an assistant principal in norfolk is behind bars accused of sex crimes involving a child. 64-year-old gary jordan is the assistant principal at madison alternative center. officers arrested him monday afternoon. police say he made inappropriate comments to the young victim. a former teacher in hampton is also facing serious troubles tonight. this is a story you'll see only on 10. the woman is accused of sex crimes with a student. samantha quinn turned herself in today after a two-month investigation. 10 on your side's joe fisher is following the latest information. joe? tom, nicole -- samantha quinn is alleged to have engaged in sex acts with a 16-year-old student. police say this happened two times inside hampton high hours. a former teacher -- now an accused criminal. -- after alleged intimate encounters with a hampton high school student. ((c37 46:37)) "as of today, she turned herself in here at police headquarters, where she served with two warrants

for a seperate county of indecent liberties." officers say the incidents happened after the final bell on two occassions last spring. in november, police say the victim came forward to another faculty member. court papers show it was consensual -- but not legal. ((c37 49:43)) "we put our trust and faith in the mentors and teachers to acutally teach and guide these students, who are in fact juveniles. court documents show quinn was put on leave from her job at hampton high as police investigated. the school district tells 10 on your side by the end of the month, quinn resigned from her position as a special education teacher. seargent matt bond says detectives worked for two months to validate facts before securing the warrants for her arrest. ((c37 48:13)) "do you all believe that she has had innapropraite relationship with other students? is that being investigated?" "that has not been confirmed. there have been no other counts or no other incidents or other victims come forward. and i know that

a swat situation-- that put a virginia beach school on lockdown today - is over. we first brought you this story as breaking news at midday. police say officers were attempting to serve warrants near ewing place. police arrested 47 year old kevin hall on outstanding warrants. we're told a second person - also wanted - surrendered as well. we're working to learn more about them salem elementary went on a lockdown as a precaution, because of the police activity. an odu student is in the hospital after someone shot and robbed him in norfolk. the victim was driving along lindenwood avenue around 6-45 last night

says two men approached his car. the suspects stole money and shot him before they ran off. the victim is expected to recover. norfolk police are searching for three suspects- they say- robbed a chanello's delivery driver, and stole his car. it happened around 8:15 last night, near mission and henry streets. the 20-year-old victim says he was delivering a pizza when three suspects approached him, pulled out a gun-- and demanded money and his car keys. they drove away in his car. the victim was not hurt. officers found the car abandoned this morning. a pastor from elizabeth city is accused of stealing from his church. court documents say timothy stallings took church offerings from two different services in november at calvary baptist church in camden. police arrested him earlier this month. stallings is charged with larceny. today a travel agent, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from high school students -- pleaded not guilty. augustine acheampong is charged with felony embezzlement. he allegedly collected money from students at various high schools

canceled the trip just days before they were scheduled to depart. his trial is set for may. four defendants in a 2013 murder-for-hire case out of james city county have learned their fate. all four pled guilty. john mackay, nicole and nace houchin all received life sentences. however mackay will only serve about 28 years, nicole houchin about 24 years, and nace houchin about 40 years because the rest of the time is suspended. gregory crawford will serve 17 years and 40 years probation. the four are accused of killing mackay's wife, dana in 2013. it was a shoplifting suspect who apparently put the bite on a york- poquoson deputy. 33-year-old francisco romo- maurico is charges with felony shoplifting and felony assault on police officer. the deputy confronted romo- maurico when he tried to flee tabb walmart after allegedly shoplifting. but romo-maurico ran. during the physical altercation, romo-

thumb. a suspect in a robbery from october is still on the loose. now virginia beach police are asking for your help. detectives have released this new video from the 7-eleven on newtown road. the man went into the store, showed the clerk what police describe as an archery type weapon and demanded cash. he got the cash and then ran away. no one was hurt. norfolk police are investigating a robbery near 41st street and bowdens ferry road last night. the victim says two men approached him while he was walking in the area. police tell us-- the suspects demanded personal property from the victim, at gun point. no one was hurt. both old dominion university and norfolk police were on scene, but the city is handling the investigation. someone found a whale on the sands of kure beach, north carolina. kure beach is south of wilmington. the 15-hundred-pound whale was a 1- to 2-year-old baby humpback. the whale was very thin, covered in lice and appeared to have been sick for some time. s/ william mcclellan/ nc stranding coordinator :16

norfolk southern's fourth quarter profits took a dive, after the railroad company delivered six-percent less freight. profits are down almost 30 percent. now jobs are on the chopping block. the norfolk-based fortune 500 company announced plans to reduce its workforce by two thousand or 4 percent. this comes as it fends off a takeover bid from canadian pacific. this year's cuts adds up to 12-hundred people. the rest will be cut by 20-20. the company blames 31-million-dollar restructuring costs in part of the sluggish fourth-quarter. jobs could also be on the chopping block at sprint in hampton. according to elevate virginia dot org -- sprint is laying off nearly 400 employees. the website says notice was given this week and layoffs take effect in march. coming up on wavy news 10 - looking ahead to tomorrow -- a somber day of reflection 30 years since a space shuttle went down. how those lives lost are being

virginia now has one confirmed case of a deadly disease, spread by mosquitos. this week, the c-d-c reported that case of the zika virus in the commonwealth. what does that mean here in hampton roads? 10 on your side's matt gregory spoke with an infectious disease expert to find out for you. according to that expert the zika virus, like west nile and yellow fever, is transmitted by mosquito. doctors say the effects on adults are mild. however, in pregnancies, the disease can be crippling and at times fatal. inside the bon secours depaul medical center, dr. nancy khardori focuses on infectious diseases. but none more pressing on this day than the zika virus. dr. nancy khardori / infectious disease specialist c0004 14:26:40 "ever since it got introduced into brazil

another connection found between tanning beds and skin cancer. researchers from the university of minnesota analyzed data from a small

patients. they found that nearly all of the women diagnosed with the disease before age 40 reported indoor tanning before age 25. experts say indoor tanning significantly increases the risk of developing the potentially fatal skin cancer. parts of the east coast are still digging out, after snow dumped across the region. but a blizzard wasn't enough to keep a baby away-- once he decided it was time to meet his mother. brantley (mack-ah-rav-itz) mackaravitz entered the world sunday, on a snowy highway north of philadelphia. his mother -- mariah bryant was only 15 minutes from the hospital. but apparently that was 15 minutes too long for brantley, who had already decided he was coming a month early. so mariah delivered her baby boy herself in her car. developing news in the arrest of a local middle school sience teacher. pasquotank county sheriff's deputies arrested darrell walker monday night. he's charged with a sex crime. today parent's contacted 10 on your side - saying they want more answers from the school. lex gray spent the day in north carolina - asking their questions. lex? anita and deanna -- as of this morning, parents knew very little about what was going on with this middle school teacher. that's why today, i talked to the superintendent, sheriff, the teacher's neighbors, and went through court documents to find out more. today at perquimans students didn't see darrell walker in the front of the classroom. that's because deputies arrested him here, at his elizabeth superintendent matthew cheeseman tells me deputies contacted him the next morning -- and he parents tuesday afternoon about the arrest. court documents reveal much more. the victim called 9-1-1 about a sexual assault monday night. he tells deputies he
