weapon begin with matt gutman in rio. >> reporter: lochte issuing an apology. when this security video shows him and three other u.s. olympic swimmers. the worst, lying about the facts, broadcast on nbc. >> these guys came out with a badg a police badge. no lights no nothing. just a police badge. pulled us over. a guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead, said get down. i put my hands up, i was like, whatever. >> reporter: but in fact, lochte and three other swimmers weren't victims, they were vandals.

families are now finding. >> reporter: new images tonight of this train passing perilously close to the blaze. this massive california wildfire now leaving behind a trail of destruction. the blue cut fire burning 40 miles east of los angeles has decimated 57 square miles of land and 96 homes. poppy crandall's husband snapped these photos moments before they fled with their dogs and little else. what is that like to leave feeling like you're going lose everything? >> i felt numb. i didn't know -- >> reporter: rescuers sent johanna santore this picture of her home, now reduced to ash. their 11 animals gone. she was reluctant to share the terrible news with her granddaughter. >> there's nothing left. >> reporter: a number of residents telling us they're

the driver of the empty bus. this video shot by an injured passenger shows the moments just after the accident, emergency crews moving through the mangled mess. >> i was the only one in the back who was good. and they got a lot of people injured. >> reporter: there are on average roughly 2,500 bus crashes each year. just like this one earlier this week in oklahoma. almost half happen in intersections. surveillance video in hopes of figuring out why that driver -- a nearly 30-year veteran -- collided with the other bus. david? >> thank you. when we come back, the plane crash, the emergency landing, and the rescue with the chopper lifting them to safety. and how suspected robbers suddenly found themselves trapped inside.
