earlier today as the snow was flying. it didn't create as many travel issues on the south side as it did in the peninsula. as you can see in a lot of the pictures you submitted to report it at wavy dot com -- more snow covered the ground in newport news, hampton and points north through williamsburg. don't forget you can send your weather pictures -- by clicking on the report it feature on the top of our website. tonight - the snow has mostly moved out of the area. here's a live look from tower cam 10 over downtown norfolk and portsmouth. but, the big concern now -- is the dropping temperatures. meteorologist ashley baylor is in the super doppler 10 weather center to let us know what issues the cold may cause tonight... tonight: decreasing clouds. watch out for icy roads. lows: mid-20s. winds: w 10-15 mph. mlk jr. day: mostly sunny. chilly. highs: low-30s. winds: w 10-15 mph. tuesday: sunny skies. chilly. highs: low-30s. winds: w 10-15 mph. it was a good thing we had snow on a weekend when no one had school and most people didn't have to work, because the roads got pretty messy!

snow fell north and west of the metro, especially along the peninsula, middle peninsula, northern neck, and eastern shore. the snow came down at such a rapid rate, that it coated the grass, cars, and roads. even though the storm has moved out of hampton roads, the quality of the roads will still be a concern. any snow, slush, or puddles left on the roads will freeze overnight with temperatures dropping back into the mid-20s. it's a good thing most of you may need to give yourself some extra time in case you run into any slippery quite chilly with highs only in the low-30s. it'll remain chilly through tuesday and wednesday. temperatures will start to rebound by thursday and friday, but by then, we may be tracking another coastal storm. the jury exact track is key! we'll keep you updated on that one throughout the week. if you still want to send us your snowy pictures, twitter pages! a huge thank you to everyone who

west of hampton roads have the most snow on the ground. 10 on your side's matt gregory is live in hampton where people are navigating through the winter weather. matt? deanna, here on the peninsula most of the afternoon people saw snow falling across the region. depending on who you talked to, it was either the winter they waited for or the driving hazard they wanted to avoid. from newport news up to williamsburg snow laid out over the landscape. one driver said earlier in the day traffic was much worse. he saw cars slip and slide in different areas. main roads for us had slush and seemed slick. back roads and side roads certianly have potential to be icy. in williamsburg tourists and students turned out to enjoy one of the few winter scenes they've had. the ice skating rink picked up business from one end of the peninsula to the other, one man's uneasy driving day was a another's winter wonderland. county and williamsburg are the places crews are especially keeping an eye on. paula miller says v-dot is prepared for any slick spots on the roads this evening. icy conditions and speed led to a deadly crash in sussex county this afternoon. state police say 74-year-old nancy leigh smith died when her car crashed into a tree on route 31 - east of route 617. another person in the car was also hurt. police believe smith may have been speeding. she was not wearing a seatbelt. they say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. police in chesapeake three crashes early this afternoon. photojournalist aaron kurtz. you can see the car there- in a ditch near dock landing road. they haven't said if weather contributed to any of these crashes. you may want to take a download our wavy weather app. you can keep track of the cold temps moving in and stay connected all winter long. it's free for both apple and android users. still ahead - a person is

we have a follow-up to a story we brought to you this morning on wavy news 10 today. we now know a wrong-way crash is the reason behind a deadly accident on 164 westbound in portsmouth. suffolk dispatch got the first calls around 3:30 this morning about the wrong-way driver. the accident killed a 38-year-old woman and badly injured a 25-year-old man. officers are still investigating tonight. up next - a deadly night in gloucester county. you'll hear from people shooting happened in

breaking news from the middle east - the u-s embassy in baghdad confirms that several americans are missing in iraq. local media

three americans were kidnapped by militias. embassy spokesman scott bolz says that u-s authorities are working with the full cooperation of iraqi authorties in trying to locate the missing americans. one person is dead and three others injured after an overnight shooting in gloucester county. it happened at the intersection of ditchley road and gill lane around 12:30 this morning. tonight, deputies believe they have the shooter in custody. 10 on your side's joe fisher is back from gloucester county -- and joe, what can you tell us. deanna -- we're learning tonight the shooting happened just down the road from a very large party. i talked with the people who threw that party. they tell me they don't know anyone involved --- but they also didn't know many of the people at their house last night. lexus walton/gloucester county ((c81 34:32)) "it was a big party friday night, too, so i'm sure more poeople from friday brought more people saturday." beer bottles and beer boxes litter the front yard of this home on gill lane in gloucester county sunday -- after night two of lexus walton's birthday bash. lexus

((c81 32:09)) "i couldn't move in the house, so i didn't think that this many people were going to be here and about multiple shots fired just down the street -- at the intersection of ditchley road. marquel wilson/gloucester county ((c80 29:45-29:55)) "the music and stuff was still playing and then rumor went around that somone got shot. that's when everyone tried to rush out of here, but the cops told them they couldn't leave." deputies say 18-year-old dijon whitter of hampton va. shot four people around 12:30 --- one of them died inside a parked car. those at the party say investigators came by their house asking questions. the scene still active until morning when neighbor bill perry left was all opened, doors opened, windows opened, truck opened and he said four people had been shot, one was dead. i asked if they were local and he said they were from across the river." the three other victims flagged down a ride to nuttall's country store less

domingo from newark, new jersey. the plane landed after pilots noticed a problem with the right engine. none of the 213 passengers or crew on the plane had any injuries. developing news now from chesterfield county. that's where fire officials are trying to devestating fire that left five people - including two children dead. our sister station in richmond reports crews got to the scene around 3:15 this morning and saw heavy witnesses reported hearing a big boom. 10 people were inside at the time. five escaped with the help of firefighters. five others - including a one-year- old and three-year-old died. two firefighters also went to the hospital

car smashing into a gas station in sydney, australia -- nearly hitting a woman inside. surveillance cameras shows the accident as it happens. the woman disappears from sight as the car flies into the convenience store. it appears she is hit...but the car just misses her. store workers pulled two people inside the car out to safety. police are investigating to determine what caused the accident--and if the driver was drinking. a u-s soldier was found beaten to death on a street in indiana. the body of 27-year-old jodie henderson was found yesterday outside of his car in south bend... authorities say he someone used a brick to beat him in the head. detectives are now looking for the person responsible. tim corbett/officer says:"guys use to fight, it's going to happen, guys are going to hit each other, but that's not the case anymore...it always seems to be the most violent, it always has to be taken to the extremes. people away. it's dangerous." police are asking for the the crime. still ahead - we continue

breaking news from newport news. police tell us an 11 year old boy is missing. police say ma'alik herbert edwards was last seen around noon this afternoon. this is a picture of the boy police have put on its facebook page.

using a dog to look for edwards. he left his home on 36th street with an unkown friend. if you have any information call police. pope francis continues to pray for the victims of recent extremist attacks in burkina faso and indonesia. the pope led today's prayer as he greeted crowds in saint peter's square, inviting them to pray for the dead and for international peace efforts. at least 28 people died in an attack friday by al-qaeda-linked militants on a hotel and cafe in burkina faso's capital. eight others died in a suicide bombing and gunfire attacks by islamic extremists in jakarta, indonesia on thursday. at least 13 people are dead and 14 injured in a at the residential compound. officials say a people were crowded in a guesthouse for a family event. the compound is close to the pakistani consulate, targeted last week in an attack claimed by isis.
