told you about this as breaking news this morning. chesapeake police say they are looking for a person of interest. this all began around 2:30 this morning when a driver didn't stop for a chesapeake police officer. the officer chased the driver on to i-264 into norfolk. later, police say the driver hit the side of a townhouse at stoney point & john hancock lane, just off newtown road. that driver took off. and, both norfolk and chesapeake police are looking for the suspect. only 10 on your side was there as crews towed the car away. things left inside the car may give investigators a clue to the person they are looking for. police haven't told us exactly who they are looking for yet, but if you have any infromation about this, call crime line. a lot more to get to this midday -- but now we want to get a check of the weather. things have defineitely improved around here since the weekend. here's a live look at tower cam 10 at the skies over downtown norfolk

brings scattered showers. may only see a stray weather friday into the weekend. while it may be warming up, our nation's capital is still dealing with the effects of this weekend's winter storm. federal offices in washington are closed again today. schools there are also shut down. the storm dumped almost two feet of snow across that region over the weekend. the blizzard was one of the top five snowstorms on record for the city. new at midday -- virginia beach police arrested a man they say exposed himself to children in the neighborhood. this is 69-year-old ralph gutshall. police arrested him thursday, shortly after the alleged incident was reported to dispatch. there are no other reported victims right now. the portsmouth city council meets tonight. this comes after recent drama over a city council

members. many portsmouth residents don't agree with it, and they say council is suffering from a lack of transparency. tonight will be the first regularly- scheduled dollar fine for breaking that new city rule, which prohibits members from speaking about information discussed in closed door meetings. last week, in a community meeting with council members, residents spoke up about openness among elected officials. mayor kenny wright and a few councilmembers didn't seem to offer any solutions, but their collective message was for people to watch the public access channel for meetings and go to the council's website. we know this is an important issue for you so here's how you can speak out about things happening in your government. here are three ways you can sign up to speak at tonight's meeting. you can call the number on your screen, email city council, or sign up in person. according to city rules, you are only

to three minutes. tonight's city council meeting starts at 7:00 at city hall. a follow-up to a hazmat situation in chesapeake last week. the fire department tells us almost 75- thousand gallons of jet fuel leaked at the kinder morgan south terminal last friday morning. nobody was hurt, but 70 homes in the area had to be evacuated as a precaution. the virginia beach s-p-c-a took in some birds that were contaminated by the spill. the fire department says it will not fine kinder morgan for the spill. kinder morgan is responsible for the clean-up cost. nobody was hurt when an attic caught on fire in norfolk this morning. firefighters say an electrical issue started the fire in a home on westminster avenue. they say insulation caught fire, and the home didn't have working smoke detectors. luckily, a man inside the home was able to get out before firefighters arrived a little after 3:30 this morning. firefighters say they stopped the fire before it could damage any of the home below the attic.

shut off electricity while firefighters investigated. no one was hurt. about 30 minutes before that fire in norfolk, there was one at a home in virginia beach. firefighters are trying to figure out what caused the fire on glenfield court near hilltop. firefighters say two residents suffered smoke inhalation, but refused treatment. firefighters tweeted these pictures of the fire. they believe it started on the second floor of the home. firefighters in chesapeake put out a fire that was hard to get to. crews told us they got the call just after midnight of a fire on woodland drive. viewers could see it from northbound 664 near dock landing road. initally firefighters thought it was easier to get to the vacant building fire from the interstate, which closed the off ramp overnight. our photographer lavoy harrell had to walk through the mud to shoot this video. thankfully no one got hurt. the of the fire is

a 74 year old woman is terrified after a man hurt her, attempted to rob her, and then stole her car. this man, 28 year old brett cote is now behind bars facing several charges. the attempted robbery happened in elizabeth city, sunday afternoon. the victim spoke with 10 on your side. we are not revealing her name. she told us she stopped at a convenience store for a newspaper. the suspect then opened her car door saying he was stranded and needed to get to an atm. he then demanded she get money out. the victim said it looked as if he had a gun. here's what she said happened next. c2 17:15:18 - i noticed his hands in his pockets. and i thought, he said, now maam, i'm not going to hurt you.and that's when i thought something. and then when he started to reach for my purse. and then i got my purse and then i reached for the keys and that's when he hurt me. :35 the victim ended up with a bruised hand. she

updates as we get them. a scare this morning at winston-salem state university. the campus is all clear now after a police issued a lockdown for the campus. someone reportedly showed a gun during a fight. although nobody fired any shots, officials shut down the school as a precautoion while police investigated. students had to stay in their room or away from campus during the lockdown. however, everything is now back to normal for classes today. we told you about a seven-point-one magnitude earthquake hitting alaska, sunday morning. it caused a huge mess and destroyed homes. we can now show you some video of the quake as it happened. you can see the shelves in this hardware store in anchorage start shaking, and then fall over. store employees say they are grateful nobody was in the store at the time. the store did open for business monday, but there is still a lot to clean-up. some people closer to the quake weren't so lucky. the earthquake caused a gas line to

but i've never experienced it or seen it in." smith says: "i was able to get a hold of the defendant and use the least amount of force possible to go ahead and detain him to get him under control." it is likely the defendent will spend extra time in prison for the attack. the citadel issues punishment to 14 students who were seen wearing clothing similar to ku klux klan attire. the college says the punishments range from minor on-campus sanctions to two-semester dismissals. an investigation revealed several freshamn cadets were ordered by upperclassmen to sing chirsmas carols while they were dressed in all-white outfits with eye-holes in their hoods. photos of the cadets ended up on social media. although the cadets say they were supposed to be ghjosts, many saw something else. and in the wake of the incident, the national action network is calling on the school to remove the confederate flag out the same way you took it off the dome in front of the building and in front

the newport news police department says it recieved a generous donation to buy bullet proof vests for it's police k-9's this comes after a suspect shot and killed norfolk's police k-9, krijger, earlier this month. his death prompted many people to donate to spike's k-9 fund. even anderson cooper gave the money he would have made speaking tonight at chrysler hall, to the fund. as a result, the newport news police department will recieve six vests for it's four legged officers, including this guy named havoc. it means all of the patrol dogs will now be protected while they work. the democratic presidential candidates made their final arguments to the people of iowa ahead of the caucus next week. in a town hall at drake university, the candidates fielded questions from voters about their policies and views. hillary clinton responded to a question about all the attacks leveled against her. :20 - :35 hillary clinton/democratic presidential candidate "look, i've been around a long time . people have thrown all kinds of things with me.

six teenagers are facing major backlash for a picture on social media. the girls wore shirts spelling out the "n" word, with two of the letters replaced by an asterisk on friday. this happened at a school spirit event at their high school. the girls say the picture was meant to be a joke with one of the girl's boyfriends. the photo leaked online and is now viral. now the girls are facing harsh criticism from their peers, death threats online, and could even be expelled. at a protest outside the school yesterday, one of the girls publicly apologized for what happened. steigerwald says: "i have come here to say that i know people have been offended by what i did; i am incredibly sorry. i have love for everyone in my heart. i am not a racist, and i am asking everyone for forgiveness to me." mos says: "this isn't about those six girls. it's that they thought it was funny and the fact that they did this just mean that they had exactly no clue how serious it was. like segregation ended

they are focusing on the upcoming special u-s-asean summit in calfornia. kerry is in cambodia as part of a regional tour. he also made a stop in laos yesterday to discuss the summit. kerry will then travel to china to talk about its response to north korea's nuclear efforts. eight museum employees in cairo are going to court for ruining a famous relic the employees face charges for damaging the burial mask of king tut, and then trying to cover it up. the charges aren't criminal, so they aren't facing any jail time, but they could lose their jobs and face large fines. the beard of the golden mask broke off in august 20-14, but it wasn't until last january pictures surfaced online showing a line of glue around the chin. german experts helped restore the mask back to normal, and it is now back on display at the museum. four massive sperm whales found dead on the beaches of eastern england over the weekend. the coast guard says a pod of up to six whales

coastline friday. wardens tried to get one of the whales back into the water, but it died before they could. the whales are about 45 feet long and weigh about 30 tons. scientists will examine the bodies to find out how they died. a big change could be coming to the rules regarding transgender athletes in the olympics. a proposed rule change by the i-o-c says transgender athletes can compete, with out having gender reassignment surgery. trangender athletes have been allowed in the olympics since 2004, but only after surgery and two years of hormone therapy. the rule change sets a hormone based criteria. anatomically male athletes must prove their testosterone levels have been below a certain level for a year to compete in female divisions. i-o-c medical chiefs also proposed a rule that would allow female-to-male transgender athletes to compete in the male category without resitriction.

c-n-n's coverage on wavy dot com. a young lady in columbus may be getting a new furry friend thanks to a special request she made to a hockey player. this young lady held up a sign hoping number 13 scores so her dad gets her a dog. number 13 is columbus blue jackets forward cam atkinson. and he delivered for this young lady -- three times. atkinson got his third career hat trick to help the blue jackets beat the montreal candiens five to two, and hopefully get that girl a dog. here's something adorable for you. a sloth in ecuador had to be rescued last week after it got stuck in the middle of a highway. the ecuador transit commission shared these now viral photos on facebook of the sloth that appearantly got scared trying to cross the highway. you can see the poor thing clinging to a guard rail support. officials were able to get it to let go, and the sloth was examined by the vet
