a bold promise tonight from new york mayor de blasio. he says he will not again talk about the widening federal probe in to possible influence pedaling by two of his fundraisers. this is the same investigation that's sent scandal waves through the nypd. good evening at 11:00. i'm bill ritter. >> and i'm shirleen allicot in for sade baderinwa. the federal investigation by the u.s. attorney's office and the fbi now widening and where it might end, that's the big question. >> eyewitness news reporter jim dolan at city hall with our lead story. >> the mayor found himself in the uncomfortable position tonight of fending off questions about two brooklyn businessmen

campaign in 2013 and who are now under investigation for their ties to four nypd commanders. >> we are very, very careful about doing things in a legal and appropriate manner. we're very, very careful about disclosing the support we get. >> reporter: some of that support came from these two men, jeremy reichburg on the left and jonah on the right, a pair of brooklyn businessmen now under investigation amid allegations of pay-offs to police and possibly others. >> i met them around the time of the general election, had not known them previously, had spent very little time with them in the last year. >> reporter: investigators are combing through the mayor's 2013 campaign records to see how money was solicited from the brooklyn business community and if any individuals benefited. even as they look in to the actions of four nypd commanders from brooklyn south to see if they may have traded special

>> you haven't ruled out additional action. >> no, the investigation as i've mentioned is still ongoing and last week's action was based on information that we had available to us that warranted the action that we took. >> reporter: police arrested hamlet peralta over the weekend. he ran the hudson river cafe in harlem and is according to police the central figure in the probe. police say he ran a ponzi scheme from the restaurant. the mayor says he's done nothing wrong and will return any money donated. >> i hold myself and my administration to the highest standard of integrity. time. reason. >> we want to stress that reichburg and recnits have not been charged with any crime. at this point. the mayor said he will not answer anymore questions about the two men, preferring instead to let the investigation run its court. jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news.

de blasio brushing off criticism about an awkward joke he made with hillary clinton right beside him during a charity event saturday night. >> i was running on cp time. >> i don't like jokes like that, bill. >> cautious politician time. >> it happened at the inner circle show, a kind of mayoral roast. mr. de blasio was commenting why he was slow to endorse clinton. based on the colored people time, a joke about being late. >> it was a staged show, a scripted show, and the whole idea was to do the counterintuitive and say cautious politician time. every actor involved including hillary clinton and leslie odom, jr. thought it was a joke on a different convention. that was the whole idea. >> both the mayor and mrs. clinton has faced pushback. de blasio said people

meanwhile, we have disturbing new video tonight. a traffic stop and a new york cop giving a driver a ticket and a piece of his mind about the cop's opinion about mayor de blasio and giving tickets. >> mayor de blasio wants us to give out summonses. okay? i don't know if you voted for him or not. i don't live in the city. i wouldn't have voted for him. he wants us to give out summonses. >> we are blurring the face of the officer because right now the nypd says it is investigating this case. no findings or actions yet. according to nypd statistics, moving violations have not drastically changed since mayor bloomberg left office. a fire burned through a home this evening. when firefighters got to the cardiac arrest. we are told the victim did not live at the residence. her identity hasn't been released. nine people lived in that home and are in temporary shelters tonight.

tonight, raising some serious security questions. the thieves getting in through the roof. no alarms going off. it happened sometime after the bank closed friday and the bank staff didn't discover the missing money and jewelry till today. a very strange bank robbery. eyewitness news reporter josh einiger at the bank in borough park. >> a stranger bank heist carried off by what must be a professional group of thieves. right now the fbi has joined this case with the nypd and they're still here on the scene searching for clues, focusing not just on the bank branch but also on the business to the left of this bank as they try to figure out what really happened here. >> reporter: tonight more than 12 hours after arriving, workers realized something was amiss. nypd crime scene investigators were still gathering evidence on 13th avenue, trying to solve a

legend and has this insular mostly hasidic community abuzz with conspiracy theories galore. >> i live a block away. i didn't hear anything. i didn't see anything. >> i think it might be an inside job. >> they knew what they were doing. >> these are professionals. that's scary. >> reporter: this morning police discovered the way in from what they've determined is surely an experienced crew of crooks. someone planned this impeccably, waiting for the bank to close friday on the eve of the jewish sabbath, then cutting holes in a chain link fence and using a ladder to get to the roof where they popped open a hatch and shimmied in. >> i've never heard of anybody going through the roof. >> reporter: once inside, police sources say, the thieves managed to get in to the bank's vault where they stole cash totaling $280,000. and they went to town on soft deposit boxes, stealing people's most valuable possessions. and then they left. somehow, police sources say, the whole caper eluded the glare of

throughout the bank. no video recorded. no alarm sounded. just a whole lot of cash gone. >> maybe they found this area a target because it's quiet on the weekend, not a lot of police around here. >> people will go back to mattresses. more safer. >> back here live on 13th avenue in borough park, the nypd crime scene unit still here processing. it's not clear just how long this investigation will take tonight and it's not clear how long it will take them to figure out who's behind this very surprising caper. we're live in the borough park section of brooklyn, josh einiger, channel 7 eyewitness news. a dance instructor will face a judge on long island tomorrow, accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenaged student. 27-year-old bryan galvis, an instructor at the herencia calena dance will be arraigned on charges. police say he was having sex with a 14-year-old girl he was

verizon workers. they've held protests. now about 36,000 landline phone and cable workers could walk off their jobs beginning wednesday morning. the issues in dispute, healthcare cost, pension cost, and contract workers. workers have been without a contract since last august. a busy street in midtown, manhattan open to pedestrians. but west 58th street still closed to traffic, this as utility and road crews work to repair a water main break between 6th and 7th avenues. water from the main spilled on to a steam pipe. that caused plumes of smoke to rise from the ground. reckless stunts on new york city streets. atvs and dirt bikes weaving in and out of traffic. tonight what the nypd is doing to crackdown on the riders. >> americans are causing a beer shortage. we'll tell you where it's a problem. >> and get your umbrellas ready again.

a very mild evening out there. 55 degrees after getting in to the mid 60s during the day today. we had a couple showers earlier this evening. now we're tracking a steadier batch of rain off to our west. it will start moving in after about 4:00 in the morning. but the trend is our friend. you're going to want to stay tuned for this accuweather 7-day forecast coming up in about 3 minutes. tonight the new york police crackdown on those three wheeling all terrain vehicles that have been menacing new yorkers and causing chaos in the streets. staten island a target for those crackdowns, and home of the frightening video you're seeing. carolina leid tonight on the streets with the illegal atvs. >> reporter: this is yet another example of atvs and motor bike drivers disrupting traffic because, well, they think this is cool.

captured the dangerous maneuvers sunday afternoon, part of a growing group of new yorkers who are fed up. >> i think it's a shame. like why would you do that? >> that's just crazy. they can do that, this is no place for play like that. >> it's really not a big deal if no one's getting hurt. >> it's absolutely terrible. i'd like to see the police be able to do more, not have their hands tied with things like this. >> reporter: police say every weekend atvs and dirt bikes take over new york city streets. nypd, chief gomez showed us plenty of examples, including dirt bikers wearing no helmets, driving recklessly in the south bronx, and large groups of bikes and atvs stopping traffic to perform stunts in washington heights. >> we do not want to chase these individuals through the streets. i believe that causes even a greater danger to motorists, pedestrians, and themselves. >> reporter: in the last two weeks alone, the nypd has made

driving recklessly. police commissioner bill bratton says this year 312 atvs, motorcycles and motor bikes were seized. >> we have significant resources out every weekend looking to get these characters. and basically the individuals operating these bikes, these knuckleheads if you will, it's all about them showing off and the pack mentality. >> reporter: in staten island, carolina leid, channel 7 eyewitness news. in new jersey the pasqac valley school board voting tonight to let transgender students use bathrooms consistent with their gender identity. the school in hillsdale pushed for the change. the school superintendent said it's the same policy adopted in several other districts. the change has some detractors.

anything is a good weekend. we have about a six-hour period of rain coming up between say 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. and then things start clearing out during the day tomorrow. then it's all uphill from there. live look outside toward the empire state building. 55 right now. this is after getting up to 65 during the afternoon. calm wind for the time being but that will pick up from the south overnight. normal high is 60. we're a full 5 degrees above that for a change after such a cold weekend. 84 was your record in 1955. highs today got up close to 70 jersey. upper 50s on the island with that cooling influence. steady rain developing after about 4 a.m. that rain lasts through about midmorning and then it gives way to afternoon sunshine during the day tomorrow. now we're less than a week away from 70-degree warmth. i made a minor adjustment, increasing our temperatures by sunday in to the low 70s. so we don't have to wait as long

48 right now, morristown. 58 down the shore. 52 on the island at islip. we had a few showers earlier. you needed the umbrella earlier. there are a couple showers over parts of duchess and alster counties. this is a pretty good slug of rainfall, western pennsylvania and southeastern parts of ohio. this will move off to the east. we put futurecast in high resolution mode to capture all these details overnight tonight in to early tomorrow morning by 4:15. you have some of the steadier rain moving from i-84 in points north and west. just after that batch of steadier rain moving in to the five boroughs of new york city. so leave yourself a little bit of extra time for the commute. definitely grab the rain gear. maybe a heavier batch of rain around 9:45 a.m. with the actual frontal passage. then it quickly comes out of here. by noon time it's raining down the jersey shore. in the city we'll have dried out and cleared out areas north and west with sunshine returning.

breezy, mild, steadier rain developing from the west after about 4 a.m. we're down to 52. 53 at 7:00 in the morning. overcast and breezy. periods of rain and wet travel, kind of a slow-go for the morning commute. that rain lasting through midmorning. then clouds giving way to sunshine during the afternoon. breezy out there. 59 for a high. nice recovery after a dreary morning. clear to partly cloudy tomorrow night. we're down to about 40. some of the suburbs tomorrow could get a frost or freeze so be watching that. mostly sunny on wednesday. 58. like i said, it's all uphill. 60 on thursday. 61 on friday. mid 60s on saturday. we've raised sunday up to 71 degrees. it's sunshine from start to finish each and every one of those days. we have a really nice stretch coming up that we deserve. bill evans back in the morning with more. >> we sure do. we've been waiting a while for this. new warnings tonight about the dangers of the zika virus. >> plus, a heinous crime.

white house officials today and say they've learned more dangerous complications that could be affected throughout an entire pregnancy. the obama administration has redirected $589 million to fight zika virus. officials say more money is needed. in tonight's health alert, new recommendations for people who take an aspirin a day to help prevent heart attacks or strokes. federal officials say people younger than 50 or older than 69 who have no history of heart problems should not take an aspirin a day. there's no evidence aspirin helps those people. they also warn for people over 70, daily aspirin may be harmful due to the risk of bleeding. rob powers up next with sports. >> things not going according to script here for the mets. the season is a week old. met fans are not exactly thrilled with the way things are going. straight ahead, they try again. mets at home against the
