the mid-80s. we currently have 77 degrees, and we are going to be tracking showers through parts of the day. it did not cool off last night. it was muggy throughout the area. a bit of a breeze in some places, but temperatures already reading in the upper 70s. won't make it difficult into the mid-80s today. not a lot happening. clouds are trying to force their way in. a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, and all the rain today is moving through central pennsylvania through the wet into the weekend any way you look at it. temperatures will stay in theup 70s and low 80s. we'll go today for a forecast high in the mid-80s. that's as warm as it gets. we'll talk about the refreshing air mass behind the rain. it's all coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. i'll see you then. turning to breaking news out of bridgeport, connecticut. several people have been hurt after a house party turned violent. police say multiple people were shot early this morning.

their injuries. it's not clear exactly what the conditions are of those victims. of course we'll continue to update you throughout the morning on air and online at abc7ny.com. more breaking news this morning this time out of manhattan. police are looking for the shooter who opened fire on the street in harlem, killing a 61- year-old woman who police believe was simply an innocent bystander. kristin thorne is live on the hour. >> reporter: police have identified the woman as 61-year- old odessa sims. she lived two blocks from where this happened. police say it was around 11:45 last night. she was out on the street, hanging out with her husband, they tell us, possibly playing dominoes around 144th and lenox av, when someone came and shot her. she was shot in the neck and

where she was pronounced dead. police say sims was not the intended target and they are not saying whether they have any suspects at this time. we're live in harlem, i'm kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. new video just in, a taxi cab and another car crashed. the taxi appears to have jumped a curb near bodega, leaving the flower display in shambles. this happened near west 74th walking along the street was injured. it's not clear what caused the accident or if anyone in the cars was hurt. a 55-year-old woman is set to be arraigned for the death of her 9-year-old stepdaughter. killing her on friday. the little girl was found dead inside an empty bathtub in the richmond hill home. many family members told eyewitness news core would talk about her stepmother beating

girl, but the medical examiner needs to determine the cause of death. three men in new jersey are recovering in the hospital after being shot. it happened last night at a gas station in chancellor and maple avenues. all three victims are expected to survive. police have not released a motive behind the shooting but are continuing to investigate several leads. also, we are learning more about the passenger who was killed when one new jersey transit bus collided with another. 49-year-old jesse rc newark was riding on the bus that was t-boned in this horrific crash early friday morning in newark. authorities say she was rushed to the hospital but died several hours later. the grandmother of three was simply on her way to work. >> the light of her life were her grand kids. she was just a grandma, you know, and she was a hard worker. she got up every day, six days a week to work.

hospitalized today. the other bus, which was empty at the time was driven by a 27 year veteran of new jersey transit. that driver, 70-year-old joseph barthelas passed away in the crash. the accident remains under investigation. the bronx power has been restored to all powers who lost electricity after the storm passed through. down power lines. the outage affected nearly 1200 customers in and around pelham gardens. coming up on eyewitness news sunday morning. donald trump continues to try and court minority voters. this morning, reaction from civil rights activists activists and why his opponents are questioning the move. it is a cloudy start here in the accuweather center. we are tracking the temperatures first and it's a warm beginning.

. people across several states are working to help the victims of flooding. the community came together to impacted by this. flood victims unloaded the trucks and helped pass out countless supplies, some items coming in specifically for impacted police. more than 100 officers have been displaced by the flooding. crews are working to put together care packages for them to thank them and to show their support. an estimated 40,000 homes impacted by flooding throughout

>> 61-year-old odessa sims was hanging out on the street with her husband last night. they apparently were playing dominoes when shots rang out. she was shot in the neck. this all happened around 11:45 last night around 144th and lenox avenue. sims was rushed to harlem hospital where she was pronounced dead. she lived just two blocks from where this happened. police say sims was not the intended target. as police were investigating this incident, about two hours after wards, ot rang out just a few blocks from here in a different shooting. two men suffered gunshot wounds. they are expected to survive. police say that these two shootings are not related but clearly a violent night in harlem. we're live in harlem. i'm kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. also right now, a mystery in suffolk county. human remains were found in a wooded area near the long island expressway yesterday.

his mountain bike near express drive north in ronkonkoma. they believe the remains were there for quite some time. anyone with information call crime stoppers at 800220-tips. investigators say a pickup truck rear ended a sedan on the hudson bay extension. the crash. three other cars were also involved and two other people were hurt. police say they do not expect to file any criminal charges. police are investigating after a texas a&m university student died inside of a fraternity house. the 19-year-old was found unresponsive at the sigma new house yesterday morning. investigators believe he died of an overdose of an unknown

controlled substance. the fraternity says it will assist in the investigation. stiffer penalties now in place for assaulting workers at subway train and bus stations in new york. if a worker is injured, the attack could be classified as a felony and lead to 7 years in prison. new york governor andrew cuomo signed the legislation because he says the workers have increasingly become targets of aggression. interesting story here, new york city taxi drivers no tests in english. driver tests will be available in several languages. according to a report, the move brings the city in line with those app based services that do not have an english language requirement. only 4% of new york city taxi drivers were born in the u.s. love this story. step by step, that's how a 93- year-old world war ii veteran

sticks in any cop's mind, let alone a little boy. tyrone's mother was shot and killed by his father who later killed himself. tyrone now without parents and living with his aunt. >> he happened to be president of household when the incident took place and we just wanted to provide him with some hope. >> reporter: they did that by adding in a check for 5 grand tyrone. >> dreams come true. dreams do come true. >> reporter: in fact, this was a major grass roots effort here in the community. police did everything from collecting recyclables to just simply asking, cop by cop, to donate money. >> we petitioned other community affairs officers throughout the bronx to donate one dollar per cop per precinct. >> and they say the college fund is an ongoing effort. just contact community affairs at the 49th, if you want to

welcome back, there are a lot of clouds out there, but those camera shots are so beautiful. >> lifted just like that. it has turned around here in the last hour as far as the visibility in the skies goes. gives us a nice start to the day. not going to finish that way. hopefully you were able to get outdoors yesterday and enjoy it. a big change is coming this afternoon to this evening, as far as storms go, and tomorrow it's goi feel different as well. what a gorgeous shot of manhattan. you can see the empire state building practically growing. looking down to the battery, and we have good visibility where earlier in, the cloud ceiling was actually covering parts of one world trade. currently we have 76 degrees in central park. humidity 85%. winds are calm. pressure is falling. today our temperatures will make it back to the mid-80s. still a little bit of a muggy feel to the atmosphere. there's plenty of moisture to work with. as the showers and storms

the atmosphere. the storm prediction center has included parts of our area in green, which is of course western new jersey, parts of the delmar here. we're in a marginal risk. everybody could see a thunderstorm today, but the marginal risk for severe development, winds above 50 miles per hour, lightning, and possibly areas of flooding, that's the areas outlined in green. mid-80s later on. looking across the area, everybody starting in the low range, but the moisture in the atmosphere is really intense meaning that there is a lot of water to work with. yesterday we saw this on long island, just how much rain could come out of these clouds, and we have extremely humid conditions. a little micro climate set up with the winds, producing anywhere between 2 to 4 inches of rain in just 60 to 80 minutes time. really a mess for parts of long island. those winds coming off the ocean together with a real humid air mass in place with just enough trigger to open the skies. today it's a different kind of

it's not a little micro climate with the thin little piece of land up against the ocean. instead, what we've got here is a cold front. we're able to track it, and see how quickly it comes in. after 5:00, until about 10:00 tonight, that's the time frame that we have the risk of showers and storms. so for the next 7 hours, you can get out and get things done. a southerly wind, south, southeasterly wind through the early afternoon, we hit that high of 85 and you'll notice clouds are definitely in place computer model it starts here this morning at 6:00 a.m. there could be a spotty shower across the area. that's not the main action we're going to see as far as storms go. instead we wait until after the lunch hour and we start to track this, showers and thunderstorms moving in from the west. first affecting northwest new jersey, and then by 5:00, making their way to central new jersey and suburbs of new york, and the heaviest rainfall looks to be between 6 and 8:00 p.m. yellows, oranges and red,

and the potential for lightning. once this front has passed us, we'll see very nice conditions, and the heat returns next week. it's hot and sticky now, a break for a couple days, and heads up for the changes, a little bit of a roller coaster coming here, the rest of the weekend, look for those thunderstorms later. 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. is the range, and they will move from west to east. long island, you'll see the heavy storms last after sunset tonight. look at the accuweather 7-day forecast. looks nice, sunny and cool. and then we're warmer by wednesday. 85. thursday a high of 86 degrees, and then we're right back to the muggies. that's the pattern we're talking about. late next week, the high pressure system starts to solidify itself again where we can pump in the hot sticky air from the south. finally, 81 degrees.

to the 7:00 hour of news. 7 people have been hurt after gunfire erupted at a house party. police say multiple people were shot early this morning. many were taken to the hospital. it is still not clear what conditions those victims are now in. of course we will continue to update you throughout the morning. all right. now to harlem, also topping our news. it was a violent night there. police are trying to track down the gunman who killed a woman right in front of her husband. eyewitness news reporter, kristin thorne is live lenox avenue in harlem with the latest. >> reporter: good morning, police have identified the victim here at 61-year-old odessa sims. she lived just two blocks from here from where this all happened. it was around 11:45 last night. police say when she and her husband were playing dominoes out on the street around 144th 144th street and lenox avenue. shots rang out. she was shot in the neck. she was rushed to harlem hospital where she was

storms moving in. in the boroughs, 76 for murray hill. white stone currently at 77. howard beach has 78 degrees, and oakwood at 76. down the jersey shore right now, it's 75 degrees belmar. wrightstown is a cool 68. and we have 60s north and west of the city. on the satellite and radar picture, just a spotty rain shower early on. that is not the main event for today. instead we are looking at a marginal risk for severe weather development from this cold front that's coming across central pennsylvania right now. us gusty winds, also dangerous lightning and the potential for heavy downpours. we have such a humid air mass overhead that can produce a lot of rain in a short amount of time that we saw yesterday. all the areas in green, 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. so again today, very moist atmosphere. that means that when the front comes through, it could ring out the atmosphere and bring us some heavy showers and thunderstorms. we are expecting that between 5 and 10:00 this evening.

a lot of time when we see weather events, fascinating tornado or a massive hurricane we watch for a very long time, weather doesn't really discriminate. it may come in a form that is not so, i don't know, entertaining, if you will. and so when rain happens, the water has to find a way, and the flooding happens, it's very ugly, and it didn't come in a spectacular fashion like a tornado or hurricane but very very devastating. overnight, and they woke up to rushing water in their homes. >> around here, we had our own big rains yesterday on long island. wow, what a micro climate set up with on shore flow coming over that sliver of land that we have, long island, and couldn't battle against the ocean creating those winds. we had a humid air mass over place. the thunderstorms are repeating themselves over and over. 2 to 4 inches of rain in less an an hour's time, you guys. incredible amounts of water.

into lower manhattan, the cloud ceiling is hanging low. plenty of moisture to work with. told we could get drenching downpours as the storms develop. they will be coming in about 5:00 west to east. currently in central park, 77 degrees. it's not going to be perfect sunshine but temperatures climbing into the mid-80s and it will be a mix of clouds and sunshine. on long island right now, smithtown, 77. east hampton, 72 degrees. dan bury connecticut, across sound, 73. trenton, 91, so hot and sunny, including met life stadium, tens of thousands of people there at the stadium in bright sunshine trying to dodge the rays, while here on long island, the converging winds creating the downpours and just incredible amounts of rain in a short amount of time. the oranges just inside these green blobs, indicating more than 3 inches of rainfall just to the northeast of smithtown.

near river head. a lot of rain in a short amount of time. that's the message for today. it's different how the weather is made. what we had yesterday is sort of a micro climate. tricky to forecast. this right here is a cold front that's marching in that we can see the timing on it. and we know that it's got a lot of moisture along with the humidity that's already in place. we are looking at 5 to 10:00 p.m. for the storms today. thunderstorms right through the evening hours. then by early tomorrow morning, the rain is clear. it's breezy and cooler and a lot less on monday and tuesday. temperatures in the low 80s and low humidity. areas in green here are in the marginal risk for severe weather. that includes parts of western new jersey, also the delmarva, and severe thunderstorms with winds over 55 miles per hour, extremely dangerous lightning, torrential downpour, that's the area in green. planning for the day, you get sunshine, south, southeasterly winds through the afternoon. a high of 85 in the city. then when the storms move in,

early on, it's a spotty shower. not a big deal. when the front comes through here, this is the drenching downpour, and the very active weather from binghamton all the way through scranton and allentown, we get the showers moving into our area from west to east. after 5:00, becomes widespread across the area. oranges, yellows and reds, indicating heavy rainfall through about 9:00, 10:00 tonight, and then it clears out. early next week, which is really starting monday and tuesday, the early part of wednesday, we have the low humidity a is basically erased from the forecast until late in the week. the weekend get away, storms, late afternoon evening hours. hottest spot will be the jersey shore. air quality is moderate. uv index at 8. weather wellness for pollen counts is moderate to high, with ragweed, being the main concern. down to 68 for the low. 85 the high. thunderstorms are possible, and tomorrow 81 and pleasant. haven't seen temperatures that cool on monday and tuesday

today, say after four, 5:00, the storm prediction center putting us in the marginal severe risk category, meaning parts of western new jersey could get some real strong storms between 5 and 10:00 p.m. this evening. we first begin this morning with clouds hanging low over manhattan. we can see from empire state building stretching down to lower manhattan. we have clouds coming and going. at times, the sun angle the was vacant. it's definitely strong enough to take our temperatures from the upper 70s where they are right now into it's humid. it's warm, and we wait for the cold front to shake things up later today. 77 popular number. murray hills, sunset park, garrettson and oakwood, 76 for riverdale, and howard beach at 78 degrees. hottest spots were inland new jersey. 91 in trenton. a handful of degrees shy of that. and forecast highs in the mid- 80s. yesterday's torrential rain, we'll talk about that here in about 15 minutes.

central pennsylvania. it's going to move west to east after 5:00 p.m., this is a cold front that will shake up the atmosphere, produce the showers and thunderstorms right through maybe say 10:00 this evening. and there's the potential for severe weather with this. we'll talk about how much water we can get and what comes in behind it for the workweek. i'll have all of that in the accuweather 7-day forecast. rob. thank you very much. and back to our breaking news this morning. police are trying to find the gunman who killed a woman on avenue in harlem. she was just outside with her husband when she was shot. >> eyewitness news reporter, kristin thorne is live in harlem, and has the latest details. >> reporter: good morning, 61- year-old odessa sims was out here hanging out in the street with her husband, apparently playing dominoes when shots rang out. she was shot in the neck. this all happened around 11:45 last night, around 144th 144th street and lenox avenue.

harlem hospital where she was pronounced dead. she lives just two blocks from where this all happened. police say sims was not the intended target. while police were investigating this shooting, about two hours later around 1:45 in the morning, shots rang out just a few blocks from here. another shooting, two men suffered injuries. they are expected to survive. police are saying that these two shootings are not related harlem. live in harlem, i'm kristin thorne, channel 7 eyewitness news. new jersey state police say a child died in a multi-vehicle accident yesterday morning. we first reported this accident saturday. investigators say a pickup truck rear ended a sedan on the hudson bay extension in bayonne. a 5-year-old little boy was in a car seat and died in the crash. another child and the driver were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

people suffered injuries. there are now stiffer penalties for assaulting workers at subway trains and bus stations in new york. if a worker is injured, the attack could be classified as a felony and lead to 7 years in prison. new york governor andrew cuomo signed the new legislation because he says the workers have been increasingly become targets of aggression. new york city taxi drivers no longer have to pass their tests in english. driver tests will be available in several languages, according to a new report, the move in line with those now famous app based services that do not have an english language requirement. that competition so stiff in the city that only 4% of city taxi drivers were born here in the u.s. turning now to the race for the white house. gop presidential candidate donald trump has captured several headlines this week. a campaign shake up, and

to about 10:00 p.m. where we see the showers and thunderstorms. there is a good period of time here during the day over the next 7 hours, where you're not dealing with anything more than a quick sprinkle or shower. and temperatures will go into the mid-80s. you could see a sun break in some cases. after 5:00, it's on with the showers and thunderstorms line. this is the front itself after 6:00 moving into our area. and then we get the showers right through 10:00. by 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, it's out of here. i want to take the high rainfall rate. look at the timing which we just saw, 5 to 10:00 p.m. combine it with what we have seen as far as heavy rain. yes, it looks like later, 6 to 8:00 p.m. that we get it right over the city. oranges, yellows and reds showing up. that batch of energy goes 8 to 10:00 p.m. for long island. then we will be done with everything, and we start off with a cool air mass for monday morning. cat skills today, 78 with the
