flowers from her funeral held yesterday. the 30-year-old avid runner went for a jog tuesday evening inside spring creek park. her dad got worried when she didn't return home, called police and along with detectives found karina's lifeless body in the tall grass. even though she did put up a fight, police say she was strangled, severely beaten and sexually assaulted. the nypd is working this case around the clock. karina's father thanked all of that. cathy called karina's killer a coward. she looked directly into the tv cameras saying to the suspect karina was a big believer in karma guaranteeing that whoever did this, that he or she will pay for this forever. >> whether you're one, whether you're 10, i'm going to just use singular. but i'm here to remind you in case you don't already know

an officer's forearm. it says two officers were assaulted by an inmate who got out of his cell early this morning when his door was open to retrieve his meal tray. a scalpel blade was recovered from that scene. on eyewitness news at 11:00 we will hear from the president of the officers union. police are investigating an attack on the subway as a possible hate crime. investigators say the attacker made anti-gay remarks as he stabbed a man several times on in morningside heights last night around 7:30 at the 110th street and broadway station. the victim was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition. police are still looking for his assailant. a major announcement in major league baseball, alex rodriguez will play his final game next friday with the new york yankees, but he isn't saying good-bye to the pin stripes just yet. we have team coverage of the big announcement and the reaction from fans.

car. nassau county police arrested 32-year-old stephanie quezada after 3:00 this morning on the lie in north hills. officers pulled her over when they saw her driving erratically. she is automatically charged with felony dui because a child under 15 years old was in the vehicle. we have new details tonight in that collapse during the and khalifa concert. the person injured suffered an upper body injury in friday night's collapse at the pavilion in camden. 40 people were hurt. most of the injuries were minor. it's not clear what caused the railing to give way. a new abc news poll shows hillary clinton gaining ground over her rival donald trump,

everyone. i'm joe torres. >> i'm sandra bookman. a 79-year-old man is dead in westchester county after someone shot him in the shoulder. >> but he may not have been the intended target. eyewitness news reporter stephon kim has the details in new rochelle tonight. >> reporter: that gunman fired a shot from that direction striking 71-year-old manuel eye -- manuel ayala doing what he loved most, spending time with children. >> it hurts to lose a guy that we love. we hope the person who did it has to pay for whatever he did. >> reporter: an emotional daniel ayala overcome by the loss of his grandfather 79-year- old manuel ayala seen in this photo with his wife. police believe he was not the intended target. around 11:15 last night at the

when things suddenly turned violent. this is surveillance video of ayala sitting on a milk crate in front of the deli moments before he was shot. you can see him wearing a white hat. he was shot in the shoulder. juan castillo was working in the deli when he heard two shots and he's angry someone could do this with so many young children standing on the corner. >> there's a lot of kids right there, more than five kids right there. was friendly and full of life. he arrived from mexico four months ago to be closer to his family, 12 kids in new rochelle and lots of grandchildren. >> we used to get together. every time i used to go to mexico, we'd get along, talk like father to son. but it's really hard, ask my father, that he lost his dad.

this growing memorial, we can tell you police believe the intended target was a group of young men who were also standing on this corner at that time. there have been no arrests made at this time. stephon kim in new rochelle, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. in ohio a deadly police involved shooting. the man was robbing a grocery store in cincinnati this morning and threatened a security guard way knife before fleeing. officers tracked the -- with a knife before fleeing. officers t where he pulled out the knife again and police fatally shot him. eyewitnesses describe the man as homeless and say he appeared drunk. in wisconsin a sheriff's deputy fatally shot a man with mental health issues. the man walked onto a balcony and pulled out a gun. authorities say he was waving the weapon around and began firing shots. the deputy reportedly fired once killing the man. that deputy is now on administrative leave while the

very safe vaccine. it's a vaccine every parent should make sure their children get vaccinated for and it's not going to be perfect at the same time and it will be less perfect the more people don't take advantage of this vaccine. >> reporter: stacey sager, channel 7 eyewitness news. a policy proposal is sparking controversy in a north carolina school district. the district is recommending schools stop refusing to students as boys and girls. it's part of an effort to support transgender students. for example, students would be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities and overnight field trips based on their gender identity. critics call the proposal radical and a violence of privacy. hundreds of people marked the anniversary of a major civil rights march in chicago by retracing that very same

drinking coffee or doing your makeup while driving could soon cost drivers a whole lot of money. a controversial new bill that calls for hefty fines and even a driver's license suspension is making its way through the

jersey. here's anthony johnson. >> reporter: we're not just talking about drinking coffee and driving, but some motorists pay more attention to pouring sugar and cream in the cup than keeping their hands on the steering wheel. the goal of this proposal is to crack down on motorists who multitask. >> you should be concentrating on the road regardless, not on your phone. you shouldn't be eating and driving. you should be driving because you're putting yourself and others at risk. >> reporter: eric admits his car serves as an office on wheels and talking on the phone and using a >> i've noticed when i've done a few things, tried to multitask, i'm obviously not paying as close attention to the road as i should. >> reporter: according to government statistics, in 2014 there were distracted driver accidents which resulted in 3,000 deaths. >> there are 3,000 people who didn't make it home for reasons entirely preventible and those reasons are keeping your eyes
