we worked tonight to find out more about the student who contracted that virus. the student we spoke to said they are aware but not concerned. >> i am definitely thinking about it. >> and is now a growing health concern. heightened awareness on the college of william and mary campus after this alert was released friday and said that the student contracted the virus when traveling to central america during the school's winter break sometime between mid-december and mid-january. >> i think someone gets concerned about when they get an e-mail about a virus from another country. >> officials tried to ease fears. >> we are trying to monitor it, but our own conversations with the cdc show that there are no health risks. >> school officials say that the student told about the diagnosis friday. they say the student is not

they will not give any information about why the student was in central america, or who else may have been there. >> i will not give any particulars, other than what we've said to the campus community. >> once a person gets sick with the zika virus, the most common symptoms are rational mccain, and conjunctivitis. -- our rash, pain, and conjunctivitis. there is no vaccine. >> life is continuing normally for me. >> i have not seen any outbreak in the immunity or second e-mail, so i'm not that worried. tonight are stressing that there is no health risk on campus. they say they will continue to regarding any trouble

nicole: thank you. the cdc says the most common symptoms of zika virus are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis or pink. there are growing concerns that the current virus could cause birth defects in babies who is birth mothers got infected while pregnant. tom: nbc nightly news will have more on today's developments with the zika virus, and check out wavy.com for more, including tips on protecting yourself when mosquito season rolls around. nicole: right now the tightknit community and deep creek is preparing to gather for a memorial service. last week 26-year-old cameron julie shot and killed five family members before killing himself. hundreds of people are expected at the memorial. the service will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. tonight.

the big question, who is willing to take a chance on someone with a criminal background? >> they need help to find it, but it turns out there are several area programs that helps released inmates find work. we found a local company where about a third of the workforce has a criminal background. released felons create their own opportunities, and as we discovered in putting together this story, some cannot escape the grip of the criminal demons. >> some days it is tough for me to look in the mirror, because i think about my past. >> he has been in trouble with the law several times over the past decade, and ended up doing three years in prison for grand theft auto. he got out in 2012. >> it was tough finding a job. there was a long line of people waiting to get the jobs that were available. a lot of people that were applying for them did not get convictions. >> but he was determined to

programs such as step up, and nelson community college helped him to get his life back in order. >> i know i wanted to change my life. >> that was two weeks ago. he enrolled in school, filed work refurbishing homes, and told us he was proud to be paying taxes, no longer liability to the community. he was living a life he could only dream of while he was inside. he was going to be a shining example of how i released felon can turn his life around. then the story turned around. then thehe was back in jail, convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon. >> all they have to do is reach out. >> madonna is a supervisor with the prisoner reentry program.

nothing too terribly vague, but point. it is not likely to be all that much. it is oriented from northeast to southwest, and there is not much at the southwest end of things. this has yet to move on through. here's a look at our when speed and direction. -- wind speed and direction. it has everything to do with where the rainfall is, and cooler air moving in. it will be a big-time cooling tomorrow. a south southwest wind, and a north wind in richmond. that means that that's cool front is dropping in. it has some rainfall with it. we can see those cooler temperatures not all that much later. it is likely to be closer to 8:00. the 10:00 p.m. in the evening, not hugely dropping out. here's where things are by 7:00

rain temperatures -- and temperatures drop. 53 for the high temperature tomorrow. now we move into wednesday. a couple of stray showers. it will not be a washout whatsoever for the day on wednesday. then we will be up to 72. some cooler air is dropping and with a chance of some rainfall by wednesday evening. wednesday evening, wednesday night, we could get a rumble of thunder out of that as it moves through. on the longer range, we're going to see more rainfall through the area throughout the outer banks coming up late at night thursday night. by friday it is quiet, saturday it is quite, and cool. by monday we will start to see more rainfall move out into the region. that is what is going on in the

university of virginia is now back to number nine thanks to a run ofaway win. not in the top 25, the duke blue devils. they have struggled, losing four of the last five games. it is the first time they have been on right since the 2007, 2008 season. but there is an upside with a coach -- they go to georgia tech tomorrow. more college basketball, north carolina head still will, the tar heels will unbeaten -- are still unbeaten. tom: and a brief flirtation with spring. don: a nice warm day. it was 75 degrees. some rainfall out there for the evening and early overnight hours and then it gets much cooler tomorrow. about 22 degrees cooler for tomorrow.

nicole: back at 10:00 breaking news. tonight the voting begins in iowa as the nation takes its first step towards electing a new president. after months of campaigning, tens of millions spent, the final polls show just how close it is on both sides. can trump close the deal, or will cruz take down the front-runner? and can marco rubio surprise with a strong showing? and for hillary clinton, can she fight off a surging bernie sanders, or will 2008 repeat itself in another devastating loss? it's all about turnout, a ground game and a wild sprint to the dramatic finish tonight.
