the student got the virus in december while on a trip to central america. she went on to say, the university believes there is no risk to the health of other students on campus. the infected student should recover. the zika virus is spread through mosquito bites, and is linked to birth defects in newborn babies. symptoms include a mild fever, skin rashes, and pink eye. meanwhile, the world health organization held an emergency meeting earlier today about the zika outbreak. it warns there could be as many as four- million new zika infections this year alone. there is no treatment for it. an official talked about strategy to battle the outbreak. today is february first, and that mean it is the start of black history month. in colonial williamsburg, the decendants of thomas jefferson and sally hemmings joined reverend jesse jackson, representative bobby scott, and the family of civil rights pioneer rosa parks, for a bell ringing ceremony. this was at the historic first baptist church. the church's bell is newly resotred and this is the first time it has rang since it was repaired. the ceremony kicks off the 240th year for the congregation. new at midday-- the york-poqouson sheriffs office is looking for this man who they say robbed a gas station. this happened at the exxon mobil on big bethel road near hampton highway around 6:30 saturday office says the man showed the clerk a gun and demanded cash. it is not known if he got a way with any money, but he ran away from the scene. the man wore a surgical mask and all black clothes. if you saw him, or know

remember, you don't have to give your name when reporting a crime. norfolk police need your help to find whoever sent three people to the hospital during a drive-by shooting over the weekend. one of the victims is just 13-years-old. it happened around 3:30 yesterday afternoon near widgeon road and partridge street. that's just a few blocks behind norview high school. paramedics took that 13-year-old, a 16- year-old, and 20-year-old, to the hospital. police say all three victims should recover. officers say a man, driving a blue s-u-v, fired several shots at a basketball court. neighbors tell us the court was crowded with people playing in the warm weather no super c23 5:34 - my first instinct was like to see if my brother was out there because i knew he was going to play basketball. c25 10:43 - after the shooting stopped, we came out and then we looked on the court and everybody was flying off.

just three points. that is well within the poll's margain of error. all of the candidates did campaigning yesterday to get the crowds in their favor. and later tonight, new technology for counting votes will be put to the test. a new cell phone app from microsoft will be used to count the results from precincts in iowa. the app is designed to cut down on human error and speed up the reporting process. both democrats and republicans are expressing strong confidence in the app. the precincts will download the app on a smartphone, and log in to a secure system. freck says: "when they have the results, the precinct chair will pick up their phone get authenticated by entering some information and it checks to make sure they're the right people, provides them with a pin number. once they're authenticated they just enter those results, literally just tapping in simple numbers into the interface. and that gets submitted then it's sent into the central database that the headquarters gets a chance to look at." the new "caucus reporting app" will replace the old-school system of calling-in results by phone.

a police dog is dead after a suspect stabbed him several times. this happened in wilkinsburg, pennsylvania, right outside of pittsburgh. officers tried to stop a father and son drinking under a gazebo, but the men hit the officers and ran away. minutes later, police caught up to the son, bruce kelly, and told him to stop. after he didn't listen, police tried to tase him, but kelly's thick coat stopped the prongs from getting into him. that's when officers released aren, the k- 9. kelly allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the dog several times. officers then

police tried to arrest members despite finicum's death protest leaders, there are still four people still refuge. five people are dead after getting caught in a house fire in michigan. this happened saturday night in novi, which is just outside of detroit. police say the victims were all in their 20's and 30's. neighbors are mourning their loss. julian says: it's a pretty shocking day here in novi, it's a quiet neighborhood, good people down the street there. it's not what we normally see here." julian says: "a lot of action, a lot of firefighters, ambulances, a lot of people come by to see what's going on. i think maybe to pay the respect, kind of you know tragedy brings people in a little bit." investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire. police in tennessee are trying to figure out who set two cars on fire outside a jewish center. this happened in chattanooga. investigators say they

may have been the motivation behind the attack. local police are talking to the f-b-i about the investgation. police are stepping up patrols near other jewish centers and places of worship. u-s immigration and customs officials say two dozen members of one of mexico's biggest drug-trafficking cartels have been arrested in arizona. agents arrested the alleged-drug traffickers during an operation friday. the agents confiscated assault weapons and hundreds of pounds of narcotics. all of the people arrested are accused of being in the sinaloa cartel. that's the same cartel run by notorius drug lord joaquin guzman, better known as el chapo. the people arrested are now in the custody of mexican authorities. traffic was at a standstill for several hours near the california-nevada border after 29 cars and trucks were involved in a pile-up. the california highway patrol says winter weather caused 25 vehicles and four semi-trucks to

super doppler 10 forecast hundreds of plumbers faucets in the homes of flint residents. about 300 plumbers spread out around the city to start installing water filters. residents have been depending on water bottles since the city switched it's water system, which caused lead to get into the lines, contaminating tap water. homeowners say they are very grateful for the repairs and the plumbers say they are more than happy to help.
