a teenaged girl is recovering, after being sexually assaulted while she was working at a motel. a suspect has been charged with a sex offense and kidnapping. 10 on your side's andy fox is investigating this case. andy what have you learned? police confirm the 17 year old victim was raped. we spent the day looking for answers on how this happened and how it ended. 22 year old aeron nicholas etheridge checked into this elizabeth city econo lodge last week. a clerk describes him as creepy,

with each other to stay away from him, but not dangerous enough to call police on him. police say last night etheridge attacks a 17 year old ties her up and sexually assaults her. after the attack etheridge heads to his mothers house claiming he had to run from the motel for smoking dope in his room. the mother does not want us to use her name (9:36 29) ((girls that cleaned said they smelled marijuana in his room and said he was on the room for that. he came up here about 12 last night he told me that i said i can't see well enough to take you back to the motel tonight so you are going to have to stay here and sleep on the couch for the night)) runs: 17 in the morning the two return to the scene of the crime in this car. the mother a (9;56 29) ((then we went back to the motel that's when she asked me to stick around and he's out there in my vehicle. i had it

could lose their jobs. a company spokesperson says the layoffs could happen around march 18th. more than 400 b-a-e employees lost their jobs last year. the company says: the notices are the result of lower demand for its services. there are fewer navy ships in the area that need maintenance and modernization. the military has also changed it's scheduling and repair contract process. b-a-e systems employs about 1000 people. school schedule disrupted for a bomb threat this morning in norfolk. a school spokesperson says someone called in a bomb threat to lake taylor middle this morning. students and staff stayed in the gym at lake taylor high school while police investigated. the school alerted parents to the threat by phone and text. hilton elementary school in newport news is closed so workers can remove lead paint. administrators say workers were stripping old paint monday when they discovered the lead-based paint. that paint is now being removed. hilton elementary will stay closed until air quality tests show normal readings. the medical examiner's office says it still doesn't know how a young man

found in a trunk last summer. a trooper pulled tonya slaton over in june on i-64 in hampton , for an expired registration. he then discovered her son, quincy davis' remains decomposing in trash bags in her trunk. davis had been missing for more than 10 years. an autopsy couldn't determine a cause of death slaton is charged with a felony for concealing a body. she's due in court tomorrow. detectives need your help solving several cold cases-- and they want you to check out images of what they may have looked like. authorities have taken the skeletal remains of eight people found dead in virginia-- and created the images. (news graphics: james city county remains.jpg) this man's remains were found on november first, 1976 along the bank of the york river in james city county. he is of asian, hispanic and native american descent between 25 and 60 years old. tonight portsmouth city council will vote on allowing food trucks on private property, which is currently against city code. for instance, one council person pointed out the trucks that sell sausages outside of most lowe's stores are not currently allowed at the portsmouth store. tonight's vote could change that. farm bureau live is no more. the venue is still part of the virginia beach concert scene, but the name has changed it's now the 'veterans united home loans ampitheatre'. also announced today: the

new at five -- a widow of war in virginia beach could soon get a survivor benefit that she was technicality. investigation brought the loophole to her lawmaker, and now he's fighting to make things right for the mother of four who lost her husband in battle. investigative reporter chris horne has more on why the law needs to be changed. we first reported on this injustice in november. virginia voters passed a law that is supposed to work like this... a service member gets killed in action, and the surviving spouse gets an exemption on property tax on the family home. but because of a definition for "killed in

senate. it would take effect july first and enable christy billings to get the benefit she deserves. we continue to follow breaking news coming out of the pentagon. two navy boats are in iranian custody. but iran is assuring the u-s: the crew and vessels will be "returned promptly". the pentagon says they briefly lost contact with the small boats in the persian gulf, and that 10 americans were on board. we understand this incident happened near farsi island which is in the middle of the persian gulf. u-s officials said one of the boats may have had some type of mechanical issue causing them to run aground. secretary of state john kerry has been on the phone with the iranian foreign minister working to get these sailors released. anchors ad-lib toss tonight: stray showers before 10pm...maybe a flurry or two for the northern neck. otherwise, cold! lows fall into the

some popular drugs used to treat heartburn may be associated with higher rates of chronic kidney disease. researchers at johns hopkins university found a link between 'proton pump inhibitors' and kidney damage. p-p-i's include nexium, prilosec and prevacid. this does not mean those particular drugs cause kidney disease. nine retailers have recalled two flavors of store branded children's liquid cold medicine. the dosage cup contains incorrect markings that could lead to an overdose. the perrigo company manufactures the medicine that is sold nationally under several different brand

police in sweden have been accused of covering up mass sexual assaults-- allegedly committed by refugees at a summer festival in stockholm. police hadn't mentioned the incidents at the "we are stockholm festival", until a swedish newspaper reported on them over the weekend. the newspaper
