in lower manhattan. the crane's boom landed on top of several parked cars -- killing someone inside. the collapse also sparked a gas leak - but crews were able to shut off gas to buildings in the area. we're learning more about two new york city police officers who were shot a new york housing project when they were shot and wounded. both officers are in stable now. one was shot in the face -- the other shot in the chest. police say the officers came across two people in a stairwell -- when one of them pulled a gun and officers. the shooter took off -- but officers found him apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound. a second suspect is in custody. in chicago -- new information in a police investigating where six people were found dead. the bodies were found yesterday after a the people had not shown up for work for several days. police say all of the victims appear to be from the same family. we just learned a short time ago -- according to

office -- five of the victims were stabbed to death. a sixth person died from multiple gunshot wounds. investigators say there were no signs of forced entry. the case is being treated as a homicide. all new. one of the first u-s astronauts has died. edgar mitchell was part of the apollo 14 mission. he was the sixth man to walk on the moon. mitchell died in south florida last night after a short illness. his passing coincides with the 45th anniversary of his mission from january 31st to february 9th in 19-71. he and alan shepard helped nasa recover apollo 13's aborted and near fatal mission. he was 85. wiki-leaks founder julian assange has been "arbitrarily detained." that's according to a united nations panel. assange has been holed up in the ecuadorian embassy in london for more than three years. he's wanted in sweden on sex assault charges. but he's afraid of being extradited to the u-s for leaking documents about the iraq war. assange's attorney says

volkswagen is still trying to figure out how damaging its diesel emissions scandal will be for investors. the german automaker is pushing back its annual earnings report - and its annual shareholder meeting. volkswagen has admitted to installing software in some of its diesel-powered cars that alters the performance of engines when tested for emissions. it made the vehicles appear cleaner than they were. volkswagen has apologized -- and suspended nine managers. the company is being sued by u-s authorities over the scandal. it could cost the company 18 billion dollars in fines. mixed news coming out of the latest jobs report. the unemployment rate dropped to four point nine percent -- the lowest level since 20-08. the u-s economy added 151-thousand jobs in january - that's more than economist projected. president obama says it's a testament to workers an businesses being resilient and "sticking to it." stay with us... wavy news 10 at 6 is next. a deadly crash-- two young lives lost but the woman accused-- off the hook for now. it's a story that's not quite over-- but had us asking questions about why the change of heart. this is a story that got a lot of attention when it happened in september. a woman-- lead police on a chase-- crashing the girls inside. 8 year old destiny wilson and 5 year old shawnta wilson lost their lives in the crash just off 2-64 in portsmouth. but charges against the driver-- were suddenly pulled this week. in a series of crimes this serious-- how did it happen? 10 on your side's chris horne is in portsmouth with more. chris? the new prosecutor in the case has withdrawn the original charges against the woman, so the
