chaos and pandemonium, eyewitness news uncovers troubling new security gaps in the response to a false shots fired call at jfk airport. >> we begin with breaking news. two u.s. olympic swimmers late tonight yanked off a plane home from rio by brazilian cops who apparently really want to know what happened the night they and ryan lochte claim they were robbed at gunpoint.

news. >> u.s. olympic swimmers jack conger and gunnar bentz were pulled off of flights that would have brought them home to the u.s. this evening by authorities in rio de janeiro. the swimmers along with champion ryan lochte are under investigation for a report they made to brazilian authorities that alleged they were robbed at gunpoint after partying early sunday morning in rio. tonight outrage in brazil after police cast doubt on the swimmers' story. >> reporter: at the center of it all is u.s. olympic swimmer winner in the olympics, and the belief of many in brazil that he lied to police in rio about being robbed at gunpoint as he was returning to the olympic village with three teammates. >> the guy pulled out his gun. he talked it. put it to my forehead and said get down. and i was like -- i put my hands up. i was like whatever. >> reporter: it is just that cavalier attitude the judge talked about and the fact that video evidence shows him returning much later than he told police that has police

badges and took their money and wallets but not their cell phones. earlier today a judge in brazil issued a warrant to have the swimmers' rooms searched and their passports confiscated on suspicion of filing a false sworn statement to police. lochte posted from the bar the men were at earlier in the night. the judge in the case wanted to know why the men looked so unphased in these images supposedly taken aft robbed at gunpoint. the u.s. olympic committee so far, as confused as anyone. >> i couldn't possibly comment on that. >> reporter: the u.s. state department saying moments ago they were now involved and offering assistance. ryan lochte is already back in the united states. conger and bentz will have to stay until this matter is revolved. a fourth swimmer, james feagan is still in brazil. lochte's attorney said the

of pure pandemonium. >> reporter: sunday night's spectacle at jfk is scary enough to see on video, much less to experience in person. >> terrifying. i think it was the worst night of my life. >> reporter: but the union representing the port authority cops said they were doing exactly what cops are trained to do. it's the panic, the rumors, the uncertainty. that's what's raising questions now. people ran through security doors on to the tarmac. pulled the emergency chute on this 747. now a flood of officials are asking the question so many passengers had for days. >> once it was known that it was a false alarm they could have made an announcement about it to calm the people down. >> reporter: you'd think so but eyewitness news has learned it isn't that easy because each terminal has its own system. port authority cops can't make a simple announcement from their main dispatch center.

you. >> reporter: margot thought she could easily get an apartment because of her solid credit score. she had no idea a dispute with her landlord put her on what many call the blacklist. they list people who have been sued by landlords. but some argue it doesn't tell the whole story. >> ceilings were open. i had gas line cut with gas leaking in to my apartment. then i never had gas functioning until i was out of there. and i finally went in to a stipulation to give up the safety. >> reporter: miller's experience shows up as an eviction. despite the fact that she says she settled with her landlord. >> a lot of people end up in housing court whereas a tenant they're in the right. sometimes you with held rent because the conditions were horrible. sometimes you had to take your landlord to court, but then you end up on this blacklist where you can't rent another apartment.

e thunder threat will increase late sunday and in to monday. then some real relief from the humidity, one of the best nicest air masses of the entire summer moving in by late monday, tuesday, and wednesday. as a matter of fact, this front might be so quick that the shower activity could be gone by daybreak on monday morning. right now, 73 at morristown. 79, belmar. 77 on the island at islip. you're seeing radar returns showing up over northern parts of new jersey. there could be a couple sprinkles already starting west york city. very heavy activity moving through the nation's capitol in to delaware bay. the whole front will move through the tri-state area. that's why we have the risk of showers early tomorrow night and tomorrow morning. tropical storm fiona nearly developed. 45-mile-per-hour tropical storm. doesn't have much promise for development. it should stay out over the open waters of the atlantic.
