liz palka live in virginia beach. liz, how is the city preparing for the snow tonight? we are here at mount trashmore - right next to 264 eastbound. evening traffic moving along just fine as we can see. but after all this is over - virginia beach public works "frost patrol" will hit areas that freeze first in the city. three trucks will treat bridges, overpasses and ramps around 7 p-m. that will happen again around 1 this morning. in norfolk - public works doesn't have plans to pre-treat...especially if we end up getting rain. they have a skeleton crew that will monitor the conditions tonight. and make sure equipment is functioning. city of chesapeake said they are concerned about roads freezing tonight. they will have crews out searching for icy spots. and like virginia beach, they plan to treat bridges and drew lankford tells me they are taking it day by day. they will most likely know more tomorrow. live in vb, liz

live in vb, liz palka, 10 on your side. liz kilmer is live on the peninsula. liz, that part of our area is expected to get hit the hardest? not much activity going on here in newport news now but i'm told officials are carefully monitoring the storm and are ready to go. the weekend forecast has officials a bit more concerned. still, equipment, you see here, is ready now, supplies are stocked. city spokeswoman kim lee says they have over 700 tons of sand - you can see some here. and in that dome - there's over 700 tons of salt. the city is stocked also with 10-thousand gallons of brine. and as you can see, lots of trucks and plows. crews here aren't pre-treating for this storm tonight, but street maintenance workers will be here overnight and driving around and monitoring conditions, prepared to put down salt and sand as needed. 10 on your side also spoke with the newport transport people to the closest hospitals if the roads are bad. but we could get on the i'm told roads are being

breaking news in norfolk-- a tense standoff underway right now on poston lane in the city's norview neighborhood. here's what we know-- a man is holed up inside a house following a domestic situation. we just learned negotiators are talking to the man right now. john street-- which intersects with poston is avenue to norvella avenue is blocked. it's off the main street-- so traffic should not be affected. we will stay on top of this situation in newscasts. more breaking news in chesapeake. elbow road just east of centerville turnpike is closed because of a crash. power lines are down. so you might want to avoid that area, if you can. now to developing news in

the city treasurer was in court today to answer to corruption charges. anthony burfoot pleaded not guilty. 10 on your side's erin kelly was at the arraignment. erin what's next burfoot? the trial is set for may 3rd -- and there are as attorney says his client is hunkered down for the long haul and has no plans to leave his job as treasurer. c0003 - 5113 - (erin) good afternoon, mr. burfoot, what can you say to your supporters about these allegations? no comment from norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot -- as he headed into court wednesday to face federal corruption charges. to his attorney, andrew sacks. c003 - 5127 (erin) is anything about this indictment true? but he says he's not involved in a recall effort of burfoot - he says that's up to the citizens. live in norfolk, erin kelly, 10 on your side. we're learning more about a massive fire that burned down a meat plant in surry county. it is closed until further notice after a devastating fire. 10 on your side gave you this view from above edwards virginia smokehouse as firefighters battled the flames yesterday. most of the employees were out to lunch when it started. no one was hurt. investigators are still looking for a cause. the virginia beach fire department says a faulty space heater sparked a mobile home fire. it happened this morning on ritzcraft drive at the county view mobile home court. no one was hurt. investigators say the fire started in a back bedroom. they believe a portable space heater with damaged wiring caused the fire. the fire department says this fire is a good time to remind you to inspect heaters for cracked or broken plugs or loose connections. if there are any --- don't use it. never

portsmouth councilman danny meeks says he will seek re-election. meeks briefly shared his plans with about 100 residents at a community meeting last night in churchland. his announcement comes in the midst of rumors he wouldn't run. meeks told our joe fisher the city has more work to do to serve portsmouth taxpayers. councilman elizabeth

edwards, along with mayor kenny wright are also up for re-election in november. newport news police are still looking for a shooting suspect. police released more details from the victim. the shooting happened back on january 9th on 23rd street near roanoke avenue. the 23-year-old victim says at least five shots were fired as the car went by. he was hit in the back and treated at the hospital. this is a new picture of a possible suspect vehicle. if you know anything call police. coming up -- new information in the chesapeake massage parlor raid, im ten on your sides matt with who owned two of the shops and why she faces the most charges. and chief meteorologist don slater is working hard in the super doppler 10 weather center monitoring the incoming snowfall. his full forecast is

chesapeake -- we are learning more information about an ongoing homeland security investigation at several chesapeake massage parlors. this week we learned authorities arrested 14 women. you're looking at 13 of them here. these are mugshots from police today 10 on your side's matt gregory is taking a deeper look at new search warrants. matt what have you learned? tom, stephanie, court documents show that many of the women arrested are from out of the area. today, 4 of the women appeared in court to face their arraignments. including one who documents say owned two of the massage parlors. in just a few hours friday, police and homeland security investigations special agents rushed through 6 massage parlors in chesapeake. including the sunny spa off kempsville road and massage time off battlefield blvd. 10 on your side dug through background information to find that lihong cao (tsao) is the registered agent for the ownership of both. the 44 year old woman faces the most charges including 4 counts of allowing prohibited acts at a massage parlor. 2 counts of

place and 2 counts of using a peephole on private rooms. the court released her friday on 4 thousand dollar bond. cao is one of the women with local ties. but, 9 of the others have either out of state addresses, 4 from new york, one from north carolina, and 3 with no known addresses/ most of those have special requests by the court to provide a mandrin chinese translator. in most of the cases police charged the women with committing the acts either the day before or the day of the raid in chesapeake. at least two more of the women will be arraigned tomorrow. the chesapeake commonwealth's attorney's office tells me they are still setting the trial dates for the 14 women each charge is a misdemanor and carries a maximum jail sentence of a year and 2 thousand dollar fine. in the news room matt gregpory 10 on your side hampton police arrested four people after an abduction and robbery. 23-year-old amanda riojas -- 25-year-old jessenia blasini -- 27-year-old darrin fairley -- 22-year-old morgan smith are all in

say these 4 forced their way into a home earlier this month on hardy cash drive. they then allegedly assaulted the victim and took off with her belongings. williamsburg police are searching for a restaurant manager accused of stealing more than four-thousand dollars from the business. officers secured an embezzlement warrant for 47-year-old stacy lynn sayers of newport news. court documents say sayers was a manger at firehouse subs on richmond road in williamsburg and she took the money in late december. the general manager called police after noticing several deposits never made it to the bank. if you know sayers, or where she could be, call police. anchors ad-lib toss tonight: cloudy with light snow showers. accumulations of 1"

sad news from suffolk, we've just learned a man died from an accident that happened just after christmas. 56 year old charlie bell struck a jersey wall on route 58 nears the vdot weigh station early on the morning of december 27. today we learned he died in the hospital. we're still working to find out what charges a driver faces for crashing into a house. it happened last night on carters grove court in hampton. police tell us six people were inside the home when the truck crashed into the garage. officers have not said what led up to the crash or what charges the driver faces. two people were in the car when the accident happened. no one got hurt, but the driver, a 50-year- old woman went to the hospital as a precaution. coming up on wavy news 10 -

the fire marshal's office wants to know who made a bomb threat at a suffolk middle school. someone wrote it on the wall of the girl's bathroom at john f. kennedy middle school students stayed in class because the threat was deemed not creditable. and work is underway on another new elementary school in norfolk. you can see the children eager to pitch-in and help. this is the groundbreaking on the new ocean view elementary school building this morning. it's all part of a project by norfolk public schools to build five new schools in three years. c0018 isis bolden - 5th grade student 8;30;09 i've been through a lot when i was in this school. i thought it would be hard, but it was actually easy because i had a lot of great teachers to help me out. 8;42;01 construction is starting
