now for montauk. we'll keep temperatures cooler than the city locations so i think you'll have no problem getting into the low to mid- 0s. by the way, cool air is waiting in the wings. another hot one today but the cool air invades for at least the early part of the workweek. we'll see temperatures in the upper0s and low 80s. if you are looking for a break from the hot air, a shot of cold air is coming in and will moderate things. we'll get as warm as 87 in spots and tomorrow temperatu stay in the mid-80s. we've also got rain. we'll track that coming up. rob? an investigation is under way in queens after a 9-year- old little girl was found dead in her bathroom. we have new information now on who police are talking to this morning. "eyewitness news" reporter marcus solis is joining us live now from richmond hill with more on this tragic story. marcus? >> reporter: behind me, you may

the fence here. they have been here for 11 hours awaiting outside. relatives of the filed's father in support of him. he is at the police station where detectives are also questioning the child's stepmother. this is video of the child's father yesterday collapsing, overcome with grief after he found out about the death of his daughter. he was at work at the time in brooklyn. he returned back to the house the bathroom was locked with no water in the tub but the child was dead. police immediately labeled it suspicious. the 9-year-old girl had just moved from india to live with her father about three months ago. relatives are at a loss. >> i was shocked, you know? i was shocked. i never think this was going to happen, you know?

that she's no more. >> reporter: again, the medical examiner to determine the cause of demme. again, no -- cause of death. again, no one's charged as of yet but police continue to question the child's stepmother. marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> thank you. a family is demanding answers in the death of a bronze deli worker of a man accused of grabbing a police officer's gun. a vigil was held outside of the deli and the bedford park section. camara worked at another store across the street. he followed the suspect ephraim guzman to warn them that he was causing trouble in his store. the suspect then grabbed the officer's gun and fatally struck him.

it is supposed to be secure. >> why was this perpetrator not handcuffed before he was dragged out of the deli by the police officer whose gun was snatched? >> reporter: a second officer on the scene shot guzman. he survived and is now facing charges, including murder. the nypd has not taken any disciplinary action against the officer whose gun was taken. an arrest warrant is issued for a suspect. 18-year-old daqwon jackson allegedly opened fire. two bystanders young girls were wounded in the incident. police are asking anyone who knows where jackson is to please call them immediately. children playing with matches. that is what investigators say

homes on staten island. authorities say the children's mother was home at the time but not directly soup are sizing the young boys -- not directly supervising the young boys. the fire damaged seven buildings, two of which ultimately collapsed. more than 40 people were forced out of their homes. now to ryan lochte's story matt gutman has the story. >> reporter: this morning, jimmy feigen, the last of the four olympic swimmers caught on camera vandalizing a rio gas station is back in the u.s. that as the swimmers who accused of providing false statements to police now break their silence. overnight, gunnar bentz, the youngest of the swimmers saying it was only ryan lochte, the

the station only after they had been partying. you can see a man tear down a poster. then you see armed security guards detain them. at this point, ben says ryan stood up and began to yell at the guards after jack and i tugged at him to get him to sit back down. eventually, a good samaritan translated and the swimmers gave the guards about $50 for the damage. lochte wrote "i should have been much more responsible for myself. for that, i am sorry for my teammates, fans, sponsors, and the host of this great event." initially, lochte denied anything happened. then he told nbc -- >> these guys came out with a badge, police badge, no lights, no nothing, just a police badge and pulled us over. >> reporter: lochte's lawyer insisting that his client's apology should not be viewed as an admission of guilt.

the zika outbreak in miami is prompting a travel warning for the centers for disease control. new virus have popped up many south beach, which is, of course, a huge tourist destination. that's in addition to part of downtown miami where some people contracted zika. federal health expects say pregnant women and women looking to get pregnant should not travel to any part of miami- dade county. >> the risk is still low, but the result is catastrophic. so you have to put both of those things into the esituation.

ignorant, it's staggering." >> that was abc's mary bruce reporting. president obama will head down to baton rouge next week. the white house says the president is eager to get a firsthand look at the destruction caused by flooding and lend support to all of the families affected. the announcement comes after many called on the president to cut his vacation in martha's vineyard short to make that trip. obama will be in baton rouge, again, on tuesday. anheuser-busch is doing its part to help victims of the flooding. th truck loads of water for drinking. more than 250,000 cans are expected to be handed out. this is the biggest donation anheuser-busch has made since superstorm sandy. >> another company jumping in, too. tide is pitching in. they are offering to wash clothes and other belongings for free. the loads of hope truck pulled in to baton rouge yesterday. there is a limit of two loads

location is exactly, certainly more humid than yesterday. so you feel that difference, a mix of sun and clouds. tomorrow, temperatures stick in the middle 80s but thundershowers are expected late tomorrow. so while the temperatures sort of eased back a big, we'll wait for the thunderstorms to come in to a very humid, soupy air mass. when that happens, it could possibly be heavy and creating a real refreshing air mass the satellite radar is few and far between with the clouds early on and no more than a decoration. during the day, we start to get instability setting up in the atmosphere. later on tonight, a mix of sun and clouds. we've got the humidity and we wait for the front, which actually lines up from syracuse all the way through williamsport. that pushes in our direction. some of the breaking up the line of showers and thunderstorms. the latest run shows us after 2:00, 3:00, it starts to push into northwest new jersey

hours. we don't really shake this until dawn on monday morning. we can still see lingering showers until 6:00, 7:00 on monday morning. behind that, it is clear, beautiful skies and temperatures that are cool in the low 80s for monday and tuesday. your get away takeoff in the catskills. tomorrow the showers and thunderstorms are hitting 78. jersey shore, 87 today. 87 tomorrow, but also tomorrow, you could get a shower or thunderstorm. the hamptons low 80s for days and dry conditions. sea and sand forecast, southeast winds of 3 foot waves with a moderate rip current risk. still going to be muggy today and more comfortable than yesterday. 75 for the city overnight. there it is tomorrow, that 84 degree reading. the chance for the showers and thunderstorms will close out the weekend. you'll be able to salvage the early part of the sunday. then the showers and storms come in later with the front. it looks like they will come in

see family members. they have been here throughout the night waiting for information in support of the child's father while police question the stepmother as to just what happened yesterday. we'll show you some video. this is the girl's father collapsing in grief as he learned the news that his daughter was dead. he was at work at the time and returned home. ashdeep was found in a locked bathroom. she was this a bathtub. there was no water in the tub the bathroom was locked. the neighbor who kicked in the door and made the discovery. police are labeling this suspicious. relatives, as we speak, are mourning the loss of this little girl who came from india three months ago to live with her father. they've been out here all night to get answers. >> i'm watching and waiting, you know? i don't see anything, you know?

what, what happened, you know? >> reporter: again, the autopsy to be performed by the medical examiner and no charges filed against anyone in the case as they continue to question the child's stepmother. marcus solis, channel 7 "eyewitness news." >> thank you, marcus. in other news now, police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a 17-year- old boy dead and another man hurt. officers say on wednesday past a group of people on college avenue. shots were fired from the car into a crowd of people. 17-year-old dante gordon was killed. a 21-year-old man, meantime, remains in critical condition after he was shot in the stomach. a family in newark is looking for answers as a memorial continues to grow for a 24-year-old woman who was hit and killed in a police chase.

spun off the road. the driver jumped the curb killing 24-year-old china willis. witnesses say gunther started to walk away but police arrested him. they also found a large amount of drugs in his car. >> i blame the cops for chasing him because whatever he did, i'm quite sure it wasn't that serious. >> was the drugs worth y'all taking her life? we will never get her back. >> police haven't said why they were chasing gunther or if it drugs that were found, they say in the car. newark investigators are looking into whether a deadly crash was caused by one of the buses running a red light. one bus t-boned another nearly flipping it over. 70-year-old joseph who was driving the bus with no passengers on board was killed. a female passenger on the other bus also died. one person is still in the

in serious condition. happening right now, the port authority is conducting a fall-scale emergency exercise. commuters are being reminded this morning that all of this is just a drill. we're getting a live look at where this morning's scenarios will play out. you see it right there. the agency will set off two simulated explosions. one on land, one on the water. members of the port authority, police department, nypd, fdny, in this three-hour exercise. now, all of this is coming amid criticism over how the port authority handled the big scare at jfk airport last weekend. after the incident, the agency did release a statement saying it is committed to providing fast and appropriate guidance during changing situations. from the classroom to the courtroom, hear how a decision to fire a catholic high school administrator stirred up controversy. this is happening in new

tons of sunshine, too. we're reading temperatures right now in central park. going to reverse flip it to 87. south winds right now currently at 3 miles per hour. temperature right now in white plains is 75 degrees. 80 already in new work. lake hurst has 78 degrees. all of these numbers warm up dramatically. tomorrow is actually cooler bought we have showers to track. that is a difference in the weekend day. it's humid this afternoon. it's thunderstorms and showers don't move in until late tomorrow. we've got all day today, part of tomorrow before the showers come in and it could be possibly heavy and gusty. we'll tell you why. we have a humid air mass that tracks the front. the moisture could spell trouble with the showers that do develop. so watch that, and a refreshing breeze coming in with low humidity and much lower temperatures as well. on the satellite and radar, not a lot to see here.

the afternoon. then we watch the futurecast. clouds come and go, but we know it's more muggy that adds moisture to the atmosphere. then form, we start with some clouds around and a spotty shower. this front will get our attention from syracuse to williamsport, we'll push into the area. watch from philadelphia to northwest new jersey, a lot of moisture in that portion of the front. this is the concern and now the models are catching up to it. i think it even speeds up after 2:00 and we get the chances for the thunderstorms from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. tomorrow. could see a shower lingering for parts of eastern long island into the pre-dawn hours and it's out of here. looking good for monday and tuesday. jersey shore 87, hamptons 81. tomorrow similar temperatures but we add into the mix of threat of storms. the catskills will get it first. jersey shore late afternoon to the early evenings. hamptons could steer clear of any showers. 2 to 3 foot waves if you head

our top stories, the information into the death of a little girl in queens. the 9-year-old was found dead inside of the bathroom in her home. >> marcus solis is joining us live from richmond hills with the details on the ongoing investigation. marcus some. >> rob and toni, the cause of death has not yet been determined, but police have been questioning the child's stepmother through the night is also here. we can show you video of him collapsing upon learning the news that his daughter was dead. he was at work at the time, returned to the home where the body of ashdeep was found. she was in a locked bathroom in a bathtub. there was no water in it, but the child's lifeless body was found there. police were called, immediately labeled this suspicious and the medical examiner determined the cause of death.
