race for president in all eyes in the empire state over the next two days as new yorkers get ready to vote. donald trump is about to hold a news conference. ted cruz is about to have a town hall. >> bernie sanders, planning a rally and concert in queens. there is a lot to cover. >> reporter: good afternoon, guys, we can tell you a few minutes ago, donald trump came down to the lobby here at trump tower, and greeted the members of the national diversity coalition. he said something very briefly, and said he would reconvene with the group in about an hour. donald trump is perhaps the only candidate in a very comfortable position going into tomorrow's primary, because he has such a significant lead. for the other candidates, they'll be campaigning right up until the very end. this morning, senator ted cruz sat down on "good morning

hour town hall meeting, answering questions from a poll of registered republican voters from across the country. >> everyone understands right now, that washington is broken. >> cruz is trailing, heading primary. if the polls are correct, donald trump could win big. trump is hoping for a clean sweep. earning all 95 delegates, which would officially block cruz from winning the delegation. right now, trump is ahead more than 30 points in the polls. >> i love new york and you heard cruz on new york values. >> hillary clinton and bernie sanders are running a very tight race. >> i'm very hopeful. i love being in new york. i love campaigning in new york. down state, upstate, everywhere in the state. >> bernie sanders kept busy sunday, drawing a huge crowd in brooklyn.

you have this 35-year-old store owner who had a gunpointed in his face. he looked down the barrel of that gun, then grabbed it, got shot, and is already back at work. >> just seeing who has taken the money. >> reporter: the first instinct may not always be correct. when the two men tried to take his money, he wasn't letting it happen. >> that's not my time. time. >> reporter: the 35-year-old is already back to work after getting shot in the hip and grazed in the right hand. two men walked into the grocery store in east new york and tried to rob it. one of the men had a gun. syed wrestled with the gunman and got shot in the process. shot. i opened the window. >> reporter: the two suspects

president obama has to enforce it. megan hughes is outside the supreme court building in d.c. to explain what is at stake. >> good afternoon, those arguments just wrapping up. this issue, the latest hot button dividing republicans and the white house as well as red and blue states. both sides out in full force today. people lined up outside the court over the weekend to hear the historic arguments. and for some, it was personal. >> i'm most afraid of my family country. >> it would directly benefit both of my parents, because it would give the opportunity to have a work permit. it would have defraction, which would keep them from being deported. >> reporter: the 8 justices will consider president obama's actions. he also created a program for parents whose children are here

work no the united states. but the programs have been on hold since february 2015 after a lower court struck down the president's executive order as unlawful. the white house says the president has the power to tell border patrol agents how to prioritize who gets deported. lawyers representing the 26 states and the house of representatives will make the case that president obama overstepped authority. >> president obama repeatedly and emphatically stated he did not have authority to issue such an order without congressional action. >> reporter: so what if the justices are split here 4-4? the president could actually leave office with these programs still on hold. a decision is expected by this summer. at the supreme court, leggen hughes, channel 7 eyewitness news. while we already have a winner in today's boston

iraq. the announcement coming during a surprise visit to the country carter. the secretary pledging an additional 200 troops and apache helicopters to help fight isis. he has a series of meetings with officials, including the top commanders there in iraq. turning now to rising tensions between the u.s. and russia. the pentagon says a u.s. recognizance plane was intersuspected by a russia fighter jet while in international airspace. it happened over the baltic sea.

first, i've got to applaud what you you did. second, tell me how that man ended up in that spot in the first place. >> reporter: good afternoon, have a very soggy texas, i might add. that man was traveling along this road, when all of a sudden he hit this wall of water. he told us, he didn't think it was that deep. his car is still underneath that water right there. again, he basically said he didn't realize how deep the water was. his face says it all, he was panicked in the moments that followed. if you don't know this about houston, of course, we have a lot of underpasses and overpasses, and that water tends to pool in those areas. so they certainly become a frightening situation for drivers who decide to venture out in the weather. in the past they have been deadly. so it's a good thing that that man was able to swim out of his car, and was able to make it

>> he was so disoriented. you'd think you would know what to do in a situation like that, but i guess he was in a state of shock, it seems. >> reporter: absolutely, we were getting to do a live report about the historic flooding happening here in the city when out of nowhere really, he just drove that car right into the water, and i looked back, i thought he was going to leave. he didn't exactly know what he wanted to do. i think you said it best, he was in a state of shock. >> i want to apologize to our audience, because there's a little delay in this conversation. but steve, let me ask you this, what kind of reaction are you getting from people there from you stepping in? you went into that water pretty deep to try to help this guy out. what kind of reaction have you been getting? >> reporter: overall, positive, i think a lot of houstonians out there for people in this city, this is an ongoing fear if you're driving in the city, that you might hit water like this in a flooding situation. so a lot of people around the

put on the sunscreen, sun block. yes, the first sunscreen, sun block alert of the season. even though the temperatures are going to warm up, and the sun is not, it's full strength this time of the year, but the uv index of 7. you can get a sunburn on fair skin. about an hour is all it takes. enjoy. i'll be there to mow the lawn again in a couple of days. island. temperatures starting to warm up nicely here. looking at temperatures that have warmed up to about 74 degrees. as we go into the afternoon, the temperature is only going to get warmer from this point on. as we go into the afternoon, the winds have been just kind of light and out of the northeast. that will continue to be very nice as we go into the afternoon, and we'll continue to see these temperatures hitting the 80-degree mark. i think by the time we get to the afternoon, we find ourselves with some very warm weather and a lot of sunshine, that is across much of the area

hours. here we go at noon time. i'll give you some graphics really quick. we're going to be looking at a temperature of 74 degrees. the humidity has been on the dry side, and looking at an around 51. 80s west, 70s along the coast. then it's breezy. we're going to have cooler air that will be coming in. the cooler air is going to be finally working its way in through much of the day tomorrow for wednesday. look at that uv index of 7. we're looking at temperatures around 73 around queens. 74 for poughkeepsie. 77 around brit, new jersey. some warm spots. most of the peak heating of the afternoon is around 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon, so that gives us time to get to 80 degrees. then tonight, we're going to be looking at cooler air pouring in here across the eastern hours, and into tonight, that temperature tonight drops down into the 50s. then we'll see temperatures that will continue to fall, maybe into the 60s, as we go

happening today, camille cosby will face more questions over her husband bill cosby's alleged sexual assaults. this will be her second round of questions. it's for a defamation case brought by seven women in massachusetts who have accused bill cosby of sexual assault. the judge has told, has banned any questions about camille cosby's own sexual conduct. the next chapter in the oscar pistorius murder case starts in june.

we begin this half hour with attempted luring in new jersey. here's the twist. police say a man posed as a police officer, and tried to abduct five children in bloomfield. >> new jersey reporter toni yates is live in bloomfield with the details. >> reporter: yes, i want to start out by saying it is an absolutely beautiful day to be out here at the park. there are a lot of people taking advantage of the weather out here. but what you will notice, if you come out to brookdale today is a larger police presence. lots of police vehicles making the rounds, and again, if you come out here, you will see essex county sheriff's units, and police vehicles. it's an added show of security while they continue to investigate what they are still calling at this point, a possible attempted luring. a group of five kids, ages 11 and 12 told police that yesterday a man walked up to

was a police officer, and said at some point, in some way that man said that he would throw one of the kids into his van. the kids saw no van. that's what they told police, but they did run away, they told their parents who then contacted police. this all happening at about 5:30 yesterday. one kid also telling police that the man looked to be about in his 50s or so, and that he was heavy set. for now, it is a stepped up police process until they can figure this out. the sheriff's department have said they have some cruisers going around the park as well. they also called in a sketch artist who will try to sketch the person that the kids say they saw, if there is an update at all on this story, we will definitely bring it to you. toni yates. >> such a disturbing case. meanwhile, a family from new jersey says their dog is kidnapped and held for ransom. the 14-month-old dog named

in the bronx on thursday. a little while later, a man demanded $200 for the return. angelo's owner are asking anyone with information to contact them. we have the details on our website, abc7ny.com. a 32-year-old man was fatally shot by police in south ozone park after officers say he reached for a gun. family members say the man is george tillman. a father of five. the nypd says early sunday morning, plainclothessed police officer noticed him holding a container. as they closed in, officers say he reached for this gun, prompting them to fire. >> this is a very quiet neighborhood. nothing like this has ever happened over here. at least not as long as i've been here. >> a total of four officers discharged their weapons,

family says the 32-year-old only started to run after shots were fired. just in time for high school proms and graduations, new york state is starting an aggressive new program to reduce teen driver deaths and injuries. the campaign includes public awareness ads and the state is stepping up law enforcement around high schools around the state. police will target speeding in school zones along with drunken driving and texting while driving. today, new jersey governor chris christie is discussing a program that allows first responders to help people who overdose. he will be taking part in a training session, and round table discussion about narcan in hoboken. narcan is a drug that counteracts the effects of heroin and opioids. emt's are able to carry and administer. now to a new kind of air scare. a british airways flight

believe was a drone as the flight was coming in for a landing. llama hassan has the story. a british airways flight on its way from geneva to london, making its final approach to heathrow airport. that's when the pilot says an object he believes is a drone strikes the front of his plane. all 132 passengers were unharmed. engineers inspecting the aircraft finding the damage superficial. clearing the plane to fly again. experts remain worried if it gets caught in the engine, the results could be catastrophic. >> we've had so many near misses with drones around the world. >> reporter: this shows how a drone can destroy a jet's engine in seconds. in the u.s., the faa has laws

it was a computer glitch. the university of buffalo sent out acceptance emails to 5,000 students wednesday. but the students were actually on a list of applications who had not been fully reviewed. a few hours later, a correction email was sent out. the students are still being considered for acceptance. one of the new casinos built in upstate new york hits a new milestone today. a ceremony will be held as workers placed the final steel beam in schenectady. the $330 million project includes a gaming floor, with slot machines and tables, as well as a banquet facility, and a hotel. it's expected to open early next year. pennsylvania joins the growing list of states legalizing medical marijuana. tom wolf signed a bill, allowing dispensaries to sell pot to people suffering from serious medical conditions.

discussion and that's when he noticed a woman looking at him. >> they degrated me as a human. and i believe they thought i was a terrorist. they listened to her and pulled me out. there should be a procedure. >> he was questioned by security, and the fbi for 40 minutes. southwest says it would not remove a passenger without making a decision rooted in what they call an established procedure. the passenger says he wants an apology if nothing else. johnny depp and his wife amber herd are apologizing for their dog smuggling spat with australia. herd avoided jail time after pleading guilty to a lesser charge. she was sentenced to a 1 month good behavior bond, meaning she will have to pay a fine if she commits any offenses in australia over the next moment. depp was never charged in the case. this is tax deadline day

friday night, astronomical. his foul ball flies into the stands, in between the protective netting, hitting a 63-year-old woman in the left eye. the game stalls as the woman is visibly distraught. he even walks into the stands to check on her. >> that woman is way more important than whatever i do in the game. >> reporter: last year, a woman left in a neck brace after a fall ball hit her in the head. in fenway park last june, one woman was seriously injured after a bat flies into the stands. just one month later, one woman was hit square in the face by a foul ball. >> it reflects that i couldn't have been looking more flushly at what was going on. >> reporter: following last

league baseball suggested that stadiums have protective netting between the dugouts for any field level seats within 70 feet of home plate to increase fan safety. that's something the rays did at the beginning of the season, but in these pictures taken by a tampa bay times reporter, you can see the gap friday night's ball shot through. by saturday night, an extra piece of protective netting was installed to close the space. >> even netting, which is clearly the next good step that baseball has taken here, even netting is not a cure all in all cases. >> reporter: the tampa bay rays released a statement, saying their thoughts are with the fan and her family. sousa, by the way says he plans to visit that woman in the hospital as soon as it's possible. lindsay davis, abc news, new york. tenants of a queens apartment building got a slightry start to their sunday after they spotted a 7-foot

falling a little bit. but still, it's at 30.22, which is a mark of fair weather. 74 you get toward middletown and toward poughkeepsie. these numbers are going to be warm. you notice the coastal numbers are going to be cool, that's because the water temperature is about 50 degrees at long island sound. the wind is coming out of the northeast a bit to the north. we've been seeing winds coming in at 3, to 13, to 12 miles per hour, and coming all over the place for the afternoon. the front we're talking about is here. it comes north-south like this. that's called a backdoor cold front. the majority of our weather comes to the northeast. it looks like the temperature gets to about 77, to 78, to 80 degrees. here comes the front tonight. you see it comes through virtually dry. 6:00a.m., on the guidance,

here on the border. you see the sun is back out by 10:00. the temperatures will be cooler tomorrow. maybe in the upper 60s, to near 70. we're going to start off the day in the low to mid-40s. we should warm up nicely to 70 degrees, as we go into wednesday. we're looking at an unusually warm day. here comes the front, sliding through the area to the south. that will allow cooler air to come out of canada. it will also start to warm up that air mass. plenty of sunshine and warm. it will be closer to 70 along the coast. partly cloudy tonight. a nice night. 56. overnight, here comes cooler air. breezy too. the wind will be out of the northwest. it will kind of feel like the 60s, a really springy day. 67. it will be 72 on thursday with clouds increasing from the next system coming in on friday, and give us a few spotty showers around.
