northeast. including here in hampton roads. at least 27 people are dead from the storms. state and federal offices stayed closed today in virginia, d-c and maryland. and more than 5-thousand flights were canceled or delayed today. well, today in hampton roads - the sun was shining and people are finally thawing out. here's a live look now from over downtown norfolk. today's warmup felt nice after the bitter cold temperatures we had over the weekend. but, the sunshine isn't planning on sticking around too long this week. we'll have a warm up, and then another cool down. chief meteorologist don doppler 10 weather center -- more re-freezing

even though its a lot warmer today - a lot of those side streets saw a clear - even though there are some traffic tie ups on interstate-664 near powhatan parkway in hampton. a lot of accidents across the commonwealth - including hampton roads as this storm pushed through. the most recent update sent out by state police say between friday through today: more than 15-hundred accidents and another 25-hundred disabled vehicles. we saw more than 570 crashes in our area. v-dot is still working to keep roads safe for drivers. a lot of crews from our area are in other parts of the state - to help with massive snow cleanup. v-dot's main concern is interstate and primary roads. officials remind people to drive with caution, as some roads may still be slick.

outside - be careful. about two dozen people have slipped and fallen on the ice. bon secours reports about a dozen at both their harbor view and depaul locations. they also treated one case of hypothermia. at riverside emergency department in newport news doctors treated 17 people for falls and 25 people involved in car accidents. sentara also reports a bump in injuries from falls and a few from vehicle accidents as well. many flights in and out of norfolk international airport are cancelled or delayed today-- because of the weather. when we stopped by the airport this afternoon, we didn't find a lot of people waiting. so hopefully that means they got word before heading out. the monitors showed flights to and from d-c were hardest hit. http: here's a live look at the delays and cancellations on the norfolk international airport's

live in chesapeake, liz kilmer, 10 on your side. protecting businesses that oppose same-sex marriage. that's what the virginia catholic conference and other groups are calling for. they want lawmakers to support legislation that protects businesses and individuals who oppose same-sex marriage, based on religious grounds. two republican state lawmakers have introduced bills. democratic governor terry mcauliffe, has already said he'll veto the bills. groups say the legislation prevents government entities from denying grants, contracts and licenses to people and companies that are against same-sex marriage. the a-c-l-u of virginia says the bill would allow people to discriminate against the l-g-b-t community. coming up on wavy news 10 at 5:30- on one of the coldest weekends of the year so far -- some military families were left without heat or hot water. ten on you

we continue to follow winter weather tonight at 5. here's a live look from times square in new york city. crews cleared the roads since the blizzard dumped a lot of snow. there's still a little bit of snow on the sidewalks. new information on the water crisis in michigan. the state's top attorney promises a forceful independent investigation in flint. that promise comes from the state's attorney general... assuring

that he'll investigate. the city's water supply is contaminated with lead. levels so high... lead is now in childrens' blood streams, and the national guard is distributing clean water. now the attorney general is announcing an investigation he vows will be fearless. a hampton man involved in a brutal attack overnight is doing better in the hospital. he had life-threatening injuries, but police say he is now stable. chris horne is live with more on the investigation-- and how this has affected man they identify as tj was shot multiple times and stabbed as well. very few want to go on camera, because they fear they could be the next victim. unidentified neighbor: c 4 44:15 i heard pop pop pop pop (pause) pop pop pop pop a total of eight shots, according to a neighbor. that's what people in the 500 block of smiley road heard just before midnight. the victim,

happened in the same block, less than two weeks ago. spoiler alert- it has nothing to do with drugs. williamsburg police are investigating a deadly shooting. investigators say the 23-year old accidentally shot himself friday at the astronomical pancake house on richmond road. he died on the way to the hospital. hampton police are looking for a man who robbed a good samaritan. detectives say the victim stopped at beall drive and tyndall circle to help someone he thought was having car trouble. that's when investigators say the suspect pulled out a gun, assaulted the victim, stole money from him and then took off on a motorcycle. norfolk police need your help finding this man. detectives say he broke into chen's kitchen on tidewater drive just before two a-m friday. surveillance video shows the man breaking into the store-- by smashing out a glass window. he stole money before

any information, call the crime line. we continue our winter weather coverage tonight at 5. cleanup in d-c could go on for days, but amtrak service there is back up and running again-- on a limited schedule. that's after 2 feet of be able to travel between d-c and boston until further notice. some people not traveling in between d-c and boston continue to receive word that their train will not be coming. kimberly woods/amtrak spokeswoman :15 "it was just a matter of having our engineering, mechanical and operation crews working around the clock to make sure we were able to keep trains operating throughout the storm." passengers need to check the status of their traints before going to the station. with clean-up still underway, d-c's mayor gave an update on the situation in a news conference this morning. metro started very limited service-- and the plows started making their way to the residential streets. federal, state and local governments in that area remained shut down today-- as

baltimore's mayor asks people to stay off the roads. crews are working round the clock- clocking 12-hour shifts- to plow the snow from roadways across the city. plows are helping the city from the entire region - but with 1-thousand miles of roads, it'll be a while for everything to be cleaned up. meantime, a church on the other side of maryland couldn't withstand the weight of the snow. the roof partially collapsed at the building in burtonsville. no one was hurt-- but you can see the damage left behind. the national weather service says-- parts of montgomery county saw anywhere from 18 to 38 inches of snow over the weekend.
