the word snow often goes hand in hand with empty shelves. shoppers in hampton scooped up ice melt and shovels today. the manager of ace hardware on town center way says they've solds hundreds of both. salt is also going quickly. cameron jasper c15 02:30:44 - :48 "as fast as we can bring it out of the back, it's going off the floor." some stores are already out of salt - like the ace hardware in newport news, on warwick boulevard. an employee says they'll have more friday. these pictures come from a kroger store near roanoke. shoppers have already wiped milk and bread from the shelves. they're expecting at least six inches of snow there over the next couple days. the snow has already started falling to our west we're looking at the roads in louisville, kentucky. about two inches of snow caused accidents and closed school for the day. snow also fell around washington, dc tonight.

for those heading home. this is a live look at the back ups still on 66 in fairfax. the roads are slick and state police tell us troopers responded to more than 150 accidents across the commonwealth. stay one step ahead of the storm with our free wavy weather app. get access to the current conditions and hour by hour forecasts. a bomb threat at jeb little creek fort story is developing news tonight. the base shut down one of the gates while investigators took a closer look. they closed gate 5, at the intersection of shore drive and independence blvd. in virginia beach. the base itself stayed open, but this tied up traffic for hours. 10 on your side's liz palka is outside gate 5 tonight. liz, police took one person into custody and the f-b-i is now involved. and tom - according to the navy, the fbi is now leading this

the suspect is detained questioned. everything at gate 5 has returned to normal. but this is where the suspicious package was found. no one has specifically the package was located at the gate...or if anything was in it. we can show you what the the investigation. we had to stay far back as major roads were shut down leading to little creek/fort story. according to police, the package was found at 5. a base spokesperson then told us a suspect was taken into custody. no information on that person has been released. little creek/fort story did treat this as a bomb threat. an explosive ordinance disposal team from naval station norfolk was called in to determine what was in the package. during the investigation, jeb little creek did send out alerts to people who work on base.

night on wavy news 10 at six. the case against's norfolk city treasurer, anthony burfoot, will head to a jury. he pleaded not guilty to federal corruption charges today and asked a judge to set a trial. between 2005 and 11, prosecutors say burfoot used his positions as councilman, vice mayor and chief deputy treasurer to enrich himself. they say he traded political favors for money and gifts. burfoot didn't want to answer our questions today -- c0003 - 5113 - (erin) good afternoon, mr. burfoot, what can you say to your supporters about these allegations? (no answer) (butt) andrew sacks - burfoot's attorney c0006 - 5535 it's been a very difficult time for him and his family. these allegations came out of left field, although some of these things had been swirling around, a lot of this he had never heard before. 5547 burfoot's attorney says his client has no plans to step down as treasurer. the trial is set for may. city officials could be leaving parts of portsmouth's history in the past.

people who pride themselves on preserving portsmouth's past, are afraid the city may take it away. it's over a new set of "guiding principals" city council has drawn up. 10 on your side's joe fisher spoke with people about what they call a threat to history -- ((c175 33:45)) "i can't fathom the thought of them taking our history away." portsmouth, virginia. a city with history dating back to the colonial era. a city intertwined with civil war america. ((c175 26:08)) "our first land grants here go back to 1620. a lot of important things have happened here over the centuries." it's no shock its residents care about keeping the history alive. ((c175 28:52)) "when you step outside of hampton roads, we're one of the greatest places in the world." the the proudest traditions of the past as a compass for our future." in recent weeks, however, new "vision principles" have been drawn up -- ommitting the "pride of past" priority.

when it comes to weather preps, the city of portsmouth tells us they are ready. it says all 10 trucks are up and running, with enough people to on staff to make sure the roads stay clear. a little girl who survived a fire in new york, has received more than two million cards. her injuries may be difficult to see, but we've been telling you about eight- year-old safyre terry for weeks. she was badly burned when someone set fire to her home, and her family died. this past year, she asked for christmas cards, and the world responded in force. now a team of volunteers
