see if you recognize 38-year-old kevin bristow. police think he's armed and dangerous. 10 on your side's erin kelly joins us live at that 7-eleven -- where police were called twice yesterday. erin? that's because they say there was a second robbery here last night. they're not sure if it's connected to the one involving the shooting. this is surveillance video from wednesday morning. moments leading up to the shooting. we're told the clerk is out of the hospital and the suspect got away with $50 dollars. then -- police say last night -- just before 9 pm -- an armed robber at a 7-11 on redgate avenue and orapax in west ghest demanded cash and ran off. 25 minutes later -- police say the same thing happend at a 7-11 on colonial ave and princess anne road in ghent. the finally -- back here at chesapeake boulevard -- police say an armed suspect went in the store and quickly ran out before getting money. police have not said if all 3 crimes last night

at 5 - i'll explain what may have prevented the suspect from getting money here last night. live in norfolk, erin kelly, 10 on your side. early this afternoon an attempted robbery in virginia beach led to a school lockdown. police found a hurt employee at the citgo on diamond springs road. we're told a man came into the store just before 12-30 with a knife. he didn't get away with any money - but he did cut an employee on the arm - and was last seen running toward driftwood apartments. meanwhile bayside elementary school was on an external lockdown during the investigation. that means no one was let into the school. the employee is expected to be ok. this store was also robbed on the first. hampton police are investigating two business robberies that happened 15 mintues apart. the first one took place at a family dollar on lasalle avenue just after 10 last night. new since midday: surveillance photos of the suspect police say went inside with a gun and demanded money. it was the same scenario 15 minutes later at kim's chinese food also on

detectives believe one suspect is responsible for both robberies. if you have any information call the crime line. new information in a hotel shooting in chesapeake. police say there was a confrontion between the suspect and the victim inside a fourth floor room before the gunfire. the shooting happened around four this morning at the extended stay america hotel in greenbrier. this story was breaking all morning. the victim is recovering. police say they have identified a person of interest. portsmouth public schools say multiple fights broke out at i-c norcom high school today - after the fire alarm went off. our crew on the scene found multiple police cruisers at the school. we're told the fire alarms went off just before noon - but there was no fire. as students were returning to their classes - several fights broke out in the hallways. the school tells us some people were hurt - but expect them all to be fine. classes went back to normal. police are looking into the incident. a norfolk state university basketball player is in the hospital with what school officials call "a serious medical condition."

let's take you back to this scene yesterday just after 3 here at the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel. police say killmon tried to pass a car and ended up taking out 200 feet of guardrail before his big rig splashed into the water. crews were able to throw him a life ring until boats could rescue him. he suffered a broken arm, cuts on his face and hypothermia. it was an outcome that doesn't happen very often. 01=3:44 "unfortunately we have been the ones who have responded to vehicles that have gone off the bridge and this is the first recovery that i know of that we actually had a live victim" cheaspeake bay bridge police say they do plan to charge killmon. we're told precon marine out of chesapeake was hired to recovery the truck and trailer. we're told that process

eat less sugar. a lot less sugar. the federal government has new dietary guidelines. the guidelines tell americans to limit their intake of added sugar to no more than 10-percent of daily calories. that's about 12 teaspoons of sugar a day. to put that in perspective --- a can of coke contains nearly 10 teaspoons. the guidelines also suggest cutting back on salt to about 23-hundred miligrams or about a teaspoon. and the recommendations include limiting saturated fat but not necessarily cholesterol. also --- increasing the amount of fruit, vegetables and whole grains in your diet. health and human services secretary sylvia burwell suggests making small, daily changes. hhs secretary sylvia burwell "when you think perhaps how you think

today we are learning more about the impact some store closings will have on hampton roads. yesterday at four we told you several macy's stores in hampton roads will soon close. we now know nearly 3-hundred employees are impacted. 10 on your side's brandi cummings spent the day researching what this closure will mean for the local economy. stephanie- hearing of a store closing and people losing jobs is not good news. but one hampton roads city says the closing presents an opportunity. across the country macy's will close 40 stores in the early spring. three of them in hampton roads. in all 273 employees will be impacted. some of them may be given

stores. the macy's at peninsula town center in hampton opened in 1977 but is now on the chopping block. the macys in chesapeake square opened in 1999, but will also close. and finally the macys in norfolk's military circle mall opened in 1976 and will soon close. the company ceo cited disappointing sales and earnings last year as a reason for the closings. this come as no surprise to leaders we spoke to. norfolk officials say the closure presents an opportunity to redesign and redevelop the entire area along military highway. we believe that we have a mix of retail but we also have a real opportunity with the amount of acreage involved to increase our business base dramatically - its a great central location for that. also to bring in new residential communities and other uses from a residential perspective coming up tonight on wavy news 10 at 5:30...i'll

stolen at the riverdale business park, off cunningham drive. 10 on your side's joe fisher was in hampton today -- and joe, i can imagine it's a huge expensive to replace these units. anita -- air conditioning professional tell me these units are upwards of one thousand bucks each to replace! at the riverdale business park --- thieves took seven of them! this business park is made up of mostly medical offices. the employees tell me they help people --- and thieves simply helped themselves --- ruining their cooling systems. hampton police say the seven units were taken sometime between last thursday and sunday night. two employees at a dental office affected tell me they noticed the damage monday morning when they returned to work. the units now almost unrecognizable. night when the elevator got stuck about 900 feet underground. a crane was brought in to help with the rescue. the trapped workers were given radios and other supplies, including water and blankets. the crane lowered a basket with a rescuer -- who put safety harneses on the miners before lifting them all to safety. shawn wilczynski, mine manager, cargill "i also think all the training that we've done, we do have two mine rescue teams that train locally and collaborate with the local agencies on a consistent basis and that collaboration and that cooperation paid off. again, this is something that you hope that you never have to use but when it comes to fruition that it ends the way that it has today." the first 4 miners rescued waited nearly two hours until the last two were brought up to safety. no one was hurt. the mine manager believes a beam came loose under the elevator and caused it to get stuck. police in texas are looking for five men who tried to commit a smash and grab burglary. security cameras roll as

stolen pick-up into a dallas convenience store early wednesday morning. once inside --- they try to steal the store safe --- but it proves to be too much to handle. after repeatedly trying to lift the safe --- the five take off. they left the safe and a mess behind. they later abandoned the stolen truck. authorities in massachusetts are investigating why a tractor trailer burst into flames on an interstate. flames ripped through the roof of the truck yesterday evening along route 495 southbound in milford. it took crews two hours to clear the scene. no one was hurt. the driver says he heard a noise from the engine and pulled over. the truck then caught fire. the military is investigating why an airplane part fell from the sky. a piece of tail cone landed in a mississippi yard last night. the military says the part came from a national guard transport plane that was on a training mission. a hot holiday gift is banned on many college campuses. at least 20 universities have banned or restricted hoverboards --- saying they aren't safe. aside from the risk of falls and collisions, several colleges are citing federal warnings saying some hoverboards have caught fire. among the schools that have issued outright bans are american university and george washington university in washington d.c. other schools like louisiana state university and the university of arkansas have banned hoverboards from dorm rooms or campus buildings. a lot of people have personal drones. the f-a-a says more than 180-thousand are registered as of the last two weeks. the f-a-a made drone-registration mandatory starting on december 21-th. some consumer organizations estimate more than 400-thousand drones were sold this holiday season alone. the f-a-a just launched a new app this week that tells consumers where they can and can't fly their drones.

that suspect today. right now -- police have only said they think he's connected to the robbery yesterday morning. and they consider him armed and dangerous. norfolk police are looking for 38 year old kevin bristow. they think he's the man in this surveillance video -- accused of robbing and shooting a clerk at a 7- eleven on chesapeake boulevard around 2 am wednesday. this shows the moments leading up to the shooting. we're told the clerk is out of the hospital and the suspect got away with $50 dollars. hours later -- police say they were at another 7- eleven -- just before 9 pm on redgate avenue in west ghent. officers say an armed robber demanded cash and ran off. 25 minutes later -- police say the same thing happened at a 7-eleven on colonial avenue in ghent. then -- just before 10 -- at the same 7-eleven where there was a shooting earlier in the day -- police say an armed suspect went in the store
