slow drip the faucets indoors and outdoors. we'll have more on what happens overnight and we'll talk about what's going to happen wednesday night and over the weekend. lots of stuff to talk about in my forecast. tom: we're on your side with a reminder, close the vents outside your house, open cabinets if your sink is on an outside wall in the kitchen or bathroom and drip those faucets. if your pipes do freeze, keep the faw et open so water will flow when it melts. apply heat to the frozen area, like heating pad or hair dryer. don't use an open flame or kerosene or propane heater. of course you can track temperatures in your neighborhood and see where it's going hour by hour on the wavy weather app. also tonight, a positive ending to a story that could have turned out tragically. deanna: an 8-year-old boy disappears from his home in williamsburg. we sent you the text alert on

this morning about the boy who vanished just a few hours before that about three hours ago we found he didn't stray far from home. more oen -- on the chaotic day and the happy results of the story. reporter: to it's been a bitterly cold day. it was hard for any of us to imagine an 8-year-old boy away from home, out here somewhere without his coat but it turns out he never left his ohm. -- his home. a little boy without a coat, miss furg hours on a frigid winter day that report from a home on john pinkney lane set off a search including more than 80 people. the fire department said the family of 8-year-old zeb gross didn't know where he was at 7:00 a.m. they'd last seen him at the home in the middle of the night. crews set up a command post from

blood hounds looked for his scent, helicopters searched from above. just after 3:00, the best possible news he was zeb was in a crawl space under the home. >> he was locate. he was checked out by the fire department medical staff, he's in good health, he's in good condition. he's been reunited with his family. with no further medical treatment needed at this time he really hasn't said where e went or why he left and we're going to kind of leave that up to his mom and dad to talk to him about. we're just happy that we were able to locate him and he's back with his family right now. reporter: the fire department said he was in a space crews searched earlier in the day but they had no luck finding him earlier he came out willingly, didn't appear to be scared. for him and his family, it's a good night. tom: now to gloucester county

four people over the weekend. deion witters is in jail for the crime. one victim was found dead inside a car, the other three are expected to recover. still many unanswered questions about the crime tonight. liz has more. reporter: 18-year-old dijon witter of hampton shot and killed one person and hurt three others. those three are expected to be ok and we're working to confirm the identity of the person killed. witter is behind bars without bond. just 18 years old and accused of murder. investigators say dijon winter of hampton shot four people, wounding three and killing one. >> there's about 15 cops down the road trying to investigate what's going on. >> it happened down the road from a party lexus was throwing on guild lane. according to the gloucester county sheriff's office, one person was found shot to death

with ditchley road around 12:30 sunday morning. >> we saw the cops back again. everyone started freaking out and just left. >> i'm sorry someone got hurt but it was just too many people here, i have no idea who those people were at all. >> three other victims were found less than amile away from the intersection at a store. they had reportingly deliflagged down a driver for help. a girl went to a nearby home seeking help, telling the homeowner that her friends had been shot. witter was arrested the same day. >> it's a crime scene, i couldn't -- there was a back door, -- black car, doors all open, trunk open he, said four people had been shot and one was dead. >> three of the victims are expected to survive. we're working to learn the name of the person killed. we've been in touch with people who claim the victim is their loved one but police say they have not confirmed the identity yet.

newsroom. tom: we will continue to follow all developments in this story. look for updates between newscasts on wavy.com. deanna: a deadly crash under investigate in chesapeake this video came into our facebook page of the crash on blackwood road and margaret drive. the driver was taken to the hospital where he died. it's believed a medical condition led to the crash. a followup to a fire we've been following, working to get answers on the cause of this early morning fire in portsmouth. only "10 on your side" has video from this scene on des moines avenue. flames ripped through the home, damaging to the point of the roof caving. in the six people inside the home got out safely but lost everything they owned. the red cross is helping the victims. >> a number of events across the area to honor the legacy of dr. martin luther king jr. people fwathered for a ceremony in march.

speeches. after the ceremony, people marced to the martin luther king monument where a wreath was placed to remember the civil rights leader. "10 on your side" also in chesapeake for a breakfast held in dr. king's honor. bishop e.w. jackson honored police officers at this morning's events. jackson said in his remarks, officers are part of the fabric of the community. high school students were also awarded scholarships at this event. >> still -- deanna: still to come, are car services doing more than just getting people from here to there? the factor they may be playing in deadly drunk driving crashes. coming up. tom: what would it take to pump a lot of good-paying jobs into hampton roads? a group wants to take that on. see what they say is needed to do that. in sports the conference playoffs set in the nfl. bruce looks at what's next.

only thing in don's forecast. tom: gasoline prices continue to tumble across the nation. nationally prices are down seven cents a glan from last week. in hampton roads down about a nickel. the national average, $1.89, in our area it's $1.67. you can find prices on this wave.com from the peninsula as low as $1.50 a gallon. turns out ride sharing services like uber and lyft may have a bigger benefit than convenience. deanna: they may be ceying lyes

decrease in alcohol related crashes on our roads. there's been a 22% decrease in those crashes that were deadly. virginia d.o.t. commissionest said while it may be too soon to say that the availability of uber and lyft played a major role in that, there appears to be a connection. tom: what can be done to fix the job market? see who is setting up a big plan for more jobs and higher wages, next. deanna: and check out the photo galleries of wave.com for some of your weekend snow pictures. don has a look at a possible

the break. tom: last place. that's where hampton roads sits at growing jobs when compared to cities with similar populations. deanna: and that's a place where our region needs to get out of and soon. the question is how? tom: we have an in depth look at our economy and the steps being taken so you and your children have a better future in hampton roads. reporter: there's a certain beauty to our area, a place steeped in history, sur rounded by sparkling water and breathtaking views. but there's an ugly truth. >> if it wasn't for births exceeding death we'd be losing population as a region. reporter: losing population. people are leaving. can you blame them?

between 2010 and 2013, hampton roads came in last at gring jobs out of 35 regions with a similar population. our area is growing jobs at a rate one fourth the national average. let's break those numbers down for you even further. since 20 10, the charlotte area added more than 167,000 jobs. raleigh added more than 86,000. but in hampton roads, jobs added totaled slightly more than 17,600. it's a problem and one many residents we spoke with say all comes down to a lack of cooperation. >> i think each city is for itself. >> i think norfolk, portsmouth, virginia beach are in it for themselves. >> seems like it would make the most sense to work together and work as one rather than separate entities. reporter: enter jim spoor, creator of reinvent hampton roads.

total reliance on military, tourism and the port. and certainly we cherish those as the three stools of our economic foundation here but we also need to diversify that economy. reporter: the question is how? >> biotechnology, for example. unmanned aerial vehicles. modeling and simulation. there's a lot of existing strengths in the region. reporter: senator mark langley agrees. >> leveraging langley, so many of our other sites, leveraging the ability to test dropethovers ocean. we could make virginia the lead for the unmanned systems. reporter: senator warner wants to focus on layoffs an hirings with the shipyard. >> if we can smooth that out with more predictability you'd see much less disruption in the local economy.

to find a way to grow jobs in the hampton roads region. >> it's time to start doing things that will make a difference on the long haul. tom: the question is, when can you expect to see progress on the job front? spoor says they're working on ideas that will have an impact within the next year but the largest growth could take up to 10 years. >> now your super doppler 10 forecast with chief meteorologist don slater. don: we're going to focus on a couple of things. number one, how cold it is, and overnight, how cold it's going to get. the next thing we'll look to is toward the weekend. that's our next weather event moving on in, a little wishy-washy on what it's going to be yet. it's awfully far into the future. cloud cover over the area, not much there. we're seeing skies which are clear as cab kb throughout the area. here's a live picture. 26, 30 degrees right now into

26, 28, 30 degrees. very, ver chilly. highs around 32 to 35. here's where we go during the overnight hours. it will likely be around 15, 16, 14 degrees into a few inland rural areas. around 20 degrees around the coastline. 14 even toward williamsburg. sometimes there is in williamsburg a little more low-lying, now the wind will remain up just a little bit near the shoreline during the overnight hours. that's going to hold the temperature up a tat. it's pretty much solidly in the 20's for lows into the eastern shore. you'll see a little more wind overnight. the windchill, 10 degree, eight, nine degrees. near the shoreline a little higher because of the fact that we've got a little wind near the shoreline as well. the biggest thing will be the cold air overnight. we'll return to that and show you specifically what i expect overnight for so of the region during the overnight hours. the next thing we'll look at is what's going on in terms of cloud cover.

overnight and tomorrow morning. farther inland b, only 10-mile-per-hour winds. that will allow the temperature to drop on down that 10 to 15-mile-per-hour wind passing over waters temperatures around 45, 48, will hold the temperature up. it will only rise to around 29, 30 degrees for the afternoon tomorrow. warmer on wednesday. likely around 38, 39. here comes some cloud cover. you'll notice there's a few flurries toward the mountains at 7:00 in the evening on wednesday evening. the colder air that we got going on, now we step up to the next thing going on. we are seeing flurries to our west on wednesday evening. wednesday late at night we could see some of those pass on through rather quickly. little to no accumulation. that's how cold it's going to be. by thursday, though, we start to warm back on up. thursday looks fine. friday, not so much. friday morning, we can see a little bit of mixture in the area, quickly changing over to

significantly for the dion friday and into saturday morning. there we are, saturday morning at 7:00. this forecast models a little snow into the area. i'll show you a couple other ones that will scare you for snowfall for richmond and westward. but i'm not going to, i think it would be irresponsible to show you this far in advance something that may or may not happen and panic you. overnight, cold, 19, 20 degrees. exposed pipes could freeze in inland areas, around 15, 19 degrees farther inland. then we get to the peninsula. we're looking at temperatures around 16 to 20 degrees. areas away from the water, much munching colder overnight. cold tomorrow. a few flurries late, late. thursday and friday we warm up significantly. again, saturday we'll stay tuned on that one.

forecast models that are scary. it's sheer speculation at this point. the weather system that create this is is over the gulf of alaska in the north pacific. we want to watch it. the big thing is freezing the pipes overnight, drip the faucets. i'll have more coming up on wave news 10 at 11:00. >> championship weekend coming

talk about it next. bruce: only two more games to decide who plays in the 50'sth super bowl. the stage is set for the nfl championship games this weekend. last call for one of the greatest rivalries in nfl history, brady vs. manning 17. tom brady breezed into his fifth straight affect championship game and the 10th of his career as a result of the patriots over the once but no longer chiefs on saturday. unfortunately, this is the first time in this compelling rivalry between manning and brady two good friends, that it is a -- i think it's a mismatch. tom new 39 years old, the greatest quarterback of all time, having another outstanding year. he's 28-8 in playoff games with six super bowl appearances and four championships. manning, who will be 40 in march, could be considered the great etc. regular season

for this season where he was horrible before being benched in mid november. he didn't play again until the third quarter of the final game though he did start yesterday and he led the broncos to victory over the steelers who earned what might be his final shot at brady on the nfl's second biggest stage. meanwhile, two former heisman trophy winning quarterbacks, both number one draft picks, will square off in the n.f.c. championship game with 26-year-old -- when 26-year-old cam newton will lead his carolina panthers against 36-year-old carson palmer and his arizona cardenals. both men had great college careers, palmer at southern cal after a superb regular season, carson was a little too conservative in the first half of arizona's overtime win over the packers he threw two interception bus came through at the end with two great passes to larry fitzgerald. he'll have to play much better sunday to beat the panthers.

nfl he won the heisman eight years after palmer did, after leading auburn to the national championship. he got his first playoff win last season against the cardinals in the wild card game. he's won the hearts of all carolina fans and both he and palmer will be playing in their first conference championship game, both hoping to add super bowl quarterback to the resume on sunday. everybody loves buzzer beaters, especially when the local teams pulls it off and it happened saturday night with old dominion freshman playing less than an hour away from her hometown. drained this 40-footer, leading the lady monarches to a three-point win over middle tennessee tasms top 10 play on espn's "sportscenter" but more importantly, gave o.d.u. a cherished conference u.s.a. victory on the road. >> i mean, i felt like i made my hometown proud mitigating circumstance family proud.
