backlash over a racia a bold promise tonight from new york mayor de blasio. he says he will not again talk about the widening federal probe in to possible influence pedaling by two of his fundraisers. this is the same investigation that's sent scandal waves through the nypd. good evening at 11:00. i'm bill ritter. >> and i'm shirleen allicot in for sade baderinwa. the federal investigation by the u.s. attorney's office and the fbi now widening and where it might end, that's the big question. >> eyewitness news reporter jim dolan at city hall with our lead story. >> the mayor found himself in the uncomfortable position tonight of fending off questions about two brooklyn businessmen who contributed heavily to his campaign in 2013 and who are now under investigation for their ties to four nypd commanders.

about doing things in a legal and appropriate manner. we're very, very careful about disclosing the support we get. >> reporter: some of that support came from these two men, jeremy reichburg on the left and jonah on the right, a pair of brooklyn businessmen now under investigation amid allegations of pay-offs to police and possibly others. >> i met them around the time of the general election, had not known them previously, had spent very little time with them in the last year. >> reporter: investigators are combing through the mayor's 2013 campaign records to see how money was solicited from the brooklyn business community and if any individuals benefited. even as they look in to the actions of four nypd commanders from brooklyn south to see if they may have traded special treatment for cash or gifts. additional action. >> no, the investigation as i've mentioned is still ongoing and last week's action was based on information that we had

the action that we took. >> reporter: police arrested he ran the hudson river cafe in harlem and is according to police the central figure in the probe. police say he ran a ponzi scheme from the restaurant. the mayor says he's done nothing wrong and will return any money donated. >> i hold myself and my administration to the highest standard of integrity. i've been in public life a long time. i'm considered a reformer for a reason. >> we want to stress that reichburg and recnits have not been charged with any crime. they're just under investigation at this point. the mayor said he will not answer anymore questions about the two men, preferring instead to let the investigation run its court. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. speaking of the mayor, mr. de blasio brushing off criticism about an awkward joke he made with hillary clinton right beside him during a charity event saturday night.

>> mayor de blasio wants us to give out summonses. okay? i don't know if you voted for him or not. i don't live in the city. i wouldn't have voted for him. he wants us to give out summonses. >> we are blurring the face of the officer because right now the nypd says it is investigating this case. no findings or actions yet. according to nypd statistics, moving violations have not drastically changed since mayor bloomberg left office. a fire burned through a home this evening. when firefighters got to the woman, she was already in cardiac arrest. we are told the victim did not live at the residence. her identity hasn't been released. nine people lived in that home and are in temporary shelters tonight. a bank heist in brooklyn tonight, raising some serious security questions. the thieves getting in through the roof. no alarms going off. it happened sometime after the

staff didn't discover the missing money and jewelry till today. a very strange bank robbery. eyewitness news reporter josh einiger at the bank in borough park. >> a stranger bank heist carried off by what must be a professional group of thieves. right now the fbi has joined this case with the nypd and they're still here on the scene searching for clues, focusing not just on the bank branch but also on the business to the left of this bank as they try to figure out what really happened here. >> reporter: tonight more than 12 hours after arriving, workers realized something was amiss. nypd crime scene investigators were still gathering evidence on 13th avenue, trying to solve a daring heist that's the stuff of legend and has this insular mostly hasidic community abuzz with conspiracy theories galore. >> i live a block away. i didn't hear anything. i didn't see anything.

>> they knew what they were doing. >> these are professionals. that's scary. >> reporter: this morning police discovered the way in from what they've determined is surely an experienced crew of crooks. someone planned this impeccably, waiting for the bank to close friday on the eve of the jewish sabbath, then cutting holes in a chain link fence and using a ladder to get to the roof where they popped open a hatch and shimmied in. >> i've never heard of anybody going through the roof. >> reporter: once inside, police sources say, the thieves managed to get in to the bank's vault where they stole cash totaling $280,000. and they went to town on soft deposit boxes, stealing people's most valuable possessions. and then they left. somehow, police sources say, the whole caper eluded the glare of who knows how many cameras throughout the bank. no video recorded. no alarm sounded. just a whole lot of cash gone. >> maybe they found this area a

this time a staten island driver captured the dangerous maneuvers sunday afternoon, part of a growing group of new yorkers who are fed up. >> i think it's a shame. like why would you do that? >> that's just crazy. they can do that, this is no place for play like that. >> it's really not a big deal if no one's getting hurt. >> it's absolutely terrible. i'd like to see the police be able to do more, not have their hands tied with things like this. >> reporter: police say every weekend atvs and dirt bikes take over new york city streets. nypd, chief gomez showed us plenty of examples, including dirt bikers wearing no helmets, driving recklessly in the south bronx, and large groups of bikes and atvs stopping traffic to perform stunts in washington heights. >> we do not want to chase these individuals through the streets. i believe that causes even a greater danger to motorists, pedestrians, and themselves.

weeks alone, the nypd has made 65 seizures and 12 arrests for driving recklessly. police commissioner bill bratton says this year 312 atvs, motorcycles and motor bikes were seized. >> we have significant resources out every weekend looking to get these characters. and basically the individuals operating these bikes, these knuckleheads if you will, it's all about them showing off and the pack mentality. >> reporter: in staten island, carolina leid, channel 7 eyewitness news. in new jersey the pasqac valley school board voting tonight to let transgender students use bathrooms consistent with their gender identity. the school in hillsdale pushed for the change. the school superintendent said

sunday in to the low 70s. so we don't have to wait as long as we thought earlier. 48 right now, morristown. 58 down the shore. 52 on the island at islip. we had a few showers earlier. you needed the umbrella earlier. there are a couple showers over parts of duchess and alster counties. this is a pretty good slug of rainfall, western pennsylvania and southeastern parts of ohio. this will move off to the east. we put futurecast in high resolution mode to capture all these details overnight tonight in to early tomorrow morning by 4:15. you have some of the steadier rain moving from i-84 in points north and west. just after that batch of steadier rain moving in to the five boroughs of new york city. so leave yourself a little bit of extra time for the commute. definitely grab the rain gear. maybe a heavier batch of rain around 9:45 a.m. with the actual frontal passage. then it quickly comes out of here. by noon time it's raining down the jersey shore.

there is low and then there is really low. a thief caught on camera stealing a ring off a dead woman's corpse. this video shows a woman leaning over a casket. happened in texas. then wiggling a wedding ring off the 88-year-old dead woman's finger. the thief is still on the loose tonight. if she's caught, she'll be charged with a felony. the kicker, the ring was plastic, worth just about $10. a new warning about the zika virus. u.s. researchers now say the more they learn about the virus, the scarier it becomes. doctors with the cdc met with white house officials today and say they've learned more dangerous complications that could be affected throughout an entire pregnancy. the obama administration has redirected $589 million to fight zika virus.

in tonight's health alert, new recommendations for people who take an aspirin a day to help prevent heart attacks or strokes. federal officials say people younger than 50 or older than 69 who have no history of heart problems should not take an aspirin a day. there's no evidence aspirin helps those people. they also warn for people over 70, daily aspirin may be harmful due to the risk of bleeding. rob powers up next with sports. >> things not going according to script here for the mets. the season is a week old. met fans are not exactly thrilled with the way things are going. straight ahead, they try again. mets at home against the marlins. steven matz tries his luck but didn't have much of it.
