sometimes they come down at 100 miles an hour and do more than just smash a windshield. it will hurt you in a hurry. look at this video out of valencia. 50-mile-an-hour winds taking this canopy and flipping it around. some of those dynamics will feed the system in the plains. look at the swath of severe weather we expect from the texas/oklahoma border up to southern nebraska where we see the greatest threat tore tornadoes and austin, as well. huge threat. this does push off to the east. and some of these tornadoes will continue overnight at lesion until the dark time. that's when it will be dangerous. less of a threat tomorrow but into more populated areas. we're in norman, oklahoma, inside that building, the storm prediction center, the brightest minds in tornado forecasting no doubt will be busy today. robin. >> thank you. to you to the big day in the race for the white house. five states up for grabs. pennsylvania, the biggest prize, the big news in the republican race, ted cruz and john kasich banding together to try and stop donald trump.

abc's tom llamas is at a polling place in pennsylvania. good morning, tom. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you. the voting now under way here in pennsylvania. and a first for the trump complain. trump handing out these delegate slate, the trump delegates that will support him at the convention. so now the trump campaign wants to make sure they not only win the voting here but also win the support they need at the convention. >> who's going to vote for trump? >> reporter: this morning, donald trump eyeing a clean sweep of five states voting today. but still bitter about the cruz/kasich alliance. >> lyin' ted announced that he can't win by himself. he cannot do it. you know, he's a joker. >> reporter: the front-runner going after his republican rivals after senator ted cruz and governor john kasich announced they'd stay out of each other's way in certain primaries. to beat the billionaire. trump calling it collusion, upset over that and apparently kasich's eating habits.

cruz predicting his campaign picks up steam in upcoming western primaries. >> and the final state to vote will be the state of california. 172 delegates. the big enchilada. i believe we'll do very well in california. >> reporter: now this morning, apparently there is peace in one of the biggest fights this campaign season, donald trump agreeing to sit down with megyn kelly tore a special interview that airs in mid-may. the two's first interview since the famous exchange in the first presidential debate. >> thanks very much. to the democrats now. and their front-runner, hillary clinton, hoping to put away the challenge from bernie sanders with a strong showing today. the big prize of pennsylvania is key and abc's david wright is on the scene in philadelphia right now. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, george. we're at a union headquarters, the american federation of teachers and just for today as you can see it is a hub of hillary clinton's get out the vote machine. union workers, teachers in this case, picking up voter lists,

and get people to the polls. with their help she's expecting a big win today. closing out her campaign here at philadelphia's city hall, hillary clinton was brimming with confidence. >> look, i have the greatest respect for senator sanders but really what he and his supporters are now saying just doesn't add up. i have 2.7 million more votes than he has. >> reporter: just outside -- >> feel the bern. >> reporter: busloads of bernie supporters intent on crashing the party. clinton is favored to win all five of the states voting today, virtually shutting down any pathway to victory for bernie sanders. but sanders is vowing to fight on. >> he's going to participate in every primary and caucus tilling the end. >> reporter: already he sounds like he sees the end in sight. >> i will do everything in my power to make sure that no republican gets into the white house in this election. >> reporter: clinton is already

sharpest jabs for the republicans. >> actually i think when you run for president you should tell people what you want to do. you shouldn't make promises you can't keep. you shouldn't just, you know, rant and rave with the trump-like demagoguery. >> reporter: already out on the stump you can hear clinton reaching out to those sanders supporters talking about the minimum wage, talking about rolling back citizens united hoping to win that them over to her cause. robin. >> all right, david, thank you. let's look at the road ahead for the candidates. jon karl is here in the studio to break it down. the all-important delegate count. jon, let's -- start with the republicans. >> reporter: well, robin, donald trump is already closing in on the 1,237 he needs to win. if you look at the states voting today, these are the ones in dark red, they represent 172 delegates combined. that's as much as the state of california and trump is poised to win the majority of them which is why you see this deal

going to concentrate on the state of indiana which votes next week and is shaping up as a do or die primary for those wanting to stop trump. >> so what about the numbers for the democrats, jon? >> well, hillary clinton is even closer to getting the delegates she needs to win and if you look at the states for the democrats today, five states, four of them are closed primaries. that means independents cannot vote and bernie sanders has done very well with independents, in fact, he has not won a single closed primary so far. >> all right, jon, thank you. >> let's talk to bernie sanders right now. he joins us from philadelphia this morning. thank you for joining us. right now you heard jon karl right there. you've had some tougher luck in these closed all democratic primaries. can you pull off a miracle in pennsylvania today? >> i think we can. i think we're going to do very well in all five states and i think the reason, george, is our message is resonating. you know, when we begin this campaign we were 60 points behind hillary clinton, some recent national polls have us ahead of her.

trump in almost every instance we are having a higher margin of defeating trump than is hillary clinton. so we are feeling good. we won 16 states already. i think we're going to have a chance to win pore today and out west where i think we have a very good chance to win the largest state in this country, california. >> but hillary clinton is most likely to be about 90% of the way there on delegates after tonight. you and i talked on sunday and i asked you if you would do for her what she did for president obama back in 2008 after she lost she campaigned hard for him. you said that was totally dependent upon what the clinton platform is. secretary clinton responded last night. listening. >> and i did not put down conditions. i didn't say, you know what, if senator obama does x, y and z maybe i'll support him. i said, i am supporting senator obama because no matter what our differences might be, they pale in comparison to the differences

>> are you prepared to give her your unconditional support if she gets the delegates? >> well, george, george, i don't want to break the bad news to you, but the election is not over yet. we are here today competing in five states. we have ten more states to go after this and we're going to do the best that we can to bring our message that, in fact, it is too late for establishment politics and economics. i have been all over this country and been in inner cities where youth unemployment is 40%, 50% with childhood unemployment is off the charts where we are seeing incredible disparities between the rich and everybody else. where we're the only country on earth, major country, doesn't guarantee health care to all of our people or paid family and medical leave. i'm going to give every person in this country the right to decide who is going to be president of the united states, what the agenda is of the democratic party. that's what our campaign is about, talking real issues, not

will happen when it will happen but let me repeat. i intend to do everything i can if i am not the nominee to make sure some republican does not sit in the white house, but for the moment, we're going to fight all the way to the philadelphia convention and we're going to wing as many delegates as we can and we believe we do have a path toward victory. >> all the way to the convention. it seems like a change when you said you'd fight through california. even if she has the delegates after california you'll keep on fighting? >> we are going to fight through happens. here's one of the important points, george, to be made. and you correct me if i'm wrong on this, every national poll and every statewide poll that i have seen has bernie sanders doing significantly better against donald trump than is hillary clinton. is that right? i think that is right and i think -- >> secretary clinton said she's gotten 2.7 more million votes than you have. >> well, first of all she is not

states but the point is, in virtually every national poll and in every statewide poll bernie sanders versus donald trump does significantly better than hillary clinton versus donald trump and that is true for other republican candidates, as well. the bottom line is we have a message that is resonating not only with democrats but with independents, as well. and we are handicapped. i think we'll do fine today. we know what the rules are and we'll fight for every vote we can get in pennsylvania, connecticut, et cetera. but, in fact, in these states independents can't vote. we do a lot better with independents than hillary clinton does, guess what, independents do vote in the general election. >> senator sanders, thanks for joining us this morning. >> thank you. >> robin. >> we'll see what happens in the five primaries. now to the latest development in deflategate. a judge ruling that the patriots quarterback tom brady will have to sit out the first four games of next season after all. abc's linsey davis has the latest.

>> reporter: it goss on and on, good morning to you, robin. yes, tom brady's four-game suspension is back in play but there are still a number of questions like will he appeal? will the nfl still enforce the full suspension? one thing that's clear, deflategate is not going anywhere any time soon. just when you thought it was over, deflategate is back in the headlines with all-star quarterback tom brady's playing status once again on the line. >> touchdown. >> reporter: on monday a federal appeals court ruled in favor of the nfl. reinstating the new england patriots quarterback's original four-game suspension imposed by nfl commissioner roger goodell last may. the court saying goodell properly exercised his broad discretion and did not deprive brady of fundamental fairness. donald trump disagrees. >> leave tom brady alone. >> this decision basically says that roger goodell has the power to do what the union told him he could do.

suspended brady for four games after an independent investigator found it more probable than not that brady was allegedly involved with patriots staff in an alleged scheme to take air out of new england's footballs to presumably make them easier to catch during this afc championship game against the indianapolis colts. >> i didn't alter the ball in any way. >> reporter: brady repeatedly denied any involvement in the alleged scheme and he took his case to court where his suspension was overturned. on monday, the nfl said it was pleased with the outcome of the hearing but the nfl players association expressed disappointment saying our union will carefully review the decision, consider all of our options and continue to fight for players' rights. now, goodell has said from the beginning this case isn't just about brady but it's about enforcing the nfl's rights in the collective bargaining agreement. now, brady could still appeal this latest decision and take it all the way to the supreme court. robin. >> we'll see if he does. all right, linsey, thank you. now to amy with the morning's other headlines beginning with news out of north carolina. >> that's right.

being watched closely across the country. a federal judge has upheld a controversial viter identification law in north carolina. the law requires a photo i.d. to vote. it also prohibits same day registration and voting. supporters including the republican governor say it will reduce voter fraud, critics argue it unfairly burdens minorities. the judge said opponents failed to show that and an appeal is expected. al qaeda claimed responsibility for the murder of a gay rights activist who worked at the u.s. embassy in bangladesh. mannan and a friend were stabbed monday. an al qaeda group claims they were targeted for promoting homosexuality. the head of new york's september 11th memorial has now apologized to a group of middle school chorus students who were ordered to stop singing the national anthem at the site. a security guard ordered them to cease and desist because they didn't have a permit to perform.

>> what does brody do. >> he goes, eeh. >> thank you, amy. we have breaking news overnight, a bear holding a california neighborhood captive leading authorities on a wild chase tracking him down. take a look. the standoff began at 8 p.m. at los angeles mission college where students spotted a four-legged furry brown intruder. within minutes police officers, firefighters, animal control officers were all on a wild chase but the 125-pound bear was un undeterred as he climbed over this fence scrambling to catch his footing. the television news crews scatter. for two hours the year and a half old bear scaled walls, hid behind cars and virginia trersed fences and alleys before ending up in this selmar neighborhood. >> i called the neighbor and said hope your dogs are inside. we heard noise and i walked outside and saw the bear walking past the back door.

in that chilling murder of a fitness instructor at a texas church. the suspect seen on that surveillance tape dressed in swath gear and the victim's family is now speaking out. abc's ryan smith has the latest. good morning, ryan. >> reporter: good morning, george. you know, you talk about missy bevers, the mother of three, killed but at the same time her family now coming forward speaking out asking those who know the killer to please come forward and turn that person in. was this masked murderer caught on camera ominously dressed in tactical gear targeting fitness instructor missy bevers? this morning as the manhunt intensifies her family says they believe it just wasn't a tragic case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. bevers' mother-in-law, marsha tucker says she believes the killer may have tracked the fitness instructor's movement on social media. >> the person probably knew by looking at her facebook just

showed her other boot campers, you know, what time the classes started, whoever knew she gets there early, they got there earlier. >> reporter: the 45-year-old was last seen entering this church at 4:20 a.m. on april 18th. setting up for a boot camp class. the suspected killer caught on surveillance video at 3:50 a.m. dressed head to toe in police s.w.a.t. gear. students for her 5:00 a.m. class discovering her murder. >> i can't tell whether the person is a man or woman. the police estimate the person is six foot tall but if you look at the mannerisms, how they walk, there's something distinctive there. somebody has to be able to point this out. >> reporter: but more than a week later, police aren't releasing any new leads or motives. the beloved wife and mother laid to rest on saturday. her family pleads for the killer to come forward. tucker writing him or her an open letter on facebook. >> you know who you are.

members know who you are. they know by your special walk. give some honor back to your family. god will forgive you and we will forgive you. >> now, marsha says that missy's daughters are doing better than expected. but that they're asking her how long they will be sad. she hasn't heard from police but she says she trusts them to do their job. as for the killer she says the anger is still there but that the family will, quote, forgive them in time. >> got to be hard, though. okay, ryan, thanks very much. >> thank you. now to a fiery plane crash in florida. it smashed into a home shortly after takeoff bursting into flames and the desperate race against time to save the people caught inside. abc's david kerley all the details for us, good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the story of survival and those three fighting for their lives facing significant burns on their bodies. as you mentioned, the crash right after takeoff. this morning investigators trying to determine why it crashed.

>> you got a totally engulfed house. >> reporter: a small plane at the center. >> aircraft crash, i'm being advised per the tower it's a half mile just east. >> as soon as i turned there was a fireball then it was just a huge amount of black smoke. >> reporter: first responders rushing to find survivors. >> we have three patients, all patients are alive. >> reporter: one of those ejected from the plane, two others walking away with the help of residents who braved the flames. >> i need you to handle the three patients real quick. >> copy. >> reporter: someone was at home in the house with the roof on fire but escaped. >> when the plane hit his house it bounced over one house and ended up in the yard of the next house. so obviously there were some very fortunate people. >> reporter: the faa says the twin engine plane was practicing takeoffs and landing at the pompano airport going down a half mile from the runway. it's unclear whether it was a private plane or a flight school aircraft. >> did you see what happened? >> yeah, i saw it.

>> reporter: this suggests the beechcraft duchess 2340esed up too much or lost an engine then plugged toward the ground. there are more accidents and deaths involving small planes in the u.s. every year, nearly four accidents every day, more than 260 deaths a year. now, those three survivors were burned over 30% to 40% of their bodies and are undergoing treatment this morning. both the ntsb and the faa are investigating the accident. george and robin. >> okay, david, thanks very much. and now dramatic rescue caught on camera when a hero leapt into action to save a teen pinned under his truck. abc's kayna whitworth has the story. >> reporter: this terrifying surveillance footage shows the moment 17-year-old cameron king's 6,000-pound truck fell right on his head. he had been working underneath when the jack tipped over. >> the whole car just collapsed and i was supporting as much as i could with my neck and shoulders. >> reporter: cameron flailing his airports and yelling for help.
