breaking news -- a water main break has damaged part of a busy road in hampton. and it also disrupted business for some companies in the area. crews shut down both directions of west mercury boulevard between saville row and cunningham drive tonight. that's where we find 10 on your side's liz kilmer. liz, what's the status of the repairs? tom, nicole - still ongoing - but traffic is now moving in both directions. the water main break actually occurred on the median here and water shot towards the west bound lanes where workers were left with a mess to clean up. right now they're working on repairs. water, mud and gravel spewed onto a busy highway.

water main break - marked by this sink hole. sgt matt bond - hampton police division 15:22:37 "there was a good amount of water coming out initially, so much so that as you can see from the roadway a lot of mud and debris was pushed out of the median and into the roadway." hampton police say an officer was driving on mercury boulevard shortly before 6, when he noticed the water main break on cunningham drive and saville road. crews with newport news water works were called to the scene - quickly cleaning up the mess left behind. fortunately- bond 23:55 "we've received no calls of vehicular accidents or damage to vehicles" meantime - about a dozen businesses are without water. the nearby denny's and mcdonalds were forced to close early. a spokesman for newport news water works says water may not be restored until the early morning hours. a spokesman for newport news water works says this was caused by cold water temperatures. outside here, certainly frigid for these workers - expected

meantime, again, traffic is moving in both directions. work is contained to one westbound lane, near the median where this break breaking news from hawaii -- the marines have declared 12 missing service members dead. it's been exactly a week since two c-h- 53-es went down off oahu. local and military rescuers haven't found any signs of life in their days of searching. the helos went down during a routine training flight. police say they have found a missing boy -- we first reported on our sister station fox 43. officers sent us this picture of 12-year-old michael key. they say he took out the trash on leckie street around seven tonight, but didn't come back for hours. he is safely at home tonight. back to our coverage of what may be a major winter storm -- governor terry mcauliffe has already declared a state of emergency, giving local leaders access to state equipment. in

runs: 20 if you have plans to fly this weekend -- you may want to think again. airlines have already cancelled thousands of flights -- fearing what this storm might bring. american, for instance, has cancelled all its 654 flights in charlotte, friday. united will cancelled all flight from dulles international starting at four tomorrow. here's a look at the flight aware misery map -- so far tonight we've seen nearly 500 delayed flights and about two dozen cancellations. some are affecting norfolk international, so double contact your airline before heading out. dominion virginia power says it's ready for anything that comes our way. heavy snow and high winds can take a toll on power lines. the company says additional crews are being sent to the areas expected to be most affected. and they'll have employees working around the clock.

those who don't -- especially homeless children and teens. 10 on your side's liz palka spoke to them about the efforts. liz? there are an estimated 800 to one thousand homeless youth in hampton roads. and this weather can pose a threat to them. which is why seton youth shelters are open for kids who need a place to go. c1 17:58:19 - so we want to spread the word especially with this storm coming up. a warm, safe place. somewhere to sleep...do homework....play games...and talk to someone. shelter some might take for granted as the weather gets colder. c1 17:54:58 - when you're out on the streets without a jacket or without money or food and the temperature drops. it's a very threatening situation for youth. seton youth shelters has two locations in virginia beach for kids between age nine and seventeen. there's one shelter for girls and one for boys.

residents were painting their nails with one of their case managers. c1 17:59:59 - we not only provide shelter, we provide counseling individual group and family cousenling. it's really a home setting. executive director jennifer sieracki said they are trying to get the word out to youth and their parents who need the help. c1 17:56:40 - we need youth to know that we are here. if they are on the streets, if they are homeless, if they are runaway, please you can call our phone number sieracki said, even if a young person walks up to their door. after contacting a guardian - seton will help. because they say there are too many risks for homeless youth during the cold winter months. c1 17:57:46 - there are many threats to their safety. physical and emotional safety out there. and when the weather temperature drops, and it's cold outside, it just really magnifies all those issues. :57 seton serves the youth. but there are options for women, men and families.

ministries in norfolk. the lighthouse center in virginia beach. as well as several day and winter shelters throughout hampton roads. we'll have all this information, including phone numbers, on wavy.com. i'm liz palka, 10 on your side. a judge says all evidence found in a murder suspect's apartment is valid in court. she denied the motion to supress evidence in the case against jesse matthew junior. matthew faces a capital murder charge in the death of hannah graham. in 2014, the university of virginia student disappeared from charlottesville. investigators found her remains in albemarle county. matthew's attorney asked the judge to disallow a cellphone, paycheck, cigar tip, toothbrush and more. police had not listed those items in a search warrant, but the judge says the officers were within their bounds. matthew also faces a first degree murder charge in the 2009 death of virginia tech student morgan harrington. new tonight. a man-- wanted by police in our

and a woman-- face attempted capital murder charges near richmond. local reporters say it started when a hanover deputy stopped a on friday with marcus wade and krystal roberts inside. they say wade, who's from chesterfield, has warrants out in virginia beach. when the deputy went back to check them, they say he refused to get out. they say wade rolled up the window, trapping the deputy, and started dragging the deputy along. we're working to learn more about why police here had warrants out for him. still to come, a former sailor is going to prison for a year and a half. you'll hear why next. and-- the latest efforts to get the "lead out" of a poisoned water supply in michigan. hear what changes are coming to the regional e-p-a, because of the crisis in flint. and we're keeping an eye on what's happening outside. we expect a winter storm to hit our area tomorrow. don is updating the forecast now. see what you might get in your

a norfolk judge has sentenced a former sailor to 18 months in prison.

mcmanus pleaded guilty to smuggling heroin onto the u-s-s george h-w bush last year. the connecticut man and his wife smuggled the drug and syringes on board in february. he then sold some to another sailor who overdosed. in a news release, prosecutors say mcmanus is no longer a sailor. it did not say whether investigators charged his wife. a navy sailor will spend more than two years in prison for telling a malaysian defense contractor about classified ship schedules. today, a judge in san diego sentenced the first of nine defendents, to 27 months behind bars. petty officer 1st class daniel layug told the court he made a mistake, and greed led him to betray his country. once he gets out of federal prison -- the navy could still court martial him, if it decides to pursue a case. new tonight. we're following an f-16 crash in central arizona. the fighting falcon took off from luke air force base and crashed about two hours north near bagdad.

found the wrecked plane. a spokesperson say the taiwanese air force student mostly likely died. he says the pilot was practicing techniques for fighting other planes. the man accused of threatening to bomb a local navy base made his first court appearance today. police say 28-year-old kahlid mohamed abdalla dropped a package outside gate 5 at j-e-b little creek-fort story in virginia beach last night. investigators picked him up shortly afterwards. today in court, his parents told the judge he has a history of mental illness. the judge told them he will go through a mental evaluation to determine if he's competent to stand trial. he's in jail without bond. police have not yet said
