on westbound i-64 around noon. during the stop - a white man in the backseat - who we're told is wanted for felony warrants - fled on foot, toward thomas nelson. both thomas nelson and odu's peninsula higher education center went on lockdown. we spoke with students - who say it was an alarming couple of hours. sot -- c2 tyler nelson - hours, in there doing nothing, i mean for the longest time it was so tense it was so quiet you couldn't say anything (runs :08) again we're told the suspect who fled - we don't know his name -is still on the run. meantime, police charged the driver of that vehicle - 19-year-old janelle quicho of newport news with reckless driving. another passenger, 21 year old dehjan williams, of newport news was charged with possession of marijuana an earlier alert sent out by the odu peninsula center stated that this was connected to a shooting investigation elsewhere-- we are

aeron etheridge will be back in court january 28th, he remains in jail on a $300,000 bond. a woman is in critical condition-- following a home invasion in portsmouth. she was shot last night inside a house on queen street, near london boulevard and martin luther king freeway. police say three suspects got into a car and drove off after the shooting. newport news police are trying to find who shot a 17-year-old boy. police found the victim on 18th street and ivy avenue. the bullet hit his back. we are still working to get more information from police. a man is in the hospital after a shooting in hampton. it happened around 9-30 last night on martha lee drive. police say his injuries are not considered life-threatening. detectives are investigating a motive and searching for a suspect. a man will spend 35 years behind bars for killing a popular bus driver on the eastern shore. michael press learned his sentence today, following his murder conviction in accomac county yesterday.

that have happened? 10 on your side's jason marks spoke with a local attorney who says "no". jason no is right. felony eluding is usually used in high speed chases but even the sheriff says that wasn't the case. 01=1:04:53 "it's clear that the mayor and the sheriff aren't getting along" that feud was given an exclamation point after portsmouth city council met tuesday night. sheriff bill watson says he tried to tell mayor kenny wright his inspection sticker was 7 months expired. the mayor kept driving and started what he calls a slow speed chase. watson ended up charging wright with felony eluding. 01=1:02:01 "the mayor clearly disregard the sheriff" virginia beach attorney tim anderson has no horse in the race-- but he says even with the mayor's actions he should have never been charged with a felony-- because that's usually reserved for high speed chases. 01=1:02:20 "i suspect the magistrate heard evidence from the sheriff that he felt that he was endanger by the mayor driving off

anderson says that would make the charge-- not a felony but a class two misdemeanor. 01=1:04:14 "as a defense attorney all you can do is try the case and argue that the section of the specific facts of this case" that doesn't change the fact that the mayor's car hadn't been inspected- and the he should have stopped. 01=1:04:57 "at the end of the day the sheriff is a law enforcement officer and if he puts his lights on in a motor vehicle you have to stop" the next time the was clearly being vindictive in what he was doing but he is enforcing a valid law in virginia and one we are all supposed to have" the mayor's attorney told us yesterday that he feels it wasn't a felony and he plans to fight it. he'll have his first chance when the case goes to court later this month. jason marks 10 on

employees with norfolk public works went above and beyond the call of duty. this is a picture from their facebook page. you can see the man is holding a small kitten. the vactor truck crew rescued her from a storm drain yesterday. she was named stormy after where she was found and of course her stormy gray color. right now she is recovering at the norfolk animal care center. another sea turtle is recovering at the virginia aquarium and marine science center. the juvenile green turtle has been named rainier. it arrived yesterday. its the second cold-stunned turtle of the season, they're caring for. rainier came in with a body temperature of less than 50 degrees. kiptopeke state park sent the turtle here. the first turtle, named "petrified forest", arrived a little less than a week ago. that turtle is in

a tuskegee airman presumed dead in world war two was honored at arlington national cemetery this morning. second lieutenant samuel leftenant received full military honors. he was escorting bombers to austria in 19-45, when his plane collided with another u-s airman's plane. the other parachuted, and became a p-o-w, but leftenant was never heard from again. he was declared missing in action then declared dead in 19-46 because he was never found. he was posthumously awarded the air medal and a purple heart today. a report by a world anti-doping agency panel blames corruption for failure to stop a doping scandal in russia. the report says the international association of athletics must restructure to ensure corruption can't go unchecked. considerable blame was laid on the i-a-a-f council. the report on doping in russia also detailed a relationship between the i-a-a-f's former president and russian president vladimir putin.
