--- we've worked to learn more about what happened, the suspected gunman and all the victims. we have a team of reporters working on this tragic story today. we begin our coverage with 10 on your side's andy fox with a time line of events. at the heart of the tragedy is 26 year old cameron dooley who killed himself after killing five family members at 3:35 wednesday afternoon chesapeake police respond to the dooley home on wildwood road friends were concerned something was wrong when the show up they find cameron's brother 22 year old landon dead on the floor. 13:36 - show us your ok. show us what room you are in. turn the lights on and off, or play with the blinds. or come out the front door with your hands up. three and a half hours later a massive police operation outside this home on george

now to more about the family killed. 10 on your side's jason marks spent the day learning more about the victims. this has just been shocking for this tight nit community. in just a couple hours here at the temple baptist church they will gather to remember the lives lost. here's what we know about the victims.. this 17 year old brooke dooley. she is a senior at deep creek high school where she was cheerleader. her brother 22-year-old landon was also killed.

mother lori and father todd dooley who was a former officer. brooke's grandmother doris according to facebook doris worked at temple baptist church here in chesapeake. her husband who died a couple years ago was pastor of the that church. this loss is just community ben pilkington/victim's friend "it hits deep creek hard but knowing deep creek we are going to get through this we just have to be able to get away from the sad parts and look at the memories of brooke and her family and remember the good things about her and come together as a community and honor her and her family" in just a short time that healing process will begin. at 7 the community is set to gather for a vigil. live in chesapeake jason marks 10 on

the news spread quickly among members of law enforcement. friends say todd dooley -- the father -- retired from the chesapeake police department only two months ago. 10 on your side's erin kelly talked to those who knew him as an officer. city councilman robert ike -- a retired chesapeake police officer himself -- says he had talked to dooley a month ago -- and he seemed to be enjoying 20 years with that department. though they did not work together, ike says he knew dooley socially from police events and that dooley was well- respected among his peers, known as a rock solid back-up when you needed one. ike says dooley was a dedicated family man -- and that the news comes as a shock to everyone. on social media -- friends and colleagues have shared photos of the chesapeake police badge today, shrouded in black. c0006 - councilman robert ike - retired chesapeake

who died this afternoon in the fire. not only did they know her - they could hear her yelling for help. we know this fire started around noon today here in the 1300 block of hoover avenue. once crews arrived - they put out the large fire and found a body inside. police and fire officials have not yet identified the victim. but again, neighbors telling us it was their female neighbor. here is more from erica smith, across the street. c33 18:38:43 - i ran over there they were already trying to kick her door down. she was in boots on so i could help come kick the door down...but by the time i came back it was so much fire and so much smoke...i couldn't get in there. :58 police are now investigating this fire. they have not yet said if it is suspicious or an accident. liz

back now with an elementary school in williamsburg --- rallying around a student diagnosed with leukemia. last week, the school set a fundraising goal of 500-dollars to help the family with medical bills. and today, the school announced they surpassed

times over. 10 on your side's joe fisher joins us now with more on that five-year-old fight with cancer. joe. stephanie -- gracie perry-toutaint fell on the monkey bars last month. the fall led to a high fever --- and the injury never got better -- actually it got health continues to improve -- she's looking at a hospital stay of at least six more months. that's why sandi muraski -- gracie's kindergarten teacher at magruder elementary in williamsburg -- decided to help the family out. well, one day later -- and the student's parents and the community donated over three-thousand dollars. that number is growing. gracie's two moms -- kimberly and michelle -- both say they're overwhelmed by the support. one is a firefighter -- the other an former emergency dispatcher. they say they're used to giving the support to others -- and never expected the favor to be returned. also --- a deputy treasurer or other intermediary has to talk to people in burfoot's office who are also witnesses in the case. burfoot can't have contact with them. burfoot is currently out on bond. start in may. new information in the selden arcade explosion. the norfolk fire marshal's office has released a final report. investigators say the explosion started outside of the building near an electrical power supply feed in the duct bank. that's the main power feed to the electrical switch room for the selden arcade. the report says an electrical failure triggered by a contractor working on power lines near the selden arcade led to the april 2015 explosion. that caused a a chain of events eventually resulting in what officials call a "catastrophic failure of the electrical

new information in a 2015 homicide in gates county. the sheriff's office says it has a second suspect in custody. geral bass is charged in the robbery and shooting death of calvin bell junior. bell's body was found in a field off of nc-37 in hobbsville back in june-- yards from his home. the sheriff's office says it is searching a gates county creek for two weapons used in this homicide. 29-year-old aaron holland was previously arrested in bell's death. newport news police are looking for the two men who robbed a pizza hut restaurant. this is surveillance video from the crime

suspects came in to the warwick boulevard restaurant with guns. one of them made a worker open the register. the men ran out with the stolen cash. no customers were inside at the time of the robbery. no one was hurt. virginia beach police are working to track down the suspect in a business burglary. detectives sent us this surveillance video today. the crime actually happened in november on south kellam road. you can see a man throw something through the glass door of a law firm to break it. then he crawled in and walked around. anything was taken. the york-poquoson sheriff's office is looking for this man. investigators say he he used a skimmed credit card number to purchase $175 dollars worth of merchandise earlier this month at the walgreens on george washington memorial hwy. if you have information about any of these crimes --- call the crime line. new developments in the case of the so called affluenza teen. the big update in our next half hour. tragedy in chesapeake. 6 people are dead after a murder suicide. 10 on your side's brandi cummings

community of chesapeake. six people are dead after a murder- suicide. 10 on your side has learned cameron dooley shot and killed his grandmother doris, father todd who is a retired chesapeake police officer , mother lori, brother landon and sister brooke --- before killing himself. this all started around 3:30 yesterday afternoon when police say officers conducted a welfare check on wildwood road and found landon dooley dead. detectives say an investigation led them to a home on north george washington highway and wintergreen drive around 7 p.m. there was a standoff for several hours. when officers went inside the house around 2 a-m: they found suspect cameron dooley and the four other members of his family dead. this shooting happened in the deep creek section of chesapeake. that is a tight-knit community. we know many of you are talking about the tragic events. it was also the topic of the minds of many people who frequent a local business.

into a house. these are pictures from the scene this morning on chestnut avenue. investigators say the driver lost control on the i-664 off ramp around 2 a-m, crossed the median and crashed into the home. no one was hurt. police arrested the driver --- 22-year-old joshua killingsworth. a norfolk high school went under a brief lockdown today. police say some kids overheard someone talking about a bomb at booker t washington high school. the school went on lockdown during a sweep of the school. no suspicious devices were found. senator time kaine introduced a new bill gun lawsuits. currently gun makers are protected by law against civil liability. the proposed bill would lift that shield. kaine says the government doesn't protect other manufactuerers of other products and should not protect gun makers either. that said, he admits

how such a law would work he says would ultimately be for the courts to decide. hypothetically, it would allow someone to sue for a gun defect, such as a safety that did not work. we're on your side with a 10 time saver traffic alert. elizabeth river tunnels plans to shut down the midtown tunnel in both directions for the weekend. it's so crews can safely remove the elizabeth river trail pedestrian bridge that goes over u-s 58 in norfolk. e-r-c and v-dot will close the midtown tunnel tomorrow night starting at 8:00. the tunnel is expected to reopen monday morning at five. you can use the downtown tunnel as an alternative to get between portsmouth and norfolk. a local coast guard cutter is back home after a 56 day eastern pacific patrol. the portsmouth-based cutter northland returned today. during the patrol --- the crew seized more than

the world health organization says the zika virus is quote "spreading explosively." the group will convene an emergency committee meeting monday . next week's meeting will examine whether the zika outbreak should be classified as an international health emergency. the c-d-c says the mosquito-borne virus is now in more than 20 countries --- mostly in central and south america. there is one case reported in virginia. health officials suspect that zika is linked to a wave of birth defects in brazil in which babies have small heads. who predicts there could be as many as four million cases of zika over the next year. virginia beach based operation blessing is working to help combat the zika virus outbreak overseas. it has purchased more than 1,250 mosquito nets that are being distributed by teams of volunteers to pregnant women in el salvador. it is also helping provide funding for mosquito fumigation efforts. the charity is planning additional help.

more than 100 people have become ill. it appeared to happen at the theater restaurant during two performances last week. the stomach bug is highly contagious. a texas teen who spent weeks on the run in mexico -- is back in the u-s. ethan couch -- the so-called "affluenza" teen --was taken into custody at dallas fort-worth airport around noon. he was sent back by mexican authorities earlier today - after dropping his appeal against deportation on wednesday. couch and his mother tonya were the subject of an international manhunt last month -- after he missed a mandatory meeting with his probation officer. couch was on probation after kiling four people in a drunk driving crash. three more protesters occupying a federal wildlife refugee in oregon are in police custody. the three turned themselves in wednesday night at a checkpoint outside the refuge. over two days --- 11 members of the group that has occupied the malheur national wildlife refuge have been arrested. an occupier says seven people remain

the car was engulfed in flames. its owner lying just a few feet away. the chief ran to the man and dragged him away from the fire. firefighters say ammunition inside the car was exploding as paramedics worked on the driver.
