the vicious attack caught on tape. >> an endless barrage of the blows to the head, the never- ending hail of punches and kicks, the violent attack recorded on the cell phone and caught on security camera. the exclusive footage obtained by eyewitness news. helplessly lying on their back on east broadway being beaten to a pulse. >> the victim is too afraid to show his face. >> and i told you, you know, that i don't have a chance to look back on their tape that it is even scarier. >> this is an exclusive video from inside that restaurant showing the moments before the attack. the victim says that the suspect was sexually harassing one of their employee employees and was told to leave, but he did not go quietly. threatening employees at first and then punching the wall leaving this dent. speaking through an interpreter, the victim says he followed that man outside. and because he spotted who he thought were cops. but they were traffic agents. >> i was expecting the three uniform officers to just pull

>> reporter: instead the victim kept getting pummeled. they did radio for help and moments later cops arrested the suspect. 393-year-old montrose gomez. some say there is a disturbing trend. the concern that americans are easy targets. >> if you call up a chinese take out restaurant and you order food and when they deliver it to your lobby, the delivery man is attacked and robbed because the chinese delivery man, they know that they have a language difficulty. now you're targeting asians. that it is a combination of people that are feeling like asian americans are easier targets. asian americans are not reporting the crimes when they get targeted. >> meanwhile they could sometimes take several minutes for victims of the language barrier to get the right help from 911. but the assemblyman says that mayor bill de blasio. >> we want to make sure that they have resources in terms of the language barrier to make sure that every person who will need help speaking mandarin

to wait 10 minutes to speak to someone. >> reporter: as for the victim he is left with bruises all over his body. those injuries will eventually heal like logical scars though they will be permanent. two police officers are recovering tonight after crashing their cruiser. now we're learning that it might be due to a rob rhode island we're told that the officers were attempting to pull over a car in harlem, but that the vehicle took off, which then lead to the collision. now, sources tell eyewitness new that the vehicle fit the description of the robbery earlier this afternoon and that they are now in custody and the two officers, they were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. ny cop tonight was found guilty of the assault. that they went too far. and a key piece of evidence. a video of the vicious confrontation between the officer and the suspect who was restrained and no threat. eyewitness news reporter at the courthouse downtown brooklyn with us. no worries. >> reporter: there wasn't much of a chance to mount that good

clear and it is graphic and now police officer joel edward faces as much as a year in jail. >> the judge spoke quietly, but has been seemed moved by the video. >> it was a difficult situation, but that he would stop on the head of the man being restrained by the other police. >> and a cell phone video that clearly shows them in that control of police officers on the ground. in handcuffs when then police officer joel edwards steps over and stops on his head. another officer appears to push edward away. >> the kick occurred while he was lying on the belly under the control of the other police officers. it was a sudden and gratuitous kick that appears to have actually interfered with the other officers actions. >> he was left bloodied by the kick. he acknowledges though that he was resisting the officers. >> i regret that for what happened. >> reporter: whatever he was doing that he did not deserve this.

that day and i don't know what caused him to do all the things that he did. >> reporter: and the assault conviction, it is a misdemeanor, and so officially edward, he is suspended from the nypd without pay. that he will be sentenced here in court in brooklyn and in june on june 10. reporting live from downtown brooklyn, jim dolan channel 7 eyewitness news. >> jim, thank you. a new york mayor is insisting that he has done nothing wrong and nothing that others haven't done. all of this in reaction to the state and the federal investigations. into the mayor's fundraising that it is not unusual to raise money to help other politicians get elected. controlling where the money goes, and that is the big issue. dave evans is digging deeper, tonight joining us live. >> reporter: the law is very specific. a senate candidate could accept the donation of up to 10,300. but the committee could take in 103,000. lots of politicians, they get around that law with a wink and a nod as they take the money and refunnel it to candidates.

nateing for the specific candidates, the specific contributions, and using the committee simply as a straw donor. that's what the mayor and his team allegedly did. >> reporter: the mayor claims that there is a double standard that just like him, they raise money for others. but he is in and out one being investigated. and he thinks that it will be unfair. >> if we specifically followed every step along the way, the legal guidance, and that we did what the other mayors and the other leaders have done for years and years under the laws of this state. following the letter and the spirit of the law. well that is how we are suppose to report ourselves. >> reporter: the de blasio supporters claim that mayor bloomberg did the same donating half a million to the state's republican party. that money in turn went favorite candidates. but did de blasio do exactly the same? well so far experts are saying no. that they say that de blasio, that it works. >> the charges that he has done something different from what

he has raised specific money for specific candidate and political committee. >> reporter: with bloomberg, he supposedly didn't know exactly where his donations were going. and the allegation is that mayor de blasio did. that 27-page memo alleges the mayor and his team knew exactly what they were doing. and how they were circumventing contribution limits. and gets specific democrats elected to the state's senate. >> from their very beginning where it was raised that they knew that it would be a specific candidate. >> that is illegal. >> that is illegal. >> but they contend that they have done nothing wrong and even hinted maybe the governor would help release that secret memo. >> how a state board of election officials would single us out, apparently not understanding how the state election law works and that they would need to leak their documents to the media, which in and of itself, that it might be a violation of the law and

we have a cloudy evening, and to give you a sample of what the forecast models are showing me. one of the tools that we use with a very light rainfall. and from now until 7:00 in the morning that i want to show you what they are doing throughout the day on sunday, which is some higher amounts. maybe we'll need to push half an inch of rain in a couple of spots on sunday, the raw rainy day. there were a couple on the lens here with a slow go inbound right now. we're at 52 with the northeast wind at 7 and the pressure is on the rise and the high in the upper 50s. they look like this. rain and drizzle this evening. far couple hours that will get into the northern suburbs. we'll show you that in the future cast and a 50/50 forecast. that we want to stress that it will be the outdoor activity for the raw day on sunday that you might be able to see them temper. the worst of it through late afternoon. lower 50s right now, a couple

north and east today, but the clouds will dominate. and after 8:00 or 9:00 there could be a period of a couple of hours to get steady. after midnight, the showers are starting to move out. clouds could break by morning. a little chillier in the morning with a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow. but some places are mostly sunny and cloudy and it averages partly sunny, i'll show you where that is in a couple of seconds, over to ridgefield right now with that light shower that will be breaking apart trying to come into new york city or getting into the island, not much luck. just some spring -- just some sprinkles. it looks like they will be pushing off to the north. but the core of it is right here, starting to slip down to the south traveling along i- 850. and could get into new york city for a period and leave after midnight. after that, we've got the window where it will be dry during the day tomorrow until a
