thousands of dollars from a jewish temple in norfolk won't serve jail time. this morning leslie bradner pleaded guilty to stealing from her former employer. bradner handled the finances for the temple. only 10 on your side was in court this morning. our jason marks was there - and jason - bradner took a lot of money. she pocketed more than 60 thousand dollars. she left the job and months later an outside auditor discovered the missing funds. the big question tonight is why she took it. (under video) 03=23:48:41 "it's sad situation for both the temple and for leslie and her family" that situation has come to an end. a 16 old employee of temple israel-- a woman the congregation considered to one of its own admitted today in court she stole more than 60 thousand dollars. 02=23:47:15 "it couldn't be anyone else. she was in charged off all the money and writing the checks" leslie bradner worked at the temple for almost two decades. she suddenly left in september 2014. staff noticed there were some

that were paid late and others not paid at all. an outside auditor looked into the synagogue's books and discovered the missing money. 02=23:46:51 "we are glad that it is over because we trusted the lady" the stealing started in 2001 and ended when she resigned. brandner pleaded guilty to the crime today. the one thing we will never know is why she took the money. 03=23:49:06 "we are not going to address that it's done. it's over and i think i think people are just trying to move on at this point" brander's attorney did tell the judge she is seeing a mental health specialist. since this was her first dealing with the law-- the judge decided to not give her any jail time. as for the money-- it has already been paid back by bradner's father. temple members say it was like a punch in the gut but they are glad it's over. 02=23:47:03 "she was a member of the temple family and this is a real real tragedy for not only for the temple but her and her family" bradner was given 4 years in prison but the judge

time as long as she doesn't get into trouble for the next 5 years. she also has to do 250 hours of community service. now bradner might not publicly say why she took the money but court documents show she did it to help pay her bills. jason marks 10 on your sidde. time for a quick check of headlines from across the nation - in baltimore -- jury selection was supposed to begin today for officer caesar goodson. he's the second police officer to be tried in the death of freddie gray. but -- a last minute order from maryland's court of special appeals -- stopped the trial from moving forward. the order involves officer william porter. his trial ended in a mistrial last month. attorney's are trying to keep him from being forced to testify at goodson's trial. now -- the start of the trial won't be set until judges can decide if porter should be forced to testify. in boston -- the man accused of killing two year old bella bond will remain in jail -- without bail. michael mccarthy was arraigned in court today. he's charged with murdering the little girl who became known as baby

her body washed up on a beach in boston last summer. mccarthy's attorney says his client knowns nothing about bella's death. he claims the girls mother told him she had been taken away by child protective services. rachelle bond is accused of helping mccarthy hide the body. she's being held on a one million dollar bond. in texas -- mothers against drunk driving has launched an online petition demanding ethan couch's case be transferred to adult court. couch was recently arrested in mexico - where he remains - awaiting extradition. he was on probation for killing four people in a 2013 drunk driving accident. he was 16 at the time. attorneys used the "affluenza" defense -- suggesting he was too rich and spoiled to understand the consequences of his actions. madd says transferring the case to adult court gives the criminal justice system a chance to hold couch accountable. meanwhile, ethan's mother -- tonya couch was back in court this afternoon for a bond hearing. her bond is set at one million dollars. one of her sons testified

can't pay a bond that high. if she makes bond, couch will face a series of restrictions, including wearing an ankle monitor. she has pleaded not guilty on a charge of hindering apprehension of a fugitive. checking headlines around the world -- it could be a year before the drug lord known as el chapo is extradited to the united states. proceedings are under way in mexico for joaquin guzman. guzman was re-captured on friday after six months on the run. this video shows the police raid on his hideout in northern mexico. officials say el chapo's multi-billion- dollar cartel has been a major supplier of illegal drugs to the u-s. he was first arrested in 19-93 -- and has escaped from prison -- twice. the last time was in july, when he slipped through an underground tunnel beneath his cell. all new at five-thirty -- a historic night tomorrow. president barack obama will be giving his final state of the union address. ten on your side's congressional correspondent alex schuman tells us what we can expect to hear. trt: 01:21 00:22 - prof.

time to talk politics now -- where it's neck and neck in iowa -- for both democrats and republicans. let's start with the g-o-p race. according to the latest nbc news -- wall street journal marist poll -- republican senator ted cruz leads donald trump by just four points -- 28 to 24 --- among likely caucus-goers - that's within the margin of error. the same poll shows hillary clinton holds a three point lead over bernie sanders in iowa. and in new hampshire -- sanders is ahead of clinton -- 50 to 46. the numbers raise the possibility that -- despite her national

this country is diagnosed with breast cancer. but doctors have been divided on the appropriate age to start screening for the disease. today -- the u-s preventive services task force released new recommendations on mammograms. and once again - they're creating controversy in the medical world. nbc's erika edwards reports. s/ al siu, md - chair, u.s. preventive services ohio state university's james cancer hospital 1:10 s/ erika edwards - nbc news (nats mammogram) when it comes to screening women at the u-s preventive services task force finds mammograms offer the greatest benefit for women starting at age 50 .. with screening every other year. (sot: al siu, md - chair, u.s. preventive services task force - :17 - :26) "we've found that the best between the ages of 50 to 74." the task force says mammograms may indeed be beneficial for women in their 40s ... but that decision should be made by a woman and her doctor after discussing her personal risks. cost should not be a barrier because federal law mandates health insurers cover mammograms for women starting at age

the issue is that women in their early 40s are at lower risk for the disease... but at higher risk for false positives from mammograms. wavy news 10 at 6. announcer: now, from the station on your side, this is wavy news 10. nicole: the codes are back out with another flirtation of spring weather. tom: and there's yet another blast of winter weather on its way from the west. it is a double shot of cold air for hampton roads. a reminder that it is still january. there will really be a one-to punch. nicole: the system is headed our way midweek. temperatures only reaching into the 40's -- that's a beautiful shot there. i midweek, the blast causing a lot of snow for new york state will be here. chief meteorologist don slater is talking highs in the 30's. don: it is really going to get cold coming up.

it started out warm and stayed pretty warm. into the evening hours, temperatures started to drop. temperatures have indeed dropped and you can see into the 40's throughout the area. i want to show you what is going on. tomorrow evening, we will see the cold air start to move in. into friday, i was talking about the possibility of a flake or two of snow. look at these temperatures -- by 9:00, it is 36, 37 and looks like all the precipitation is gone as the cooler air starts to move them. i'm going to up date the forecast model and you will see that. i will have all of that coming
