live updates since our four o'clock newscast. what's happening now, lex. fire broke out at the s. wallace edwards smokehouse in surry county tuesday afternoon, reportedly followed by an explosion. tamara arthur, emergency services coordinator for the county, told wavy.com they received a report of the smokehouse on fire around 12:40 p.m. tuesday. more than two hours later, flames were still visible. according to firefighters on scene, they expect to dump up to 75,000 gallons of water to get the fire under control. the plant was open and operating when the fire started, but arthur said there have been no reported injuries and no reports of anyone trapped inside. there was an explosion heard at the smokehouse after initial reports of the fire came through, arthur said. due to a tragic fire, we will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. we'd like to thank the community for supporting us and local
