this is 22 year old aeron nicholas etheridge he is accused of sexual assault and kidnapping a 17 year old clerk who worked at this econolodge. associated with the alleged tying up of the clerk. police say an attack did take place. after the attack etheridge left the motel and the clerk called 9-1-1. we are told she was taken to the hospital but has been released. etheridge made his way to his mother's home, he spends the right there, and she brings him back to the motel unaware of the assault that happened last night. they return to the scene of the crime-the motel and a clerk on duty there calls police who filled her in on what happened. the grandmother does not want us to use her name. ((once again what did the policeman tell you he told me he assaulted someone. tied some girl down and i don't' know what happened after he tied her down i cant tell you anything but that when they told you that what did you think..it was beyond what i could even imagine i couldn't

tore me up)) coming up at 5 in elizabeth city, andy fox 10 on your side a city council candidate robbed at gun point moments after dropping off his official paperwork at city hall. kendrick turner is a candidate in norfolk. 10 on your side's jason marks talked with turner. jason this had to be scary. kendrick turner says it was terrifying. he told me when he saw the barrell of that gun his life flashed before his eyes. yesterday afternoon tuner city council. he was walking home on park avenue near norfolk state when he says a man came up from behind him and pulled out a gun. turner handed over his check book, credit cards

the man took off runnin. turner says he is running for office on a platfrom to cut down crime and can't believe this happened. "i believe that no one should take advantage of anyone if you need money you ask for it if you don't know how to ask for it go get you a job" norfolk police tell me they are still looking for the suspect. if you have any information give them call. we'll have more on this story coming up at 5. jason marks 10 on your side. more layoffs could be coming at b-a-e systems. the shipyard has notified 530 employees that they could lose their jobs. a company spokesperson says the layoffs could happen around march 18th. more than 400 b-a-e employees lost their jobs last year. the reason: b-a-e says there are fewer navy ships in the area that need maintenance and modernization. the military has also changed it's scheduling and repair contract process. b-a-e systems employs about just over a thousand people. the medical examiner's office says it still

man found dead in the trunk of his mother's car died. a trooper pulled tonya slaton over in june on i-64 in hampton because of an expired registration. he then discovered her son, quincy davis' remains decomposing in trash bags in her trunk. davis was missing for more than 10 years. an autopsy couldn't determine a cause of death slaton is charged with a felony for concealing a body. she's due in court tomorrow. authorties have taken the skeletal remains of eight people found dead in virginia and created images of what they may have looked like - in hopes of closing cold cases. this man's remains were found on november frist, 1976 along the bank of the york river in james city county. he is of asian, hispanic and native american descent between 25 and 60 years old. this woman was found in york county - on november 29, 1972. her remains were in a wooded area off of walter mill road. she is

been 25-45 years of age. fbi forensic anthropologists and artists created the facial replicas. they have been used successfully before. look a this facial approximation alongside a picture of andre macklin. macklin's family saw the approximation in a 2011 newsreport. the chief medical examier's office then used new dna technologies to positively identify him. we have put these pictures and 6 more of people found in other parts of the state on wavy.com a developing story in suffolk. that's where police are investigating what happened today at a motel downtown. police say detectives were investigating a previous robbery at the super 8 on north main street this morning. that's when they heard what they thought was someone loading a gun inside a room. they called the swat team. a woman walked out of the room then police heard the sound of gunshots. police say a man then walked out of the room with a gunshot wound. he's in the hospital. the man who was shot during an attempted robbery at a metro p-c-s in

the hospital and in jail. sylvester lipscombe now faces robbery and gun charges. detectives say he also faces thsoe same charges for crimes in hampton. investigators say lipscombe robbed the metro p-c-s on j. clyde morris blvd on december 23rd. police say he tried to rob the same store again - five days later, but an employee shot him. we're working to find out more about the businesses he's charged with robbing in hampton. virginia beach police say this man burglarized a citgo gas station. detectives say he broke into the business on diamond springs road in november. if you recognize the suspect --- call the crime line. a school scare this morning in norfolk. a school spokesperson says someone called in a bomb threat to lake taylor middle school. students and staff stayed in the gym at lake taylor high school while police investigated. the school alerted parents to the threat by phone and text. they gave the all clear about 40 minutes later. a newport news elementary school will be closed again tomorrow as workers continue to remove lead paint. administrators say workers at hilton elementary school were

tonight you can learn more about a new road project in the works to try and help with traffic troubles in hampton roads. v-dot is hosting a meeting to update you about the i-564 intermodal connector project in norfolk. it will go from i-564, through naval station norfolk, and to the norfolk international terminals. the goal is to ease traffic and get trucks off city streets. the information meeting is tonight at six at sewells point elementary school on hampton boulevard. members of the project's design-build team will be there to answer your questions. the already record breaking powerball jackpot keeps getting bigger. it has grown to one-point-five billion dollars. the jackpot could get bigger if the strong ticket sales continue. the drawing is tomorrow night. the odds of winning are one in 292 million. lottery signs can't keep up with the powerball jackpot. the jackpot is so big billboards don't have

tomorrow -- lawmakers from across the commonwealth will kick off the start of this year's legislative session in richmond. delegates and senators from hampton roads have already filed dozens of bills. we sent 10 on your side's erin kelly to richmond for a preview of what to expect. we spent the day in the general assembly building -- where senators and delegates are working on filing bills by tomorrow's early deadline. among the issues we kept hearing about -- the

you can watch the state of the union tonight at 9 right here on wavy-tv 10. we're also streaming it live on wavy-dot- com. an army judge is considering how to handle thousands of documents that will be part of the case against the u.s. soldier charged with walking away from his post in afghanistan. sergeant bowe bergdahl's court- martial is set for august. this is video of bergdahl walking into a pre-trial hearing today at fort bragg, north carolina. the judge has to decide how the defense can use the classified information in those 300-thousand pages of documents to prepare its case. bergdahl disappeared from his base in afghanistan six years ago and was captured by the taliban. he was released in 2014 in exchange for five prisoners from guantanamo bay. bergdahl is charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. the mom of the so called "affluenza" teen is out of jail. a judge reduced tonya couch's bond yesterday from one million dollars to 75- thousand. the bond was posted late last night.

caught on tape. around the world --- as we continue to monitor the situation in iran involving two navy ships --- here are some other big stories we're following 10 people are dead and 15 injured after an explosion in a historic district of istanbul popular with tourists. turkey's president suspects a syria- linked suicide bomber is behind the attack near the famous blue mosque. the explosion could be heard from several neighborhoods. leaders from several countries are warning its citizens to avoid crowds outside tourist attractions in turkey. residents in iraq's capital are assessing the damage after the attack on a baghdad mall.

off a car bomb at the entrance. 18 people died and 50 others were hurt. nearby buildings and vehicles have a lot of damage. isis claimed responsibility for the attack. no one is hurt after an avalanche came down a mountain in the northern italian alps this morning a cabin owner filmed the avalanche on his cell phone. the video shows the blanket of snow coming down as people continued to ski and snowboard. once the snow reached the bottom of the valley, it caused a large blast that covered the small town. the front was from 700- to 900-feet wide. marine experts are trying to figure out why dozens of whales have washed ashore on india's southern coast. the short-finned pilot whales started washing up on beaches monday evening. rescuers took at least 36 of the mammals back to sea. but they appeared to be disoriented and some found their way back to the beach. these are mug shots of a wanted man. but the suspect doesn't like them. wait until you see what he did while he's on the run to make himself

details of the plan. we are talking about a 245-million dollar development that would include everything from a new pier, restaurants, a ferris wheel, parking, and even a time share resort. this is what it would look like. these are artist renderings of the proposed new development. you can see the big gerris wheeel - or sky wheel as its being called. the pictures also show descriptions of a new hotel, new restaurants and a new, updated pier. there are six families who own properties along the oceanfront who have joined together to create what they are calling the largest redevelopment in the southern portion of the oceanfront in the city's history. this is deemed a transformational redevelopment. the project is being funded by the families and private donors, but they are request the city to family - one of the

no victims were found underneath the debris. three people suffered minor injuries. investigators are examining what's left of an ohio home to determine what caused an explosion and fire that killed a family. a couple and their two daughters ages 8 and 12 died. the blast rocked the neighborhood outside cleveland last night. when firefighters responded --- flames were shooting from the home. "to see fire that big and that close like 30 feet high it was like wow, wow" right now --- the fire department does not suspect a gas leak. heartbreak for another family in ohio. police are investigating the murders of a woman and her two children. police say a woman's ex-boyfriend broke into her apartment early this morning and stabbed them. the kids are ages 6 and 8. investigators say the woman's current boyfriend arrived home and scuffled with the suspect. both men are in the hospital. police say the suspect will be charged when he's released.

after a nurse cut off her baby's toe. the little boy is currently at the university of new mexico hospital in albuquerque. he's been there since last april when he was born prematurely at 29 weeks. last month --- his mom says a nurse accidentally severed his pinky toe while cutting tape that was holding an i-v in his foot. the hospital investigated. it now uses a different tape. administration apologized. the baby's parents are considering legal action. a wanted man doesn't like his mug shot. so he sent the police department looking for him a selfie. 45-year-old donald pugh (pew) is wanted in ohio for failing to appear in court for a drunk driving case. these are the mugshots police are circulating to try and track him down. pugh snapped this selfie and sent it in with the message "here is a better photo that one is terrible". police hope the selfie helps them track pugh down. a scare in the sky and on the ground in california. a plane made an emergency landing yesterday afternoon on a freeway
