we are going to be ok coming up tomorrow morning through the area. temperatures around freezing for us. we warmed up in the big way, norfolk not quite yet. by 7:00 mostly rain to the south side becoming rain rapidly. that will continue northward. it becomes all rain pretty quickly by 9:00. we are looking ok. what about the rest of the weekend? we have a tricky situation. more about that in a few minutes. nick: do not go west young man. some of them have seen changes as the day wore on. we start with andy fox. nicole: you saw a couple of cars go into ditches.

don: it was a lot worse earlier and it has got warmer. we got a snow plow coming in. that is your county. vdot is here. this is actually williamsburg. the williamsburg trucks go up and down here. they have been clearing the roads all day long, just in time. drivers can get home from work. we begin our snow day wraparound in a ditch. >> snowfall isn't too bad. just some stuff and driveways. reporter: how is the driving for you? >> it is ok. i am more used to it. reporter: snow and icy. >> i recommend staying off the road if you don't have snow driving skills. reporter: it was like this all day.

member the car in the ditch? he got out and in trouble. we got out and started pushing to a safe landing. >> there you go. there you go. out of the way. >> that was very bad tires. reporter: he eventually said thanks and when on his way. 2.5 inches of snow here in city county is the latest. erin kelly: it started snowing around 10:30 this morning. it switched over to icy rain. i want to show you the best. it is not as fluffy as it was. jefferson avenue, you see the roads. they tell me they did have some plows out that went over bridges but they don't think they will

they are hoping the rain does the job. they have insulting and sanding. the screws -- the schools had a half day. i also checked in with police dispatch. they told us they did have quite a bit of calls. we haven't seen as many me understand that the calls have dropped off a bit but still be careful headed out there. jason marks: we have been watching things here in the city all day long. but me show you what is going on. you can see things are moving very nicely. we saw snow earlier today that has switched over to rain. roads are wet. driver say it is not a bad drive at all. >> it is not so bad.

reporter: what have you seen with drivers? >> people going to fast. everybody needs to go a little bit slower and maintain some space. quite slow down and take your time. you will get there. it that bad out here. reporter: it is not that bad. that advice from someone from new york. slow down, take your time. public works are here ready to roll. we have seen them but not salting and sanding. they have not needed to. they have had zero calls for slick spots at this point. they will watch this throughout the overnight. joe fisher: the snow has stopped and the rain has moved him. that is a bigger concern for the city. police our staff.

from matthews county as snow began. pictures keep coming in by the dozens. we post as many as we can. do your part and sent any pictures you can and send it to report it at wavy.com. nicole: snowfall is nothing compared to the western part of the state. this is the roanoke area covering interstate 81 before the storm got here. it has continued into the evening. now i live look at the roads. that part of the state could see 20 inches. tom: coverage continues in a few minutes. we have a crew on the road checking out the commute. we also have reporters preparing to bring you information from chesapeake and suffolk. nicole: and more news including a neighborhood evacuated after

nicole: check out the scene from charlotte, north carolina. roads were covered. schools were closed. hundreds of flights canceled. snow is expected into the night. and first, some relief in a chesapeake neighborhood after a fuel he. -- fuel leak. tom: residents were forced to around 6:00 a.m.. the tank was leaking jet fuel for a few hours before crews could get it cap. they were allowed to go back home around noon.

normally much more traffic here. on a friday evening, but not tonight. everyone heeded the warnings. chesapeake is prepared. they have 10,000 tons of sand and salt. they have pretreated the roads with the brine solution. rain is probably washing a lot of it off. they also say watch out for high tides and roads closing because of that. matt gregory: we see snow and rain, back to snow. an hour ago it was rain. you can see right here the best example. this is all eyes up and down the tree at the corner of rain.

blue through the emporia area. that is very big snow. they will likely have 10 inches of snow today. perhaps towards washington as well. then there is a break and more snow. the big thing for us is everything is going exactly as planned in terms of this rain and snow line lifting northward because of the fact that we have warmer air lifting northward. that is why i haven't been hugely concerned with this. you saw that little spot move through.

will do so during the overnight hours. here is 7:00. 4349. changing over by 9:00. we are all rain by 2:00 in the morning. in addition, very strong wind. these temperatures might be warm. it is going to be too warm. we start to cool back down a little bit and will continue during the afternoon hours. eventually we see more snowfall. it is not going to be a big amount. we do want to watch out for that. sunday during the day we clear on out.

nicole: the music city shut down because of the snow. as we go forward you should know a lot of weekend events have been postponed or canceled. tom: seven venues wedding house has opened up. he went over america concert is also moved to next weekend. and the my time women show at the hampton roads convention center has been moved to april. more cancellations can be found now. nicole: tonight, david wright vegas night. it is sold out. no more tickets available. it is the sixth year for the event. bruce rader is also there. more on that in the sportswrap.
