burfoot if it is proven in court to be true. most damning is his association with tivest development and construction. federal prosecutors allege burfoot used his position as councilman , vice mayor, and chief deputy treasurer to enrich himself. they say he did this by soliciting and obtaining payments, gifts, and other things of value in exchange for official actions to benefit the individuals and their interests. prosecutors call it a scheme. burfoot became a silent partner in tivest and promised other partners he would use his position to help cirect city projects to tivest. at some point burfoot gets nervous about his interest in tivest and demands money to cash out. he wanted $250,000 but the partners said the company hadn't made any money. but they paid thousands to burfoot to continue getting the city projects. proseuctor say he directed about $100,000

money eventhough tivest wasn't licensed to do the work. indictment burfoot manipulated a filing deadline in favor of tivest for work in the broad creek villas development where he now owns a home. the feds also bring up the controversial midtown office tower development project where burfoot got $50,000 in cash and other gifts to show favor to tivest with that development and then voted to approve the project for tivest. he also tried to conceal the scene. at another hearing for another project burfoot was asked udner oath: mr. burfoot have you ever solicited anything fo value in exchange for an official act. burfoot answered, "i did not. i have not. mr. burfoot have you ever accepted anything of value in exchange for an official act. he answered i have not. today i went to the treasurers office,

protogyrou. jason? norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot was just indicted on federal charges by the fbi. the indictment was unsealed friday morning and lists the following counts: conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, honest services wire fraud, official right, perjury criminal forfeiture. document: burfoot indicted burfoot served on the norfolk city council from july 2002 through december 2014. he was the city's vice mayor from 2007 through 2013. he also served as the chief deputy treasurer beginning in 2008. the indictment states that from about 2005 through feb. 2011, "burfoot and his conspirators engaged in a scheme to use his official positions as norfolk city councilman, vice mayor, and chief deputy treasurer to enrich himself by soliciting and obtaining payments, gifts and other things of value from individuals with interests before the city of norfolk. in exchange, burfoot performed and agreed to perform official actions, including certain

hotel in greenbrier. new at midday -- a man accused of sexual assault is facing multiple charges. 40-year-old jason ellis with sexually assaulting a child under the age of 15. the charges are from incidents that took place between 2014 through 2015. the fate of former governor bob mcdonnell will be in the hands of the u-s supreme court today. for the frst time since a jury convicted mcdonnell on eleven federal corruption counts, the high court may consider hearing his corruption appeal. in september 20-14, a federal jury convicted mcdonnell on the corruption charges. last year a federal judge sentenced mcdonnell to two years in prison. a jury found him and his wife, maureen, guilty of trading political favors for gifts and loans from a wealthy businessman. his legal team immediately appealed

new information this midday about a virginia beach citgo robbery. new information this midday about a virginia beach citgo robbery. this man - 53-year-old carlton isaac dunston of norfolk is in the virginia beach correctional center without bond. the citgo convience store was targeted by an armed robber twice in one week. this time - an employee was injured. an attempted armed robbery happened at the citgo on diamond springs road. this was thursday just before 12:30 in the afternoon. police say dunston had a knife and attempted to rob the convenience store - and ended up cutting the employee on the arm. the incident took place

saturday. we've been told the driver, 33-year-old matthew killmon, drove through the barricade and into the chesapeake bay. he only had minor injuries when crews pulled him from the water. he somehow managed to get out of the cab and swim to the surface. the salvage company will try to recover the truck if the weather permits. the u-s-n-s kanawha is starting a 6 month deployment today. the kanawha is one of the navy's replenishment oilers. it provides fuel for locally-based military ships and jets at sea. the kanawha was supposed to leave naval station norfolk on wednesday, but the navy changed the departure date to today because of weather. it's crewed by civil service mariners. kansas city fire fighters were on the scene of a massive apartment fire early this morning. firefighters had to evacuate the building because it got too dangerous. at least two people had to be treated by paramedics.

is here with more on that. shamed by a sandwich? this seemingly innocuous photo of a couple of slices of cheese and bread have one community questioning its school's lunch etiquette. sot mom (from affiliate package) it was a slap in the face to the kids the offending sandwich was snapped by senior sierra feitl.. after it was handed to a fellow student who owed too much money on her meal credit account. sot the lunch lady said you owe $25.60. you have to have this alternative lunch. it's a new policy in this indiana school district where students can buy a lunch on credit... the school started handing out alternative lunches to students who owe more than twenty five dollars. the school says it notified families of the change last year ..but they're only now enforcing it. none of the students who received an alternate lunch would speak on camera. but sierra posted a photo of the sandwich on social media ..calling it "absolutely mortifying." sot - sierra - i was sitting there thinking

part in celebrating the country's explosion of a hydrogen bomb. the country's state media has not mentioned anything about the condemnation coming from other countries. as north korean's celebrate -- south korean's are retaliating. the south is using broadcasts of anti- pyongyang propaganda across the tense border. the broadcasts were expected to draw a some type of negative response from north korea, which considers the broadcasts an act of psychological warfare. the last time south korea used the broadcasts - there was a threat of war between the north and south. a potential terror threat is now in police custody ... government officials identify the suspect as omar faraj saeed al hardan. he came to the u-s as a refugee in 20-09. the 24-year-old was taken into custody in houston last night by f-b-i and homeland investigation agents.

alive. he was shot multiple times in a shootout with a suspect just before midnight yesterday. 33-year-old officer jesse hartnett was driving through a west philadelphia intersection when the suspect started shooting. hartnett was shot 3 times in his left arm and suffered a broken arm and nerve damage, but he's expected to survive. the suspect fired at least 13 times, emptying the 9 millimeter handgun he was shooting. officer hartnett shot back, hitting the suspect who then ran away. the suspect, a 30 year old man, was shot at least 3 times and was apprehended a short distance away. (s/commissioner richard ross/philadelphia police1:15-1:25) "this is absolutely one of the scariest things i've ever seen. i mean this guy tried to execute the police officer. the police officer had no idea he was coming. uh... it's amazing he's alive." the suspect's name has not been released. hartnett was taken into surgery early friday and is expected to make a full recovery.

high school continue to remember a classmate who died earlier in the week. the students released balloons in honor of rosio delao who during a soccer match wednesday. during the match the 16 year old asked to be taken off the field because she was having an asthma attack. shortly after the sophomore came off the field, she passed out. an ambulance arrived and rushed her to the hospital where she died a few hours later. fire officials in washington state say an employee in a bikini coffee stand was into flames. calls started coming into 9-1-1 just before about a possible explosion. a young barista was inside the stand at the time and suffered burns to her while escaping the flames. investigators don't know what caused the fire but are looking into the possibility that propane tanks used to heat the stand
