remains a mystery, but one day after her funeral her parents made it clear. they won't stop their quest for justice until her killer is behind bars. >> eyewitness news reporter kemberly richardson is in howard beach. >> reporter: she took off her sunglasses and cathy vetrano delivered a blistering message that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up directed at whoever killed her daughter karina. the gist? you can run, but you cannot hide. to address the coward. >> reporter: whoever killed her daughter karina for the first time since the brutal murder, the vetranos spoke with reporters outside of their home, . karina just 30 years old went for a job in spring creek park. when she didn't return home, her father got worried, called police and with detectives

tall grass. the avid runner tried to fight off her attacker, but was strangled, severely beaten and assaulted. it's been an around the clock operation with detectives trying to track down the suspect. with nerves of steel cathy sent this message to karina's killer. >> you know that my daughter was a force to be reckoned with and i guarantee you that you will be reckoning with that for the rest of eternity as you [ bleep ] burn in hell. >> reporter: phillip told reporters he believes justice will be served. hundreds gathered for karina's funeral yesterday. flowers from the service now stand in the front yard. >> 11 was her favorite number. she loved butterflies. she loved rainbows. >> reporter: this arrangement, her two best friends explain. >> the three of us together were an unstoppable force. we were a triple threat.

officer's benevolent association released this photo of a deep cut to the officer's forearm. two officers were assaulted by an inmate who got out of his cell early this morning while his door was open so his meal tray could be retrieved. officers recovered a scalpel blade from the scene. on eyewitness news at 11:00 tonight we'll hear from the president of the officers union. this week will be the last time yankees star alex rodriguez takes the field as a player. he announced today that he will but he is not leaving the team. the yankees announced a new role for the slugger next season. we have two reports on this surprising announcement tonight. we start with sports paniccor laura behnke at -- anchor laura behnke at yankee stadium.

live outside of yankees stadium mallory hoff, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. investigators believe a 79- year-old grandfather shot to death last night in new rochelle was not the intended target. manuel ayala seen in a photo here with his wife was struck in the shoulder by a bullet outside a deli at the corner every third street and union avenue -- corner of third street and union avenue. surveillance video shows him sitting on a milk crate moments before he was shot. he moved here from be closer to his family. >> it hurts to miss a guy that we love. i hope the person that did it has to pay whatever he did. >> police believe the intended target was a group of young man also standing on the corner at the time. no arrests have been made yet. in the campaign for president hillary clinton leads donald trump the new abc news washington post poll. 50% of 1,000 people surveyed

an attack on the subway is now investigated as a possible hate crime. police say the attacker made anti-gay remarks as he stabbed the man several times on a northbound one train on morningside heights last night around 7:30 at the 110th street and broadway station. the victim was transported to the hospital.

with sexually assaulting a woman after breaking into a home in the hamptons friday morning in southampton. a 19-year-old woman was choked and sexually assaulted before she escaped and ran outside as her attacker chased her with a baseball bat. 20-year-old marvin nunez was arrested not far from the home. a call tonight for congress to return from its summer recess for just one day to take ve in the fight against the zika virus. senator charles schumer says ongoing work on a vaccine could be jeopardized unless lawmakers vote soon to approve a nearly $2 billion emergency zika funding bill, but congress is not scheduled to reconvene until next month. >> we are on the verge of finding a vaccine to stop zika and because congress is derelict in its duty, we're not going to get that vaccine for a

bruce striking out anibal sanchez, but this blast to second gave the mets a 1-0 lead. ian kinsler gets an infield hit that scores justin upton and the game is tied at this point. now we move to the top of the 9th. former met k-rod on the mound, but k-rod gives up his two-run big blast to neil walker. the lead. familia closes it out. mets take the final game today, 3-1. joe, jim furyk is one of the only players to shoot a 59 in pga tour competition, but he bettered that today. now he's the very first player to shoot a 58. furyk one upped himself today in the final round of the travelers championship and closed out the front 9 with four consecutive birdies and topped it off with another on 18 to make tour history today.
