matt: jim bradley lives nearby and somewhat police initially saw. a silver car that crashed into a vehicle. >> i think it could have been an accident. when i got there there had been some shooting. matt: it was more than that. a witness who refused to give his identity or be interviewed said he saw suspects inside the van shoot the man-to-man run from the scene. >> shoot the man inside and then run from the same. matt: newport news officers shot the suspect if you blocks away. >> we have a very vague description, a black male with a blue jackets. matt: hours later, neighbors

we are live now in hampton with an update. reporter: here things are back to normal. those lockdowns were lifted at 2:00 this afternoon, but that suspect is still on the run and two others face charges. only chopper 10 was there at the start of the search. you can see the police with the k9 unit still searching the area. this began when state police stopped a nissan ultima that had been driving recklessly on the i-64. a man wanted on felony charges fled from the backseat toward thomas nelson. we spoke with students who say it was a scary time.

saw a state trooper pullout a ginormous gun. when i got on campus i got a text alert. reporter: again, we are told the suspect who flood is still on the run. we don't know his name, but officers are searching for him. police charged the driver, janelle quicho, with reckless driving. dehjan williams was charged with possession of marijuana. an earlier alert sent out by the campus said this search had to do with a shooting investigation nearby. however, police say that is not the case. research just had to do with the suspect fleeing following the traffic stop. we are told the suspect is still on the run for now. tom: change on the way in the weather department.

portsmouth home invasion near london boulevard on queens street. three suspects got into a car andro drove off after the shooting. we are trying to figure out if anything was taken from her home. arrangements are made tonight to say farewell to a norfolk police dog. it will be held next tuesday at the canine helene arrange for kreiger. the suspect, keith richards, was also shot. the ceremony is private, but the public is welcome to pay tribute along the procession road. nicole: another major change for the hampton roads congressional delegation. scott mitchell will not run for reelection. he was elected in 2010. he said today he was proud of what he has accomplished and has

bruce withtom: the man accused of raping a city motel clerk appeared in court. the 22-year-old heard the sex and kidnapping charges against him.

tricked the clerk into bringing soap and do his room and then jumped her from behind. he tied her hands and rape her. he then walked to his grandmother's house. she brought him back to the motel, unaware he had assaulted the clerk. >> they told us you raped her. did you? tell us what happened. >> we did not talk to the immediate family. the evidence at the hotel and the witness statements all point to one person. >> the witness says you are the one who attacked her. can you explain why after it happened you want to your grandmother's house. nicole: etheridge is back in court january 28. tom: is the charge against the portsmouth mayor over the top?

the felony charge is fitting for this. jason: this comes down to two charges. there is a felony eluding, punishable with five years in jail. or, the misdemeanor that only has a fine. >> the entire thing was shocking, quite frankly. reporter: the reactiion might just be shocking. the mayor was charged by the sheriff with felony eluding. lights in the rearview mirror from a police officer, you are not going to say, well, that is a police officer i don't like so i am not going to pull aware. reporter: sheriff bill watson explain what happened. he tried to tell the mayor that his inspection sticker was expired, but the mayor refused to pull over >> they are not

reporter: they could not believe that kenny wright was felony eluding. that is a charge normally reserved or high-speed chase is. -- for high-speed chases. >> you can only deal with the section of the law that deals with the life or property. it does not apply to this case. at the end of the day, the sheriff is a law enforcement officer. if he puts his wife's on, you have to stop. reporter: the mayor did stop until police arrived. anderson believes that charge will be reduced. tom: the attorney will most likely reviewed the case to maker it was the right charge. they did place a call to that office, would not -- did place a call to that office, but have not heard back. announcer: now, your forecast

don: it was around 25 degrees around midnight. then, it held steady around freezing. it was a beautiful day today and it will be a beautiful day tomorrow. tomorrow late in the day we will see cloud cover roll in, accompanied by rain. rainfall totals for tomorrow night, i think this 1.6 inches is a little too high. i think we could see 1.25 inches coming up. that will be tomorrow evening through about 2:00 a.m. let's look at our computer model. we will extend through saturday evening. southwest winds tonight at nine miles per hour. they will be at seven miles per hour tomorrow morning. cloud cover starts to move on in. at 3:00, it will be in the upper 50's for the day on friday. we have a southeastern wind at

we have 5-15 miles per hour at 7:00 p.m. these winds will gust hired during the evening hours. a low pressure area climbs north east right through our part of the world. here is where things are at the midnight hour. i tend to think we will see stronger winds through here. they will be on the eastern shore. that is at midnight. by 2:00 a.m., that rainfall is done. some of the rainfall could be fairly heavy tomorrow evening. by 4:00, it is gone and we see in northwestern wind. we will be 56 degrees at 7:00 a.m. that western brees will bring drier air in. here is saturday at noon and then saturday at the end of the day with a light northwestern wind at 10-15 miles per hour.

sunday morning, uh oh. here is that area we have been watching. this forecast model has been doomsday regarding snow. it has backed off. it looks perhaps, like a s pare sprinkle or two. moving into monday morning. monday during the noon hour, we will see the skies clear out. i think we are looking pretty good coming up at the only really big going up. that will be tomorrow evening as the rainfall moves through. otherwise, things are quiet throughout the weekend. we have beautiful sunsets with cloud cover off to the southwest. temperatures are mostly in the mid 40's to around the 50-52 degree mark. we will take a look at the temperatures and what we have going on in the map. some readings are in the mid 40's right now.

we will see things drop into the 30's overnight. they will not reach the 20's like last night. here is where things are with a wider basis. this shows you what is going on tomorrow morning. we dropped down to 41 and 39 degrees for most of us on the hampton road cities. during the afternoon tomorrow we warm up to about 58 degrees with cloud cover increasing throughout the day. if you stray showers arrive at 5:00 p.m. and then by 9:00, we have a more general rainfall throughout the area. on sunday we do turn colder at 46 degrees. 40 is normal. and then we go much below normal next week. join us at 11:00. i will have the latest with what is going on tomorrow. brian: changes in the nfl. the nation's fourth longest home
