side's liz kilmer witnessed an emotional remembrance for a young life. dozens of loved ones came out to lucas' elementary school tonight to pray, light candles and release balloons in his memory. we had the chance to learn more about the special little boy he was. before his death - we're told he had battled cancer - yet always remained strong, cheerful and adventurous. c7 minister 01:07:56 "for all this family lord i pray for strength" holding one another in prayer, and song .. minnie says her grandson was kind and affectionate. he loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and gardening. she says - at just two years old - he was diagnosed with skin cancer. but --lucas was a fighter. now, in his name, loved ones are trying to be strong, too. c27 01:20:49 "this is going to be something that is going to take a lot of help from everybody and this community has done it." the vigil had to be moved inside of lucas' elementary school... because of heavy rain. but when it came time to release the balloons... the showers, for just that brief moment, stopped. lucas' mother and his friend were also hurt in the crash - after a pick-up truck drove into their minivan. his friend was released from the hospital yesterday. his mother was at tonight's vigil - understandably - too distraught to talk. we're told police continue to investigate the crash. back to you. "i'm innocent." that's the message a robbery and sexual assault suspect had to share tonight. 63-year-old raymond ellis faces charges in virginia beach -- for crimes police say he committed last month. 10 on your side's liz palka spoke with him in jail. liz, how does he explain it? nicole - he said he doesn't know anything about the crimes. both which involved a suspect being armed with a knife. police can't release evidence they have on him. so we have worked to one time i'm not going to take no time because i didn't do it. raymond ellis spends his first full day in connection with two crimes on rosemont victims were threatened with

do you ever keep knives with you? i have a pocket knife. the incidents happened next door to each other. police say, january 16th - a woman left four seasons chinese restaurant. a man with a knife approached and tried to forced her into her car. she screamed for help and he fled. c1 17:42:16 - no. no. not at all. do you not remember that? i didn't do that. i can't remember i didn't do it. police believe the same suspect approached a man outside this wawa ten days later. he asked for a ride. once in the vehicle - he pulled out a knife, abducted, robbed, and sexually assaulted the man. c1 17:45:39 - i wasn't there. i can't say it did. i can't say it didn't. but i don't know. i'm just saying, it wasn't me. ellis only lives about four or five blocks from the restaurant and gas station. restaurant employees didn't

someone who hangs around. he also hasn't lived in virginia beach very long. he admitted to us he spent 32 years in prison after a rape conviction in pennsylvania. we found it on the virginia sex offender registry, too. he was released in june...and finds himself behind bars again. c1 17:46:22 - don't pick me because i just come out of prison. i did speak with ellis' roommate. we talked at great length about the situation and he told me he didn't know of any problems. he did say ellis would often leave at night...saying he was going on walks. and he was aware he carried a pocketknife. ellis tells me his first court appearance is tomorrow. i'm liz palka, 10 on your side. breaking news coming in from chesterfield. a police officer faces murder charges tonight. our sister station reports, off-duty officer, david cobb, shot and killed an 18- year-old in october. they say cobb got into an argument with paterson brown junior --

cobb's vehicle. cobb was indicted for second degree murder and a gun charge. virginia beach police are still looking for a man they consider armed and dangerous. family says 20-year-old devante williams shot his mother today. police went to his home on kitimal drive near dam with a virginia license plate that reads "prosper." family says the mother is doing better tonight. new tonight from norfolk. two men no longer face charges for a 20-14 new year's day murder. a jury found steven carter jones the third not guilty of seven counts -- including murder. the judge also dismissed charges against garrick williams. they were both suspects in a deadly double shooting on berkley avenue. new tonight after a year of investigating -- maryland state police have charged a truck driver for a deadly crash on the eastern shore. january of 20-15 -- four members of an accomack county family, a boyfriend and an unborn baby died. troopers served 29-year-old yvenet

summonses for 11 traffic violations. they say her vehicle had inoperable brakes, and she had been on duty 70 hours over the course of 8 days. the crash happened in wye mills maryland while the family was headed to a baby shower. new tonight. the feds will give one-million dollars in oyster restoration money to virginia, even though it was supposed to go to maryland. the money was set aside to build new oyster reefs on the eastern shore, but maryland asked to delay an ongoing project. as a result, the army corps of engineers will pass the funds to norfolk's district for bay restoration. all new tonight. virginia national guard members -- may be allowed to carry guns on duty. the house passed the bill today -- which applies to members with concealed carry permits. virginia beach delegate and veteran scott taylor proposed the bill. it's in response to the deadly shooting at military installations in chattanooga last year. the bill now heads to the senate. the group trying to recall norfolk city treasurer anthony burfoot is working to get the word out.

committee held an interest meeting at pretlow library tonight. burfoot faces federal corruption charges -- which activists say makes him unable to do his job. c0043 0;17;38 we want his resignation we'll take none less than a leave of absence until his federal case is adjudicated. the group needs to gather more than 43- hundred signatures -- before filing its petition with the court. in that case the judge may decide whether to hold a recall trial. the democrats who hope to win the white house are debating tonight. hillary clinton and vermont senator bernie sanders are in new hampshire -- five days before the presidential primary. sanders is ahead with democratic voters, according to a new n-b-c/wall street journal/marist poll. his lead is essentially unchanged from last week -- 58-percent to 38-percent. on the republican side -- donald trump is holding a wide lead with republican voters ahead of next week's primary. that's according to a new

in second is florida senator marco rubio, with texas senator ted cruz in third. the music industry has lost another legend. maurice white, the former leader of earth, wind & fire, has died. september nats white founded the soul-funk band in the late 19-60's . they have so many hits-- "shining star", and "boogie wonderland". the group is in the rock and roll hall of fame-- and will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the grammys next week. maurice white was diagnosed with parkinson's disease in the 19-90's, and stopped touring with the band. he was 74 years old. we also learned a legendary b-m-x athlete has died. investigators found dave mirra dead in greenville, north carolina today. our sister station reports, the 41-year- old was in a truck, and he had been visiting friends beforehand. they say

a man has survived an incredible accident. it
