for the feels-like temperature. i think sunday we're right in the same spot. we really don't see a lot of relief coming in. monday we'll take the temperatures down still muggy, though. this is a look into the battery. we can see the empire state building and one world trade. for the excessive heat warning, the hottest locations, like i say, they feel like 110 degrees because it's the actual thermometer readings plus the humidity combination that makes the thunderstorms bring heavy rain, downpours, dangerous lightning in some cases, too. right now, no storms are on the maps. looking at the radar, it's just clouds to contend with. it's a combination of the daytime feels-like temperatures. i mean, we don't hold back

degrees near central park. then again tomorrow morning. feeling like the 90s at 9:00 this morning. coming up in just a few minutes, we'll talk more about the potential for storms. we'll look into some of the forecast, the futurecasting to see what we're expecting there. until then, the heat is on with temperatures back into the mid to upper 90s late this afternoon. michelle? we're going stick with the heat. the power company reduced power to work on equipment and keep everything up and running. at one point, 1500 customers were without power. richmond university medical center was forced to run on generators. those are always there as backup. the mayor urged residents to take steps to conserve energy,

robbing a 4-year-old little girl it happened outside of a laundromat. the man snatched a gold chain from the little girl's neck and walked away. police are looking for 22-year- old pablo escrow bar, who was identified -- escobar, who was identified through witnesses. person of interest in the case of a murdered jogger. vanessa who lived and worked in new york was in massachusetts visiting her mother. her body was found later on the day she went jogging. it has now been a week and a half since the murder of another jogger. this time, though, the one in queens. the father of carina vetrano sat down with us to talk about the mission to find her killer.

police say a woman was on a dock in the everglades when

the top temperatures may be in the mid-90s, but again, it is the combination of the heat and humidity that has calls for this excessive heat warning over the city. we also have the heat advisory for long island. basically here, the hottest locations will feel like 110 degrees. we get some relief in spotty areas thanks to the afternoon thunderstorms. it really doesn't do much to hold us off. the thunderstorms can be very dangerous. the entire area in pink and parts of eastern and suffolk a heat advisory. we add the clouds in, and those are few and far between. high pressure firmly in place that shows the feels-like temperatures continuing both today and tomorrow. in the triple digit range. so heat index is what we mean by that, the hot temperature combined with the humidity making it difficult forrous

last couple of days. it isn't getting cleaned up any time soon. it's very difficult for the body to cool itself. overnight when the temperatures don't fall below 80 degrees like last night, it becomes pretty uncomfortable, and your body, which normally can sweat and cool you off, right? you get the perspiration going and your body cools. it can't happen because everything stays wet. it's uncomfortable the entire time. the excessive heat warning is the reason the national weather service has recognized these things and posted this for everybody to know right through sunday at 10:00 p.m. it's going to be difficult to stay cool. it's going to be dangerous for people to be outdoors for long periods of time. satellite and radar

today and tomorrow we're in the triple digit range. through tomorrow, we have this threat of feeling like 110 degrees. as far as the thermometer readings go, we'll boost the number business noon to 91, going through the mid-90s through the afternoon and temperatures staying in the mid- 80s overnight tonight. we may fall below 81, 80 degrees, but that is just about as cool as it gets. temperatures. michelle? >> thank you so much, amy. developing in the bronx, several people rushed to the hospital after a four-vehicle crash on the cross bronx expressway. marcus solis joins us live from claremont with details. marcus? >> reporter: michelle, one of those victims is in critical condition. we have an update now. one lane of traffic has reopened on the cross bronx expressway. there still is a considerable cleanup.

morning. that led to the complete closure of the cross bronx expressway for a time. accident happening right at the webster avenue exit, around 4:20 this morning. two trucks, two cars involved it appears one suv did not slow down in time. traffic was slowing and merging as it was heading towards the construction area when that vehicle hit a car and a truck, setting open a chain reaction. finally came to a stop as it hit a second truck. three peop taken to the hospital. again, one was injured critically. again, a fourth time the entire -- for a time, the entire cross bronx expressway was shut down. there was a bit of a fuel spill involved as well. two people are in critical

off. police say the man and woman were trying to cross flatbush avenue when a van hit them both. they were running against the light and not in a crosswalk. the driver who hit them simply rushed away. >> pretty bad like a big boom boom. that's what made me turn around and i jumped. >> oh, my god, two people are laying in the street and just got hit by a car. we all ran over. >> a half dozen good samaritans nurse and offduty firefighter helped the victims. police are looking for a gray van with a red stripe that is missing a side mirror. the victims remain in critical condition at king's county hospital. some breaking news to get to this morning. a police officer has died after being shot in the neck during a traffic stop in new mexico. three suspects, though, are now in custody. officials say officer jose chavez died friday after being air lifted to a hospital in el paso, texas.

feels like 90 already. 107 for tomorrow afternoon in tom's river. so real extreme heat, even into early monday morning, we still have mugginess around. we could get up to a half inch of rainfall. right now, the target zone looks to be central new jersey. you can see this between 2:00 and 5:00 making its way to central new jersey and if you are clearing things up by 7:00 and 8:00 at night. the afternoon and evening. so maybe 5:00 to 8:00 before that gets out of here. monday we set the stage for a slightly more bearable forecast. the mugginess is still around but it's not as severe. catskills, jersey shore and temperatures in these locations are still hot as well. they are just close to walter

it is enough to keep you cool because this is a situation where you are going to be warm unless you are in a refrigerator because the humidity makes it tougher for your body to cool down. a lot of people would like to be cooler than that, but it's just not the luxury we have right now. even if you get into a cooler spot, we are dealing with sticky, humid air. that's difficult for the to cool down. the excessive heat warning goes into the triple digits. it's exceptionally warm with bright sunshine to start off this morning. right now, 81 degrees feels like near 90 degrees. the highest heat indexes for both today and even through tomorrow will be the triple digits up to 110 degrees. we've had knows numbers already yesterday. still the same story. a feeling of being exceptionally hot.

three people are in the hospital as a result. this is what it looked like just a short time ago. the accident taking place around 4:20 this morning. northbound cross bronx expressway right by the webster avenue exit. there were two cars and two trucks involved. according to one of the drivers, it appears that the driver and suv did not slow in time. traffic was merging and slowing near the construction zone when the jeep hit a couple of cars crash. finally hit a second truck and that's when things finally came to an end. the three people inside that suv were taken to the hospital. one person critically injured for a time. the entire cross bronx both directions was shut down. southbound reopened shortly after that and then police now have finally cleared that accident. all lanes set to reopen. again, three people hurt, one critically as a result of that

of construction on the northbound cross bronx construction. that suv hit a couple of cars and finally came to rest against a second truck. the people inside of that suv were the ones injured. three people taken to the hospital. one in critical condition. meantime, big mess for a time. the entire cross bronx in both directions were shut down for a marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." a police officer has died after being shot in the neck during a traffic stop that happened in new mexico. 33-year-old officer jose chavez died friday after being air lifted to a hospital in texas. the officer had just arrived when a passenger got out of the vehicle and opened fire.

but were later arrested. two people are in critical condition after a driver hit them in brooklyn and took off. police say the man and woman were trying to cross when a man hit them both. they were running against the light and not in a crosswalk. the driver who hit them just left the scene. >> it's pretty loud like a big boom boom. i jumped. >> people laying in the street by a car. we were running outside to so he what was going on. >> a half dozen good samaritans rushed to help the victims before rescuers arrived. police are looking for a gray van with a red stripe that is missing a side mirror. the victims remain in critical condition at kings county hospital. a disturbing message left on the side of a burning home as investigators trying to figure out whether or not the home was targeted.

endicott home was destroyed. on the side of the home was this message "lie with pigs, fry like bacon." the owners of the home say they had a pro police blue lives matter flag next to an american flag. they believe whoever started the fire was trying to make a statement. a third body has been found in a maryland apartment building that was the scene of a nasty explosion and fire. the bodies of two people were removed from the building in silver spring on thursday. investigators have not yet identified the three victims. police say search and recovery efforts will resume later today. the explosion late wednesday night shook buildings more a mile away. casino style gambling coming soon to suffolk county. they have approved 1,000 high- tech video lottery machinessen side of the marriott hotel off

the mid-90s later this afternoon. that would be hot in itself. that's the reason for the excessive heat warning. also not a lot of cooling off at night. we were in the low 08s all night long -- low 80s all night long. it's a large area where we could see 110 degrees for the heat index. thunderstorms could be bringing relief in the afternoon hours, they bring drenching downpours and extremely gusty winds. jersey, there it is, the whole area with parts of suffolk county, eastern parts of long island. that is a little less severe because of the proximity, no storms yet, but they are coming. we'll watch for the temperatures to, you know, climb and push towards the mid- 90s. that's just enough heat with the humidity that the instability gets going with showers and thunderstorms likely after 2:00 but over by

to midnight. we're going to see temperatures that are still so warm that we can get feels-like temperatures in the low 90s. same thing, waking up to feeling like 93 degrees at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. feeling like the triple digits through the afternoon. then we could actually ease back on the temperatures for monday. it's not going to be complete relief, but at least we'll take the temperatures down to perhaps the upper 80s. by the way, about an inch of rain possible in the storms those. the futurecast is showing central new jersey through the early to mid-afternoon could be the main spot. sunday late afternoon through early evening, after 2:00, the showers and thunderstorms race through the area. monday gets off to a stormy start again. the pattern is shifting as early as tuesday and wednesday. over the weekend, saturday and sunday through the catskills making the weekend get away. storms do threaten each and

avenue exit around 4:20 this morning. investigators say an suv did not slow down in time as it approached traffic due to construction and hit two tractor-trailers and another car. the crash led to a fuel spill. both sides on the expressway were shut down at one point. crews continued to clean up the southbound lanes. police are looking for the man accused of robbing a 4- year-old little girl in queens. surveillance video captured the incident that happened around last night in astoria. the man snatched a gold chain from the 4-year-old's neck then walked away. police are looking for 22-year- old pablo escobar who was identified through witnesses. >> all of this excessive heat is having a strong impact on the area's power grid. right now, con ed is reducing power by 5% in several queens neighborhoods. it was the same last night on staten island where the company reduced power in order to work on some of their equipment.
