remains a mystery, but one day after her funeral her parents made it clear. they won't stop their quest for justice until her killer is behind bars. >> eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in howard beach. >> reporter: she took off her sunglasses and cathy vetrano delivered a blistering message that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up directed at whoever killed her daughter karina. the gist? you can run, but you cannot hide. to address the coward. >> reporter: whoever killed her daughter karina for the first time since the brutal murder, the vetranos spoke with reporters outside of their home, . karina just 30 years old went for a job in spring creek park. when she didn't return home, her father got worried, called police and with detectives

tall grass. the avid runner tried to fight off her attacker, but was strangled, severely beaten and assaulted. it's been an around the clock operation with detectives trying to track down the suspect. with nerves of steel cathy sent this message to karina's killer. >> you know that my daughter was a force to be reckoned with and i guarantee you that you will be reckoning with that for the rest of eternity as you [ bleep ] burn in hell. >> reporter: phillip told reporters he believes justice will be served. hundreds gathered for karina's funeral yesterday. flowers from the service now stand in the front yard. >> 11 was her favorite number. she loved butterflies. she loved rainbows. >> reporter: this arrangement, her two best friends explain. >> the three of us together were an unstoppable force. we were a triple threat.

officer's benevolent association released this photo of a deep cut to the officer's forearm. two officers were assaulted by an inmate who got out of his cell early this morning while his door was open so his meal tray could be retrieved. officers recovered a scalpel blade from the scene. on eyewitness news at 11:00 tonight we'll hear from the president of the officers union. this week will be the last time yankees star alex rodriguez takes the field as a player. he announced today that he will but he is not leaving the team. the yankees announced a new role for the slugger next season. we have two reports on this surprising announcement tonight. we start with sports paniccor laura behnke at -- anchor laura behnke at yankee stadium.

an attack on the subway is now investigated as a possible hate crime. police say the attacker made anti-gay remarks as he stabbed the man several times on a northbound one train on morningside heights last night around 7:30 at the 110th street and broadway station. the victim was transported to the hospital.
