before they do that, they are hearing what residents think about it. brandy: tom, the ideas to get citizens input before they finalize their body camera policies. by 2017 the department plans to have most of the uniformed patrol officers wearing those body cameras. or have been some civil rights groups like the american civil liberties union or the aclu that have been very critical of policies related to body cameras. in october we told you that the aclu said they examined body camera policies across the state and found that they were inconsistent at best and chaotic at worst. the group called for a uniform policy that would specify details such as what actions and events should be filmed. those privacy concerns will be

we did interview captain todd jones who is the lead researcher on the body cameras here in virginia beach. i asked him if the public and expect to see more of the body camera video to be released for greater transparency. captain jones: we want to educate people that it is not always just a matter of who we don't want to release it. the law is very specific in the state law and it says what we can release and what we can to releas can't release. in many cases it would not be wise for us to release this information. we will follow the law and in a lot of cases it means not releasing the video. brandy: citizens do have a chance to speak directly to have been here all about the cameras. tonight's forum is one of two is being held. you can see the information there on your screen tonight's forum goes from 6:00 to 8:00. next saturday there will be another one.
