1-year-old english sheep dog poodle who was with his family last weekend during a hike when he apparently heard something and jumped off a cliff. family called search and rescue who were able to go down and get the dog. toby has injuries to his head, brain, and eyes, not to mention sore muscles, but he was happy

meteorologist jeff smith in for lee goldberg with a good prediction as we move toward tax day. >> a lot to look forward to except for that tax day thing. [ laughter ] the 18th this year. >> they're giving you till the 18th. >> that's good news. that's what we have to look forward to. >> and 70-degree warmth later in the weekend and early next week. we head outside right now, actually got up close to 70 in parts of the area. during the day today, newark got up to 67 degrees. here's a live look out toward central park where we got up to 63 this afternoon. now down to 58, we've had a couple light sprinkles and light showers moving across the city. south wind right now coming in around 8 miles per hour. this is all after a morning low of 43. that's about normal for this time of the year. and for a change after such a cold weekend, we actually had our high temperature go above the normal high of 60. the record was 84 back in 1955. headlines are looking like this. a stray shower this evening. we have a couple of those moving across the area right now especially north and west of the city.

we'll get a break between early this morning and between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning where not much is going on. morning rain tomorrow gives way to afternoon sun and temperatures getting back in to the upper 50s. we're about a week away from sustained 70-degree warmth. a lot to look forward to here. 43 is not a lot to look forward to in monticello. that's because you had a lot of cloud cover north and west of the city and showers for much of the day. total opposite to the south. more sunshine down by brick, new 64 there. 64, toms river. cooler on the island and southwestern coastal connecticut because we've had a breeze coming off of the cooler waters of the atlantic ocean. the radar showing a batch of showers moving from west to east across the area. this one here moving in to new york city from northern parts of new jersey, maybe some steadier rain here over central passaic county, just about to move in to bergen county and a little bit of light rain crossing over the hudson river in to manhattan. parts of staten island getting in to the act and lower hudson valley and southwestern connecticut.

break in the action over central pennsylvania and then there's much steadier rain over ohio and parts of indiana and illinois and that will move in overnight tonight. we put futurecast in high resolution mode to show you the details over the next 12 or so hours. you see even through 8:30 there can be a scattered shower or two then we get the break right around surrounding midnight. then as we head in to the wee hours of the morning, especially approaching dawn, here comes the steadier rain moving in to the west. by 7:00 in the morning, there could be heavier downpours embedded within this larger patch of rain. you see the back edge approaching binghamton. that means it will probably move through around noon time tomorrow then we start clearing things out. here's your accuweather forecast for tonight. breezy and mild. a stray shower early which we're getting some right now. then steady rain developing toward dawn. we're down to 52 for a low. periods of rain in the morning tomorrow then clouds giving way to afternoon sunshine. 59 heading in to tomorrow night.

meanwhile in boston, the red sox home opener, the last in the career of david ortiz who says he will retire at season's end. they played highlights of his career before the season started. martinez, russell, wakefield, varitek on the field as guests but the biggest moment came when ortiz's daughter alex sang the national anthem. he didn't seem to have any idea. it was very, very cool. nhl stanley cup playoffs. rangers-penguins, wednesday. today, practice for the rangers. there's a lot going on with this team. goaltender henrik lundqvist isn't feeling well. he left the ice early but is expected back at practice tomorrow. ryan mcdonagh skated before practice. he's nursing the hand won't be ready for game one. dan girardi didn't practice today but should work tomorrow. the rangers need to get healthy in a hurry. >> everybody has to step up. we can't think about that.

on the golf schedule is the u.s. open in june. jordan spieth, the defending champion and favorite to win. he's hoping for a better finish than he gave us yesterday at the masters. he was the defending champion there as well. spieth headed to the back nine in the final round with a five-shot lead. everybody figured he'd cruise to back-to-back masters titles, but spieth followed back-to-back bogies with a quadruple bogey on hold 12 and he finished in a tie for second place. danny willett won. as defending champ, spieth had to help willett in to his green jacket as masters winner. that's a tough day. although $880,000 seemed to ease the pain a bit. knicks and nets wrap up their regular seasons this week. head home for the summer. the golden state warriors beat the spurs last night for win number 72, that ties the michael jordan-led chicago bulls for most wins ever. they have another one yet to play, wednesday at home against memphis. remember, the spurs hadn't lost
