enjoying a bit of a bump from this convention if you look at a couple of polls from last week in the all important swing state of pennsylvania, it was essentially tied last week, but a new poll out today shows hillary clinton is now nine points ahead of trump. >> reporter: thank you, dave. this was a thrilling moment not only for hillary clinton, but for her daughter chelsea who introduced her mother before she accepted the party's nomination. mrs. clinton tweeting out this picture tonight wa from backstage. chelsea who may make history herself becoming the daughter of two presidents shared deeply personal and moving stories of her mother, all this in hopes of reshaping negative perceptions of her mother. it is through soul that she wants the electorate to see the woman who means the world to her, who love her, raised her, helped nurture her to become the woman she is today. >> she's a listener and a doer.

the white house. donald trump urged supporters tonight not to watch hillary clinton's speech in a campaign fundraising e-mail. trump also held a campaign rally tonight in iowa and told the crowd there that the democrats told a lot of lies about him during their convention but said, "i guess they have to do their thing." trump also criticized democrats about talking about terrorizing relaying on a plan to aid the economy. now to the powerful storm arriving overnight. meteorologist lee goldberg is at the weather wall. >> the heart of this storm is at the morning commute arriving in a few hours. umbrellas coming out for those watching the speeches outside our studios. the rain is getting a little steadier now and you can see what's happening, light to moderate rain, a couple heavy pockets in the mid-hudson valley and all the

we're seeing radar fill in closer to home. might be some lighter rainfall amounts to the west, but we are down pours for the morning commute. it does move out in a hurry later in the morning. drenching downpours from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. rainfall rates potentially 1 to 2 inches an hour, street and highway flooding and reduced visibility in the heavy downpours. i'll have more on the timing and the weekend accuweather forecast in a few minutes. >> lee and his team will keep track of the storms and possible flooding problems throughout the night.

time on the abc7ny app on your smartphone. new york city agreed to take $2.7 million to the family of avonte oquendo, a teenager with autism who disappeared and later died. back in 2013 oquendo ran out of his school in queens sparking a massive search. investigators discovered his body on a beach three months later. his mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming the school safety officers did not do enough to superve and robbed a woman. now police in connecticut hope surveillance video helps find them. that video shows the dark dodge minivan the thieves used during the robbery. it happened tuesday in stanford. the victim told police four people, possibly two men, two women threatened her with a handgun, forced her to withdraw money from her bank and her home. police are also looking for two armed thieves in new york responsible for a violent robbery at a business in williamsburg.

>> reporter: george pew lives in the men's healther and may very well have saved lives with his quick work yesterday. mr. pew was hanging out at the port authority in manhattan yesterday talking to this man of groveland florida, hunter lee taylor waiting to board a bus headed to boston, but when two port authority police officers walked by, taylor allegedly made reference to shooting the police officers and even showed .38 caliber handgun. pugh walked away and told police who with hollowed .38 point bullets. taylor is wanted in florida and was held on $250,000 cash bond. he is just 18 years old. mr. pugh did not come back to the shelter tonight. some who know him say he does not even own a phone, but he

who believe he may well have saved lives. in bed-stuy, jim dough alan, channel -- jim dolan, channel 7 eyewitness news. a person playing pokemon go also came upon a huge pile of cash. the player found $2,000 at a poke stop and made the honorable decision to call them and then report it. around the same time the person who lost that money reported it missing and police were able to to its rightful owner. they were in the middle of committing a crime and that's when a group of thieves saved a dog's life, four men smashing the window of a parked truck stealing a laptop and giving the dog trapped inside a way to escape the heat. a nearby business owner whose security cameras captured the crime near chicago said the dog was in the truck about 20 minutes.

that. i'm meteorologist lee goldberg, a look at the george washington bridge moving pretty slowly now, not weather related, but it will be tomorrow morning. 77 for the overnight low. we hit 95 today. that was our last day with any extreme heat around the area for a while, average high 84 and there are your sunrise and sunset times for friday. sunrise a tough go, sunset not so much. at least this is moving out early. if you look at the window for showers and heavy thunderstorms and drenching down when we start to see sunshine breaking out not too long after lunchtime. lighter rains have started to move. in we've had big time thunderstorms to our south and severe weather. what's happening is low pressure is developing here off the virginia coast and this area of rain is starting to get a little more enhanced. there's been some question as to whether it's going to reach up into our area, but i do think heavy rains will develop after 3 a.m. or so and move into the heart of the area probably after 4 or
