43 year old tracy lawrence bonded out of jail today. she faced a judge this morning on assault and battery and disorderly conduct charges. lawrence is accused of hitting the lakeview elementary school assistant principal so hard, she briefly lost consciousness. 10 on your side's brandi cummings is live in story. court documents reveal new details about just what happened at lakeview yesterday. officer's report, lakeview assistant principal sylvia hodges-melvin was explaining to tracy lawrence that her son had been disruptive in school. the report says hodges-melvin was showing lawrence video when lawrence is accused of yelling quote - "how would you feel if i mushed your head?" the officer's report goes on to say lawrence then slapped hodges- melvin on the left side of her face and ear. hodges-melvin fell back and was briefly knocked out. police say lawrence took off and was later arrested at her home. portsmouth school

were injured. lawrence has been given a no tresspassing notice from the school. she is expected to be back in court next month. . live in portsmouth brandi cummings 10 on your side. new since midday an assistant principal in norfolk is behind bars accused of sex crimes involving a child. 64-year-old gary jordan is the assistant principal at madison alternative center. officers arrested him monday afternoon. police say he made inappropriate comments to the young victim. a former teacher in hampton is locked up -- accused of having an innapropriate relationship with a student. 25-year-old samantha quin turned herself in to police this morning after officers filed two felony warrants for her arrest. 10 on your side's joe fisher is live in the newsroom with a story you'll see only on 10. anita -- this all comes after a two month investigation by hampton police. samantha quinn is accused of taking indecent liberties with a 16-year-old student last spring. but it wasn't until november -- just two

student came foward to another faculty member and told them about the alleged misconduct. soon after that admission by the victim in november --- police started their investigation. court papers show quinn was put on leave from her job. she was a special education teacher at hampton high school since august 20-14. less than a month after being put on leave --- a spokeswoman with hampton public schools says quinn resigned from her position. last week, officers secured the warrants her arrest. and just this morning -- quinn surrendered. ((c37 49:43)) "as parents, we take them to the school that they are going to be taught with decent morals. for something like this to happen. it is obviously illegal." quin is facing two felony charges of taking indecent liberties with the 16- year-old boy. coming up on wavy news 10 at five --- i'll tell what contact quinn had with the juvenile victim after she knew police were looking into her. that

city pastor is accused of stealing from his church. according to court documents --- timothy stallings stole the church offerings from two different services in november at calvary baptist church in camden. police arrested him earlier this month. stallings is charged with larceny. an o-d-u student is in the hospital after police say someone shot and robbed him in norfolk. the victim says he was driving along lindenwood avenue around 6-45 last night when two men approached his car and they argued. the suspects stole money and shot him before they ran off. the 22-year-old victim's injuries aren't considered life-threatening. a virginia beach elementary school went on lockdown because of a swat situation nearby. a 10 on your side viewer sent us these pictures from near ewing place. salem elementary went on a lockdown this morning as a precaution because of the police activity. police say officers were attempting to serve warrants. one suspect came out and was arrested on outstanding warrants. police called the swat team when the second suspect wouldn't

still on the scene. norfolk police are searching for three suspects they say robbed a chanello's delivery driver and stole his car. it happened around 8:15 last night near mission and henry streets. the 20-year-old victim says he was delivering a pizza when three suspects approached him, pulled out a gun, demanded money and his car keys. they drove away in his car. the victim wasn't hurt. officers found the car abandoned this morning. norfolk police are investigating another robbery. the victim says he was walking near 41st street and bowdens ferry road around midnight --- when two men approached him, pulled out a gun and robbed him. the victim wasn't hurt. virginia beach police are investigating a parking lot robbery that led to a shooting. it happened last night on bonney road. detectives say a man was meeting someone to buy a cell phone when three suspects robbed and asaulted him. someone fired a gun as the suspects ran. no one was seriously hurt. virginia beach police say they are still trying to track down this robbery suspect. we reported the crime when it happened back in

road. detectives have released this new video of the robbery. the man went into the store, showed the clerk what police describe as an archery type weapon and demanded cash. he got the cash and then ran away. no one was hurt. it appears hundreds of local workers are losing their jobs. according to elevate virginia dot org -- sprint is laying off nearly 400 employees in hampton. the website says notice was given this effect in march. the blacksburg police a missing 13-year-old girl. this is nichole lovell. police say she's in danger because she doesn't have the daily medication she needs after having a liver transplant. nichole has a tracheotomy scar. she could be carrying a blue and yellow "minions" blanket. joe fisher already told you about a hampton teacher arrested. another local teacher is accused of a sex crime. 10 on your side's lex gray spent the day working to learn more about the crime he's accused of. we're on your side with a

the c-d-c has expanded its travel alert to pregnant women regarding trips to the caribbean and latin america. the u-s virgin islands and the dominican republic are now on the list of more than twenty destinations with zika virus disease outbreaks. the c-d-c is also asking

whose mothers visited zika- infected areas while pregnant. the cdc reported one case of the mosquito borne virus in virginia. local health experts took notice. but what can they do for prevention? 10 on your side's matt gregory went to find out. scary news in the virginia medical community this week. the zika virus showing up in two states. one here. a local medical expert tells me to stop the disease you have to stop mosquitos. today i talked to dr. nancy khardori (car door-ee). she is an infectious disease specialist at the eastern virginia medical school. the zika virus, she explains has been around for years. but a recent link between the disease and birth defects has doctors concerned. what you need to know is this: dr. khardori says the disease is carried by mosquitos. not just any mosquito can carry it. it has to be what is called an aedes (aid-ees) mosquito. the person wasn't bit here. but, if an aedes mosquito were to bite that person or anyone infected with the disease, that could have larger consequences

infectious disease are gonna double and triple and quarduple and go on and on." zika is similar to west nile or yellow fever, they all require transmission, by the aedes mosquito. coming up in one hour, what can you do at home to prevent an infection, and what could happen if a pregnant woman is infected. i'll explain at 5 oclock on wavy news matt gregory 10 on your side two airlines are offering refunds to passengers worried about the zika virus outbreak. united airlines says customers booked to fly to areas affected by the virus can reschedule or get refunds. american airlines says it will give refunds to pregnant women who were planning to travel to parts of central america. addiction and overdoses. it's something president barack obama addressed in his state of the union. now new hampshire's senators are asking the judiciary committee for money for prevention and treatment to stop a deadly drug epidemic.

we're on your side with a warning from wendy's. the fast food chain says it's investigating reports of "unusual activity" on credit and debit cards used at some of its restaurants. wendy's says it has launched an investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts. the ohio-based company says its too soon determine the scope of any potential data breach. customers should watch for unauthorized charges on their cards. another driver has died an exploding takata air inflator. it's unclear whether the inflator is the cause of death. the driver of a 2007 honda civic died last to u-s government documents --- the inflator exploded in the crash, spraying metal fragments. this could be the 11th victim worldwide of takata air bags. the 2007 civic's inflators haven't been recalled yet in the u.s. federal agents say they stopped a potentially

our lex gray spent the day in both counties, finding out more about the charges against walker. lex? anita, i spoke with school officials, the sheriff's office, walker's neighbors, and went through court documents today. walker taught science and technology classes at perquiman's county middle school. he's in jail now....and the perquimans county superintendent and the sheriff want parents to know their children are safe. walker was arrested after deputies got a call about a sexual assault that happened here, at his house. according to the arrest warrant -- the victim told deputies he agreed to do landscaping work at walker's house. but instead -- walker allegedly got the victim into his house, undressed him, and forced him into sexual acts. perquimans middle school sent out an alert to parents yesterday, telling them a teacher had been arrested. pasquotank county sheriff randy cartwright says his deputies will be going through evidence taken from walker's house, and talking to former employers to find out if he has a history. but right now -- he has this message for parents. randy

colker's husband says he fought with the attacker and managed to get away . detectives say colker was raped before she was murdered. she died from an extensive skull fracture and suffication. police say the suspect was released from prison in december after serving a sentence for a sex crime involving a child. colker lived in atlanta and worked at a children's hospital. 10 on your side reported last night she graduated from tabb high school in yorktown in 1994. the so-called "affluenza teen" should return to the u-s very soon. ethan couch's attorney says the 18- year-old is dropping the appeal . mexico has not announced a date for his deportation. couch and his mother were arrested in mexico last month after a two-week manhunt. they ran after a video surfaced that appeared to show him around alcohol. that violates couch's probation. he's serving a ten year probation sentence for killing four people in a drunk driving crash. during his trial --- attorneys argued the teen was too rich and spoiled to understand the consequences of his

a transgender gloucester high school student took his fight to use the boys bathroom to the u-s court of appeals in richmond. today-- attorneys with the aclu argued on behalf of 16-year-old gavin grimm.

was born female but identifies male is being denied his rights. only 10 on your side's jason marks was also in richmond with what happened today in court-- jason the aclu is asking for an appeals court to allow gavin to use the boys room until his case his case against the gloucester county school board goes to school. we've been following his story for more than a year. he was born a female but identifies as a male. he is asking to use the boys bathroom at school, but the school board has a policy which requires students to use bathrooms based on their biology, not gender. it came after received complaints from parents. they offered grimm a private bathroom but he says it made him fell uncomfortable at school. the aclu argued today in court that his rights are being denied by the school board. 09=12:23 "in a sense i was sort of thrust into terrified and i wanted to run away from it all but then i realized i have a

platfrom can help people and i'm just not the type of person that will roll over and let myself be discriminated against" gavin says this has really made him dislike going to school. the judges will consider his request and won't make a ruling for a couple months. jason marks 10 on your side an arizona rancher is dead and 8 members of an armed group occupying a national wildlife refuge in oregon are in custody after a shootout between police and protesters. officers arrested militant leader ammon bundy, his brother and three others during a traffic stop that prompted gunfire. the group was driving to a community meeting 70 miles from the malheur national wildlife refuge. protesters led by the bundy brothers have occupied the land since the beginning of the year. three others in the group were arrested separately. we'll have more on the arrests and the standoffs --- coming up at 5:30. a school bus driver says

school principal push several students out of the way of her bus. the principal was killed when the bus hit her. two 10-year-old children were also hit when the bus suddenly jumped a curb outside the indiana afternoon. the kids' injuries aren't life threatening. the cause of the crash is under investigation. a 78-year-old driver could lose his license after driving the wrong florida highway. department of transportation cameras show the white pickup truck going eight direction. the driver is blamed in two crashes as other drivers tried to avoid the pickup. no one was hurt. a bizarre deadly crash in massachusetts. a man died when a tire fell off a pickup truck, went over a barrier and hit his car. the tire also hit another car. police are investigating. seattle police are searching for two possible suspects in a deadly shooting at a homeless camp. the gunfire killed two people . three others are injured. detectives believe the gunman or gunmen targeted

and a homeowner is missing after a fire and explosion at this house in ohio. the house was engulfed in flames after last night's blast. a confederate controversy in texas. a special advisory committee has approved changing the name of a school named after a confederate general. the fight to change the name of robert e. lee elementary started after the charleston church shooting. the school board still has to consider the name change. there are 19 schools in texas named after robert e. lee. some are going through the same process. the water rushing from niagara falls could slow to a trickle. at least for a short time. the parks department wants to temporarily reroute water from the american side of the falls so crews can replace two 115- year-old stone bridges. that could take as long as nine months. the so called "dewatering" wouldn't happen for at least another two years. the falls were dried in 1969 so the u.s. army corps of engineers could study how the falls were eroding. check out this tornado

string of events that included a parent yelling and punching an assistant principal. police say the unconscious. the parent faced a judge today and is now out of jail on bond. 10 on your side's brandi cummings is live now to explain what happened in court. tom, nicole- . the bond hearing this morning inside a portsmouth courtroom only took a few minutes. in court we learned new details about the mother accused of assault. less than 24 hours after being accused of punching a school administrator, 43 year old tracy lawrence faced a judge. as outlined in documents and in court lawrence explained with her husband at her side - that she's a mother of three children ages 16, 12 and 10. she's lived in portsmouth her entire life and is unemployed, but collects disability. the details were enough for a judge to allow her out of jail. judge morton whitlow, portsmouth general district court - clip 25 2:25:07 im going to authorize a bond of 10,000 with surety. 2:25:10 but, the judge gave some conditions of the bond.
