the commonwealth attorney's office got the case and after looking at the physical evidence and talking to witnesses decided dejesus killed covington in self defense. today the charge against her was dropped. dejesus was already out on bond. prosecutors say they can bring the charge of court and they feel like she got away with murder. now to more breaking news - this time in hampton. police are investigating a suspicious package on towne center way.

daallo airlines plane. it was headed from mogadishu to djibouti on the horn of africa. we have more information about an overnight fire in norfolk. investigators were able to confirm that the home was vacant at the time, and under renovation. :00 - :04 nats of fire that's video a viewer posted to our facebook page this morning. you can see the flames shooting from this home on malboro avenue, off kimball terrace. investigators say they are still trying to figure out what caused this. it started around 2:00 this morning, and no one was hurt fighting the fire. fire investigators are looking for the cause of this fire in cheaspeake. we first brought this to you as breaking news last night at 11:00. two people living inside this home on laurel avenue off indian river road got out safely, but the home has severe damage. bad news for hundreds of workers in hampton roards.

got laid off. this is part of cuts we've been telling you about for months. they first began back in september. the president of newport news shipbuilding says this is all because of a lack of work. in addition to the 738 workers who got pink slips today, the company says even more lay offs are coming later this year. however right now, the shipyard does not know how many people those cuts could affect. just last week we told you the navy is expediting repairs on three ships to try and give the struggling shipyards in hampton roads more work. we are not sure how that will impact future layoffs in the area. today the city of norfolk met with the u-s army corps of engineers to help solve flooding in norfolk. this is new video of this morning's meeting. city leaders are teaming up with the group for a flood risk management study. norfol is one of the most flood-prone cities in the country. the flood risk study will

help reduce flooding. water testing around fentress air field in chesapeake starts today. the city will check the well water after recent testing found high levels of chemicals called p-f-cs. the navy has been giving bottled water to people working there. military officials told us, that was just a precaution. they say the water is safe based on federal and state standards. but neighbors told us, it doesn't make them feel better. 10 on your side was there last night as more than 150 attended a meeting to learn more about the contaminated water and the planned testing. one health expert told us the water is safe to drink. 2 supers sot - dr. nancy evidence that indicates on a confirmed basis that drinking the water is associated with specific problems. 1:40:00 butt sot - holly meeks, chesapeake resident - clip 40 1:49:16 i makes me a little nervous but they're obviously doing what they can to be proactive about it. 1:49:22 so far, crews have only tested the water on fentress field property.

in about 15 minutes, a bail hearing is expected to begin for one of the suspects facing charges in nicole lovell's death. 19-year-old natalie keepers could find out today if she gets to leave jail. police say the virginia tech student faces charges for improperly disposing of a body and accessory before the fact. her classmate, 18-year-old david eisenhauer, faces charges in lovell's kidnapping and murder. he has not had a bail hearing, and also has not entered a plea. however according to an arrest warrant, eisenhauer told police "the truth would set him

got to work. so this could have been much worse. this fire could once again raise questions about safety in the garment industry. in 20-13, more than one-thousand people died when a building collapsed in another part of bangladesh. the building was in the fashion district, and is the country's worst industrial disaster. the incident sparked an international outcry for greater safety standards. new at midday, a 14-year-old boy in california is being hailed a hero. he put his life at risk to help a family get out of their burning home. take a look at the intense flames. this is from the helmet of a sacramento firefighter. 14-year-old christian beecher says he was sitting on his porch when he saw the fire. christian got five family members out of the home, including a girl with special needs. then christian hopped a fence and helped an elderly woman next door who didn't even realize there was a fire going on. :55 - 1:07 "and the house was in some danger, the way the fire was spreading was on
