kelly talked to his family about their loss. lucas' cousin says she thought it was all a bad dream when she heard what happened. she didn't believe it until she came here to the hospital. she shared these photos of lucas with us. a cub scout, who lived in north carolina. police say a ford pick up truck collided with the minivan lucas was in -- at the intersection of west 27th street and llewellyn around 5:00 yesterday evening. the crash threw lucas and his friend from the van. a sister identified lucas' friend as keion mcclenny -- and shared a photo of him recovering at chkd. he doesn't know yet that lucas passed away. lucas' cousin says he was a loving child with a big personality. him, he was like, 'i'm so glad that you're here. i love you. i miss you,' and now i can't even hear that. 4825 it

the family has put together a fundraising web site to help with bills. we will be putting that up on our web site. at 5 -- you'll hear from the family of the little boy recovering here in the hospital. live in norfolk, erin kelly, 10 on your side. students in northampton county had a short school day, today - because of a bomb threat. 10 on your side's deanna northampton county. this? according to the suprintendent and sheriff - someone called in the threat to school offices just before10-am. they did not specify a school - and said the alleged bomb would go off in 40 minutes. so - because they couldnt pinpoint a school - all three buildings were evacuated. this is video we got of the dogs outside northampton county high

the students were evacuated shortly after 10am. they waited outside for quite some time while deputies and school staff walked through the schools to look for any threats. none was found - but the sheriff wanted dogs to do a second sweep. howver, there are no bomb sniffing dogs on the eastern shore so they had to be called in from virginia beach and state police in chesapeake. at that point - they decided to send all the kids home because waiting for the dogs to arrive would have meant they were outside for too long. around 2:30 this afternoon - they gave the all clear. there was another, similar bomb threat phoned in today to accomack county schools. this one was school specific, but it was a teacher work day and no students were in the building. dogs from maryland helped sweep that facility, adn the teachers were allowed to go back to

came from the same person. live in northampton county, i'm dl 10 on your side. for the first time, we're hearing from the mother of a teenager allegedly murdered by a virginia tech student. tammy weeks is nicole lovell's mother. she talked to the media at a news conference in blacksburg today. nicole's body was found in surry county friday. virginia tech freshman david eisenhauer is charged in her murder. another tech freshman, natalie keepers is charged as an accomplice. both are in jail without bond. at the news conference, lovell's mother was extremely emotional. she said her daughter was the strongest person she knew, constantly beating the odds despite being very ill. tammy weeks, nicole lovell's mother: 14;02;07 goes off stage 14;02;22;14 police say lovell was stabbed to death on the

(ad lib about what we've seen) last month we reported that test results showed drinking water at fentress exceeded epa provisional health advisory levels for pfcs. the chemical is used in fire fighting foam on base. the navy says the chemical is not regulated by the epa, but they decided to play it safe and give water bottles for on-base personnel. working with the city of chesapeake, a free water filling station has been set up for residents living near fentress who have concerns about their private well water used for drinking and cooking. tonight, concerned chesapeake residents will be able to learn

water. representatives from the navy, epa, city of chesapeake, department of health and office of environmental quality will be here tonight. we'll let you hear from residents in our full story tonight on wavy news 10 at 11. live in chesapeake brandi cummings 10 on your side. three people went to the hospital after a crash in chesapeake. these are pictures from the scene. police say a man was driving southbound on battlefield boulevard near galbrush road. he started to have a medical emergency and that caused him to cross into on coming traffic and hit two other cars. the three drivers were all hurt, but expected to recover. virginia beach police are investigating a sexting scandal involving high school students. according to a search warrant, a teacher at ocean lakes discovered

the documents reveal that a 17 year old student admitted to having an app on his iphone disguised as a calculator that stored multiple nude photos of at least eight female students. he also admitted to distributing those photos without the young women's consent. so far no charges have been filed. four high school wrestlers in oklahoma have been charged with sexually assaulting two other wrestlers on a bus. the district attorney says the assaults happened last month after the team came back to their school after a wrestling tournament. the students are accused of assaulting a 12-year-old and a 16-year-old, both were members of the team. the alleged assaults were caught on camera. once the students left the bus, the 12- year-old was allegedly sexually assaulted again. the district attorney says this was not a typical case of hazing. (s/ greg mashburn / district attorney:13) "in this case, a significant line was crossed, it went way further into more of an assault than it was

anything like that," one of the accused wrestlers is 18 and will be charged as an adult. the wrestling coach who was responsible for supervising the teens was fired as soon as officials heard about the crime - a second coach resigned monday. 10 on your side has learned newport news shipbuilding is having their next round of layoffs. the shipyard is cutting 738 workers. because of the number of people being laid off, the shipyard is required to give a 60 day notice for employees. those employees will continue to work for the next 60 days before the layoffs 10 at 4: coming up at 4:30, it has been more than three months since a man went missing. his family speaks only to 10 on your side about their efforts to find him. also still to come -- a look at the deals you need to look out for this month. we'll tell you what items will likely have the best prices. but first, turning a tragedy into a positive. 10 on your side's lex gray gives us a look at a bike.

a grieving father wants to make sure every child a grieving father wants to make sure every child in dare county has a helmet. you may remember back in november -- when a middle school girl named bri blumenthal died, after a car hit her while she was riding her bike. two months later -- dare county schools and bri's dad are trying to make sure her legacy lives on, by keeping other kids safe. 10 on your side's lex gray has more on what they're doing. lex. anita and stephanie -- bri's dad says he can easily see the effect her death had on this

are working to change kids' mindset about wearing their helmets, and keeping them on even when the adults aren't looking. live in dare county, lex gray, 10 on your side. inmates escape jail in california is out of custody. prosecutors say they won't charge the 44-year-old in the case. she worked at the orange county jail as an english teacher. investigators alleged she gave the inmates a google earth map that showed an aerial view of the jail, and they used it to plan their escape. all three men are back in here this year, but it's still good to have the idea spring will be here soon. in groundhog day tradition, punxatawny phil made his way out of his hole in pennsylvania today. and he did not see his shadow. according to legend, that means spring will come early this year. this is only the 18th time since the tradition started phil didn't see his shadow. but should you be ready for the beach by the end of february?

slater is working on for 5. it's a story you'll see only on 10. it's been almost three months since a man disappeared from suffolk. police tell us 30 year old quantez russell's car was located in newport news the night he was last seen. but his whereabouts remain a mystery...and police have few leads. 10 on your side's liz palka joins us now after sitting down for an exclusive interview with the wanted to talk with us because they need answers. it has been an agonizing three months and they want to bring him home. quantez left suffolk saying he was heading toward newport news to hang out on november 11th. investigators tell me his car showed up that night at a downtown newport news gas station. they aren't releasing the specific area. however, they have reason to

"c8 claudine ellis/water drive organizer 19:37:24 we need a tractor trailer probably to get that water in tehre and of course theose trucks have to have so much tonage or weight so we can't just have any vehicle taking it up there :35 they're hoping someone with a tractor trailer will come forward in the next couple of weeks. i'll have more on local groups who are donating and how you can get involved coming up at 5:30. meanwhile, the f-b-i is joining the investigation into the contaminated drinking water in flint. the water became the source for a switch from the detroit river to the flint river in 20-14. officials made the move while the city was under financial management by the state. people started complaining about the smell and taste of the water shortly after the switch, but residents say no one in the state goverment would listen to them. a man is dead and another is hurt after a train and truck crashed into each other in roanoke county. this happened monday afternoon. the truck was on fire when emergency crews got to the scene. a 56-year-old man from west virginia was riding in the truck. he died at the scene.

also riding in the truck. he is being treated at robbed a pizza delivery driver. it happened around 1:30 this morning on avondale road, near glenwood drive. police say two suspeccts went up to the chanello's driver with a weapon. they got away with some cash and pizza. nobody was hurt. if you saw what happened, or know anything about this, call crime line at 1- 888-lock-u-up. you can get a reward if your tip leads to an arrest. suffolk police arrested a man they say robbed a pharmacy using a gun. this is 47-year-old lawrence claar. police say he went into the rite aid on north main street last month and showed a gun to the pharmacy technician. he got away with some prescription drugs. nobody was hurt. claar is in the western tidewater regional jail with no bond. here is some incredible video of a clerk fighting off a robber. this happened at a convienence store in florida last week. you can see the suspect walk in to the store, go up to the counter, and tell the clerk to empty the register into a plastic bag.

a veteran who did several tours in iraq. he managed to get the gun away from the supect, who the gun was an airsoft pistol. police are still trying to find the suspect. now video of the coast guard in action near cape hatteras. you can see them pulling a woman from a cruise ship up into their chopper. the coast guard says the 61 year-old woman slipped and became unconsious while aboard the norwegian breakaway cruise ship. they flew her to sentara norfolk general hospital. she is doing fine. the impending demolition of the the m-star motel is delayed yet again. you may remember the building was destroyed by fire last year. the city told the owner the building needs to be building down completely. the owners and city staff will continue to meet. we should have a better understanding of when the demolition will happen later this month. norfolk residents, there

we're on your side, looking out for your health. stress in young adults. a new study shows those who get stressed out more easily at a young age, could develop high blood pressure later in life. the study followed more than one million 18-year-old men. scientists monitored their mental and physical health while they were in the military. the men who got stressed out more easily were 40 percent more likely to have high blood pressure by the time they reached middle age.

hampton police say a rise in funny money is no laughing matter. over the past few months they have seen the bogus bills popping up all over the city. 10 on your side's jason marks spoke with detectives and jason they say this has beeome a big problem. a problem because at first glance it is very hard to tell a fake bill from the real one. it's only after you really take a look you to show us the counterfeit money they've been seeing in the city. they say in

they are looking to identify spent 7 one hundred dollar bills in the wal mart on cunningham drrive. the man actually went to the store twice in the same day. detectives say they have also come across cases where people are selling shoes and game systems on craigslist and the buyer pays them in fake money. we're told in this case technology is helping the people making the fake money plus they can find similar paper in local stores. "01=1:11:34 "where they have the lined or linen paper which a lot of we get you can see that kind of paper is similara to what a us dollar would be is being sold and they are talking the money and printing them from the jet printers and these high tech printing machines"" the detective says a lot times the suspects are working in groups and the fake money leads to more seriuos crimes like murder. coming up tonight at 6-- hampton police tell us how you can proctect

from becoming a victim. jason marks 10 on your side. an elderly couple got out of their home just before it exploded. it happened this morning in new york, just outside of rochester. 79-year-old eugene upshall crashed his car into the home's gas meter, and that caused a gas leak. when he heard the hissing, he immediately ran into the house to grab his wife, louise. they went to a neighbors house to call 9-1-1, and while they were there, the house exploded. it was so big, it set another house on fire. the couple's son is thankful his parents are alive. kerry upshaw/son of eugene and louise upshaw :27 from 390 i could see the smoke and i knew the house was gone. that's material. my mom and dad is still here and that's what matters." nobody was hurt in the explosion or the fire. the eighth u-s army has a new commander. major general thomas vandal took the right of command from lieutenant general bernard champoux in seoul earlier

(s/ anthony costello/who :31) "zika virus is in a (s/ anthony costello/who :31) "zika virus is in a family of viruses, which includes dengue fever, which is a well known virus that has epidemics all over the world. we've been working on a vaccine for dengue for 15 years and we still don't have a vaccine. the w-h-o declared the zika spread a health emergency around the world yesterday. it predicts more than four-million people will get the virus this year. a train carrying liquid propane went off the tracks and caught on fire. this happened monday night in ohio, outside of akron. hazmat crews and as many as 15 fire departments worked together to put the fire out. fire officials say 500 people who lived by the fire were asked to evacuate, but they are now back in their homes. the e-p-a is investigating. and a big fire destroyed a histroic building in downtown fresno. the fire happened around five yesterday afternoon
